Review Icon sdshack reviewed Patron in Tequila:
Have to agree with most of the posters. This is good 100% agave tequila, but overpriced unless you get it on a good sale. This tequila is ok for sipping, but you will pay for it. I rate it 4 stars for taste at at 2 star price, so it nets out at 3 stars. If you want tequila for mixing margaritas, save your money and buy Sauza blanco.

The white label is a great value bourbon. It's smooth enough for sipping, and mixes great. 4 stars for taste and cost. I think it is the best whiskey for the money. The upgrade in cost for the green or black label over the white is worth it if you can get the green or black on sale.

Not bad whiskey as some reviewers say. Jack is smooth enough for sipping, and is excellent for blended drinks. Jack is a blended whiskey and vastly better than the common Canadian blended whiskeys. But it is a lot more expensive. For me, I prefer Jim Beam Bourbon. It is cheaper then Jack, and just as good. Jack is a 4 star blended whiskey at a 5 star price, so it nets out at 3 stars. By contrast, Jim Beam is a 4 star bourbon at a 3 star price. This pushes Jim Beam over 4 stars.

Review Icon sdshack reviewed E & J Brandy in Brandy:
The E&J brandies are all on the sweet side. Some people like sweet brandies, but I think they taste like cough syrup. Don't waste you money on VS as it is really harsh, with poor flavor. E&J VSOP is a little better, but for the low end budget domestic brandies, Christian Bros VSOP is the best value.

Over priced and harsh. Not a good sipping bourbon at all. I can't understand why drinkers find this good. I think they see the fancy bottle on the top shelf and wax seal and think it's high quality. Do a blind taste test and you'll find cheaper mid shelf whiskies that are better. This is a 3-star whiskey at 5-star price. That rates only 2-stars. Any Jim Beam is superior to this for the money, and especially Jim Beam Black or Green label. Lately, this whiskey is being heavily marketed on TV. That should tell you something about how good it is. If it was a great as they claim, why spend millions to market it?

Review Icon sdshack reviewed Bowmore in Scotch:
I realize that the reviews on this section are for the 12yo and older scotches from Bowmore. But for the value conscious scotch drinker that wants to sample a full body Islay scotch for the first time, check out the Bowmore Legend.
This was a present to me from my in-laws over 5 years ago. It turned me on to the Islay single malts with their intense peat and smoke flavors. This is a blend of 7-9 year old single malt scotches from the famous Bowmore distillery. Very smooth, with strong peat and powerful smoke flavors. Great for sipping. You feel like you are smoking a fine cigar without actually lighting up. This is my favorite single malt scotch for the price!

Review Icon sdshack reviewed Cutty Sark in Scotch:
Very good mild blended scotch. By far my favorite budget scotch. Not as flavorful as Johnny Walker Black, but lower price. Vastly superior to JB, Dewars or Johnnie Walker Red which are all poor blended scotches for the money. Cutty is a great scotch to introduce new drinkers to.

A poor blended scotch that's not worth the money. The better value blended scotches rated here taste as good for less money, Cutty Sark is a good example. Spend a little more and buy Johnnie Walker Black on sale, or one of the better rated single malts like Glenlivet.

Review Icon sdshack reviewed Dewar's in Scotch:
Harsh, poor scotch, and definately not worth it's price. It reminds me of Johnnie Walker Red, and I wouldn't waste my money on JW Red... so what's that tell you about Dewar's?

Review Icon sdshack reviewed Glenlivet in Scotch:
I agree with most of the reviewers. A good starter scotch that is reasonable on a budget. This is well received by the new as well as experienced scotch drinkers. A mid-price single malt scotch that does not have too much smoke or peat flavor, but I feel it's a little harsh straight. If you love scotch, spend a little more for some of the higher rated single malts on this site and you will probably be happier. The 15yr Glenlivet is much smoother and more flavorful than this.
