Strawberry Fields is directly across from the Dakota. John Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono moved into their 6th floor apartments in 1973. They lived there together until October of that year, when a troubled and confused John moved to Los Angeles without Yoko. They reunited in January 1975, John moved back into the Dakota apartments and their son Sean was born on Oct 9, 1975 - the 35th anniversary of John Lennon's birth; Sean was only five when his father was murdered in front of the Dakota, across the street from what has become the John Lennon Imagine Memorial in Strawberry Fields. Fans still come from all over the world to pay their respects to John, some bringing gifts of flowers, candles or works of art, some strumming guitars and singing classic songs by John and The Beatles, some just walking the grounds, or sitting and talking about John or The Beatles or just silently meditating. For me, Strawberry Fields is a bittersweet place. Mixed in with the tragedy of his death is the beautiful bounty of his life... his songs.... TV appearances and radio and print interviews sprinkled with humor, personal and philosophical insights... and the one time I saw him in person, at Shea Stadium in 1965. RIP John. You will always be remembered with love.
