I went to the store in downtown Des Moines. Dr Daniel Draayer seemed nice enough; he did a good examination and his prescription was right on - I can see great.

But - like the commenter who said the staff treat you well - until they get your money - is right on.

Rick is the employee that I worked with to order my bi focals; and everything was great - he was friendly and eager to please - until he got my bi focal wrong and I asked them to correct it.

When I ordered my glasses - He put a "rush" on it and I got them back in 2 days.

But when I told him the bifocal was too high (under my iris not my lower eye lid) his demeanor began to change. Immediately he got defensive and started bending the nose pieces to try to make it work. I told him it still seemed to high but I'd try it for a couple of days. The frames were now off centered, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt and assumed him being the "professional" at an eye care center, he'd know how to fix it when I went back.

Well - after 2 days I went back and said the bifocal was still not right he started bending the nose piece again. After several bends and I was still seeing out the top of the bifocal he said he'd reorder the lens and call me when it came in.

A side note - when I'd gone in to order bi focals I was looking at larger lens frames and saw this one that I purchased when he said they were "great for a bifocal" and "piece of cake". His response when I complained he'd gotten the line too high when he "eyed" (not measured for the bifocal - he marked on my lens with a magic marker which I assumed, as the "professional" he knew what he was doing. Wrong)...anyway his first response when I took them back to have the lens redone what "next time you need to choose a larger lens". Strike 1. Telling me his mistake was my fault.

Well I wondered if the "rush" service would still be in effect for this and as I thought - it took nearly a full week to get them back. I took them back on a Wednesday and he did not call for me to pick them up until the following Tuesday.

This time - the line was in a better place. I could actually see out of my glasses. But the frame was still bent from him mangling it with all his adjustments to avoid having to redo the lenses. So I asked him to correct it - again assuming since he was a "professional" at an eye care center that he'd know how to do that. Wrong. After almost half an hour and passing me to his co worker my frames were in terrible shape and now not just off center but completely crooked. So the co worker said she'd get a replacement frame and swap out the lenses and I'd have unbent frames.

Wrong.

I went in the next day (today) to pick them up and was greeted with used-to-be-my-best-friend-Rick telling me that he was going to "re style" me. No questions, no "I"m sorry we can't get the same frame" - just a rude in your face whether you like it or not we are "restyling" you.

When I questioned him on this he became defensive and argumentative. Ultimately I took my glasses and left thinking I might go to one of the other stores to have them fixed but after reading the horrible reviews for Whylie I"m thinking twice about that.

All he had to do was admit he was wrong and redo the lens to begin with when I first told him the line was too high. Instead he mangled my frames and treated me with such disrespect that I will most likely not ever use Whylie again....unless I get an apology from him and his boss and my current frames replaced, chances are I will simply choose to not patronize Whylie again and make sure I tell everyone I can that this is a terrible company and to stay far far away from them.

So yes - Whylie loves their customers - until you ask them to fix their mistakes.

I have my glasses with the new lenses and am hoping I can find someone to adjust them so they fit comfortably after this guy mangled them.

Great store! Just moved to Des Moines from Chicago. Store has some of the same brands you'd find at Nordstroms and cool stores in bigger cities. Great tailor too!

If you're in Des Moines stop by.

0 stars!! baileydon hit it right on. My husband had his eyes tested by doctor powell. It had been 3 yrs. since his last visit. He is supposed to go every two years for a regular exam and once a year for medical, as he is a diabetic. Several things made it hard for him to get an eye exam when needed. We have vision insurance and we pay a $5.00 copay. My husband's exam was rather short, and dr. powell charged him for the medical exam. My husband had to pay a $30.00 copay, and this upset him.He asked the girl at the reception desk for the corporate number. She replied that she couldn't give him that number. Like baileydon said she needs to wear something else. My husband made the comment to me when he came out that the receptionists top was cut way very low and not at all appropriate attire for her job. After my husband called one of the other whylie locations and told them what had happened, dr. powell called my husband, and told him that he always does a medical exam on diabetic patients. We both found it strange that if it was the medical exam why didn't dr. powell dialate my husband's eyes. Dr. powell said he doesn't dialate every patient, and that he could get in trouble for not preforming a medical exam on diabetics. I would say he should be in trouble for not doing the dialation. As I stated before it had been 3 years since my husband's last exam. I'm sure our insurance will not be happy that they paid for a medical exam without the dialation. I'm going to have my eyes tested in a couple of months and I can assure you that Whylies will not be getting any insurance money or my copay from us. Glad my husband decided when it found out that he had to pay the $30.00 that we went elsewhere to purchase his glasses.

Whylie Eye Care did an amazing job for us today! One of the young men we work with broke his glasses. The Store Manager drove to Pella to get him a new pair of frames then took it upon herself to drive to Indianola to fix his glasses personally. I cannot say enough about the Knoxville location of Whylie and the service they gave to us today! Thank you so much for your extra special care! AWESOME!!!!

000 stars You need to know how terrible Dr.Powell in Knoxville Iowa is. He is a very rude snot. I had my eyes checked there recentley and it only took him 15 minutes. He didn't do any tests. All he did was flip the glasses thing back and forth twice. He said can you see ok? That was it. Please do something about this. Your biggest mistake was when Dr Gould left. I will never go there again. I went to the other eye Dr. here in town 2 weeks later because I wanted to make sure everything was ok. It took 1 hour for him. And anoter thing please tell your girl at the front desk to put her boobs in her shirt. They were just about ready to pop out.

i've shopped at victoria secret for years. luckily there are several within the des moines, iowa area. however i refuse to shop at merle hay mall as the staff is not helpful and they come off as rude. i have money to spend and it would be more convenient to shop at this location. i take the time and spend the money on gas to be helped by the gals at valley west mall who seem to know what they are talking about and are overly helpful and sweet.
