This was my first visit to “Fancy Nails” and I received a lovely pedicure and manicure. The gentleman who provided my services is the owner (along with his wife.) With the salon now under their management, this husband and wife team is trying to build a life here in the US after leaving Viet Nam because of religious persecution. I chatted with this gentleman and learned that he has completed an undergraduate and 2 masters degrees in engineering and cannot find work. He and his wife have taken out a second mortgage on their house in order to buy the salon. This is the kind of entrepreneurship that has made our country great for centuries. I had looked for a nail salon on Delhi Ave. simply because I was scheduled to attend a dance recital at the College of Mount St. Joe (also on Delhi Ave.) To my surprise, I found a good nail salon and an intriguing story from a new American citizen. Please patronize this nail salon, and help these folks build their life here in Cincinnati.

Every aspect of the way Russ works is clear indicator that the title on his business card ("World's Greatest Master Barber") is not overstated. As I don't travel the world and compare the results of other barbers, it's the "master" part of the King's Court experience I'll focus on.

When I called Russ, I told him exactly what I was looking for: A straight razor shave and a hair trimming (I wear a full beard and longer hair). He immediately countered by telling me that though he could shave that way, history gave us the multi-blade razor for a reason. Operating under the impression that the straight razor provided the best results, I was flabbergasted and told him as much. He said something to the effect of, "Why not come in, let me shave you, and if you don't agree that it's the best, smoothest shave you've ever had, then it's on me".

So I went, and I paid, and I tipped generously. And I'll continue to do so for as long as I remain in Cincinnati.

Gory details of the experience aside, Russ's way of working (as well as his answers) represented his level of knowledge. Nothing short of a master, he noticed that my hair was thinning in several places, and then went on to relate his own experience with it, recommending the solution he used to me. He also explained, in detail, when and why he was using the tools he was using--and yes, at this point I was asking because he encouraged questioning during the shave.

The shave exceeded my expectations, and the cherry on top was that he used a disposable razor to do it. Unsurprisingly, a precise combination of products, methods, and cleanup procedures all contributed to the end result he promised. He made a point of asking if I was satisfied, and pressed me for more detail when I insta-answered, "110%".

To top it all off, he emphasized again and again how he likes to share as much of his knowledge and techniques with his customers so that they can handle their own grooming needs. Noble, sure, but his company alone is worth paying.

This guy is the real deal. But don't take my word for it, go in and see for yourself. And if you're not satisfied with his work, he won't let you pay him. We're talking about a man who operates on "pay me for a job done right", not "pay me for my time".

I have gone to this shop since I was 5 years old. I am 43 now. I have tried other shops, but they can't compare to the quality cut you get from all of the barbers in this shop. Tommie Barnes is holding down his father's legacy superbly. I won't go any place else to get my cut (even when I grow bald).

Very unpleasant experience. I went to their place during my lunch hour. I sat there as the two barbers chatted with one another and with their single client for nearly half an hour. Then the older barber left for his lunch hour. About ten minutes later the younger guy asked me if I had an appointment and I said no. He said something under his breath about the other barber, so I got up and left. As I was walking away, in the Atrium building, the young guy came out his door and yelled something at me. I turned around and indicated to him that I couldn't hear him. He then yelled at me that if I ever came back he would have me thrown out of the building. I'm an older guy and I couldn't understand everything he said but he was clearly hostile because I walked out without saying anything. But his manner was dismissive and mean, and he made no attempt whatever to help me understand the situation. I know I'm never going back to this place, no matter how fancy they think they are.

Be warned. Many of the stylists at the Identity (Kenwood location) are handing out their personal business cards to valued clients. Most of the stylists have stated that they have been looking for other salons to work at because the Identity owners (Kenwood) have not been paying the rent. Half of the stylists have left to find other jobs which is why a lot of the workstations are empty. It's interesting that the salon staff upfront act like they have never heard anything about this information. It's also obvious that the stylists are worried about having employment when they are the ones that actually take an interest in their customers. The front desk staff don't know how much time to schedule for different appointments. I have had nothing but bad experiences with the front desk staff. It's really the talent that retains customers.
So if you are considering in buying a gift card, you can call the staff to inquire about when they will be closing their doors. They might deny it, or they might advise you that the gift cards are also available at their Beechmont location. They are really pushing the gift cards this year, it's interesting because customers may not even be able to use them.

Cincinnati Tattoo is the worst bunch of foul mouthed, dirty drug addicts I have ever seen in my life. They were beyond rude, they were BELIGERENT, racist, smelly and offensive. The shop was FILTHY and I dont see why ANYONE would go there. EVER. There are Clean friendly studios right down the street

Such a cool place! It's like stepping back in time to a place where service and quality are the real kings in a friendly atmosphere. Looking for a haircut? A shoeshine? You'll find the best here. Plus you never know who you might run into, from locals to celebreties...
