I'm writing this review on behalf of my friend who is too kind to write a spiteful review of an organization that purports to help animals. This woman does not live in New Orleans, but visits frequently and rescues animals, trapping/neutering and spaying ferals on each visit. On three separate occasions, she has attempted to utilize SAF in her efforts, only to be turned away each time. Yesterday, she brought three kittens there on her way to the airport. She was told they wouldn't accept them. She offered a donation to cover the cost of their care. When the kittens were refused shelter, she walked out, leaving the kittens there, feeling horrible about it, but at least feeling they were in safe hands. This was her last desperate attempt at leaving these kittens someplace safe on her way out of town, and this was only done after also attempting to donate a significant amount to SAF. Ann and Brian (of whom I've heard many horror stories) were horribly rude to her (except for when she said the word "donation"). Ann and Brian are horrible, hateful people who do not care about animals and certainly don't treat people well, and If you read the SAF website and mission statement, you will find that they basically contradicted their entire mission statement in this exchange with her. Here is a recount of key points of what they claim to stand for, and how they treated my friend: from the SAF website: "The mission of SAF is to eliminate the need for euthanasia as a means to control the epidemic of animal overpopulation" Brian: "bring them to the SPCA and have them put down." website: "It is our goal to give every pet, owned or abandoned, the chance at life they deserve. We work with regional as well as national rescue groups to ensure that every cat and dog that comes into our clinic gets the medical care they deserve." Ann: "put them back where you found them." Brian: "They're on your property, they're your problem. We rescue OUR animals. These are not my problem." website: "Southern Animal Foundation is a full-service, low-cost animal hospital and rescue organization whose mission is to provide the highest standard of quality and compassion...The Southern Animal Foundation team displays an unrivaled commitment to our clients through continuing education, technological advances in veterinary medicine and service, and most importantly, administering compassionate care to all pets entrusted to us." Brian: "F**k you, you stupid f***ing bitch! You're probably a liberal, too!" He also threatened to call the cops on her for "abandoning" her animals. If she doesn't live here and they weren't on her property and she was trying to help those kittens AND give a donation to cover the cost of their care, how is that "abandoning her animals?" We can all agree that just leaving the kittens there and walking out was perhaps not the best move, but remember that she offered a significant donation and in my opinion, leaving them at a place that claims to rescue animals is much more humane than dumping them on the side of the road where she found them. Every effort to secure a foster was made before she left town. This was merely out of desperation and what she believed was in the best interest of those animals. Personally, I'm relieved that she took the kittens back from them, because they clearly don't care about animals OR people. At the 11th hour, a foster came through. Like my friend, I care about animals and, were my children not allergic, I would have fostered them myself. I think it's important that people know what to expect when they walk into SAF's doors, even if this didn't happen to me. Their behavior was inexcusable. Shame on you SAF.

The owner called to tell me that they "got carried away" and shaved half of my dog. When I went to pick up my dog they admitted their mistake and demanded full payment ($45). The owner then explained to me that grooming is very difficult and that it is very easy to cut a dog's skin with the scissors and clippers. She did not apology for the mistake and was only concerned with receiving full payment for her services.

SAF was recommend to me by friends who couldn't believe how inexpensive they were and I've now recommended it to other people who are as impressed as I am. I've been to both of the vets who are excellent. The staff was very polite (I got to witness their handling of a local nut who accused them of being liars because they're supposed to be non-profit). No, they're not free, Mr. Degenerate New Orleans Cretin, but they are non-profit and they are the cheapest clinic in town. Now that I'm in New Jersey I'm having a hard time finding anything close to that level of animal care at the prices they offer. Consider yourselves lucky, New Orleans.
