I was so upset when I was moving out of the South because I thought I would never see a Hardee's again. I first moved to Castle Rock, CO, and my disappointments were confirmed when I saw a Hardee's NOWHERE. I ended up going to Carl's Jr, though, because I noticed it looked almost the exact same as Hardee's... at least on the exterior. To my delight, it was just about the same inside too :) I have now moved to Los Angeles, and the Carl's Jr here is just as great. I'm pretty sure they're owned by the same company, but if not, they do a great job of giving me the Hardee's that I love without the name.

Cool joint, like an upscale college cafeteria. Basically there are a bunch of salad options and a bunch of people on an assembly line helping you out, sort of like at In N Out. Except these salad items are things like quinoa, beets & goat cheese, wild rice & salmon, watermelon sea crest and ahi tuna, etc etc. Those are plenty for a meal alone, but you could also, or in place of a salad get a peice of salmon, chicken etc. There are a few bangin dessert options too and that's it, you pay and eat.

If you are looking for a scene, this is your best bet. However, if the food is number one on your list, I would stick to the original locations in Studio City and Encino. Yes, they may look like dives, but after your first bite, you won't even be looking up from your plate. Katsuya veterans know what to order no matter which location they are at which is why I still gave it a high rating.

While I was out in California last month, I stopped by In-N-Out before I flew out of LAX. I had never been to one before but had heard how great the burgers are here. This place was packed. I probably waited almost 10 minutes in line to order and was surprised to see how simple their menu was. I had heard about "animal style" fries, but I didn't see them on the menu and was too afraid to ask about them so I just got a double double with cheese combo. I waited for another 10-15 minutes before my order was ready and fortunately found a seat outside (such nice weather in Los Angeles, even in winter!).
I was a bit disappointed in the size of the burger, but it really did taste good. It was unlike any other burger I've had. Dare I say it was even better than White Castle! The fries were okay, but I've had better.
The employees were all really nice and that's unusual to see in a fast food place. Even with all the people, the place was decently clean.
I am definitely going to go to In-N-Out again the next time I get the opportunity.

On the recommendation from a friend I drove to East Los Angeles today to get some tamales from Juanito's. I wasn't disappointed. These may just be the best tamales I have ever had. The aroma of the tamales cooking as well as all the other food filled the air in the small restaurant. A lady was making the tamale dough and the tamales in full view of the counter.

My wife and I ordered some tacos while we were waiting. We ordered a dozen to take home. They were unbelievably good. Most masa with a sauce with a gravy like consistency and packed with plenty of meat. We ordered the pork with red chile.

They were outstanding and well worth the drive.

Bad Perfume Choice. Versailles by Julian Rouas Paris smells like a musty closet, mothballs, or "something old". The heavy scent of pungent-smelling flowers is disagreeable and remotely evocative of flatulence. This perfume smells cheap, vulgar, and incongruously artificial. I have such ´bad luck´ in choosing perfumes. Of all the perfumes out there I had to end up with Julian Rouas Paris "Versailles". This relatively new company only has a few perfumes: Swing for man, Swing for woman, Exstasy Night, L.A. City Swing, and Versailles. The intended or unintended sexual connotation was a bit too obtrusive and equally overwhelming. I´m a little bit shy, and I didn´t want to get emotionally involved, so I chose the less debauched one, Versailles. This is a hard fragrance with too many woody notes and ginger. It reminded me of that crappy cologne I wore in high school. It is strong, unkind, foul-smelling, evocative of ass sweat. This fragrance would even make Paris Hilton cringe. Sadly, the perfume industry has become debased over the past 20 years by the drive towards rampant commercialism. Julian Rouas Paris is positioned as the epitome of that decline. Every idiot has their own perfume these days! A perfume is not only felt by the person wearing it. All I can say is, Versailles made everyone around me ill or irritated (talk about making a lasting impression). Forty minutes after I had sprayed it on, it has become so overpowering that I felt violently ill. I had developed a migraine headache and bad nausea. Driving around town, I would have gladly parked my car and jumped into any swimming pool to wash it off. I did survive this nasty perfume. Once I got home, I´ve tried washing it off, but it didn´t seem to work. It was like removing skunk smell from a dog, my roommate was so appalled at the smell. I would never buy from Julian/rouas/Paris.com again, or from any other online perfume shop for that matter. After calling the company several times, it appears that Julian Rouas Paris has no customer service. Julian Rouas is the ´customer service´. I´m almost certainly out of luck! "how long do you think it will take to get my money back?", I asked diffidently. Julian Rouas was shockingly candid about it and replied succinctly, "what money?!". I will never deal with this one-man company again!

Watch Julian Rouas Paris Versailles on Youtube... This no-budget, amateurish video sucks ass from beginning to end!!

PS: You've cheated your models Mr. Julian Rouas, now the crap hits the fan!!
