The long-time (20+ years) Pastor of this church, Dan Smith, when asked by the head of the music ministry, at the request of a member, to include some patriotic music on July 4th weekend, turned down the request with the following reply: Subject: FW: Music Ministry Request From: [email protected] To: mark Subject: RE: Music Ministry Request Date: Wed, 24 Jun 2009 11:55:11 -0700 Oh, I keep meaning to talk with you about his request. I don’t think it is appropriate to sing nation-specific blessing songs in worship as it leads some people to believe one nation is more blessed by God than another. There are so many, especially in the religious right who already believe the US is “the new Israel” that it is frightening. Not even conservative Jews buy that! We have such a mess with civil religion and pseudo-Christianity today that I don’t think it is a good idea. But thanks for following up on this! From: Mark A Sent: Wednesday, June 24, 2009 11:44 AM To: Pastor Dan; [email protected] Subject: RE: Music Ministry Request Just to follow-up on Stuart's request, shall we do "God Bless America" for the closing song on 7/5? I have access to the music... It seems to me that when one gives one's mother a gift on Mother's Day it's an expression of love rather than a statement that she is the best mother in the world. I personally would have difficulty with a church where the Pastor executes such a political agenda and is insensitive to requests from church members.

I recently went to the kabbalah center for an event they had called 29LA. I figured it was going to be a spiel to get me to join or spend more money. While I am skeptical by nature, on occasion if I feel inspired by something, I will go for it. Unfortunatly or fortunatly for me, I was not inspired by this at all, which I was actually a little disappointed by since I have been wanting to learn more about kabbalah.

I've been attending for 3 years and I must stay this is the most well rounded, biblically based church I have ever attended. They preach the Word of God, the music is awesome and very relevant, and the diversity is awesome. I love being here. As with anything in life, if you are willing to do your part and get involved, the return you'll get in community, life and a relationship with Christ is gonna be well worth it. : )

This place was great. They really answered my questions and showed me what Scientology really was. I like how I can just walk around and watch a few videos and see for myself what Scientology is all about. No high pressure or anything. They were polite and just answered my questions honestly. Thanks for letting me find out for myself what Scientology was all about.

A Chinese proverb about stealing cover one's own ears while stealing a bell. Ignoring the facts is only fooling oneself. When a baptist church member scams a person she must pay back . The pastor said it is not his problem, true but bad for the image for his church and all the baptist churches. The pastor should confront the problem . She cannot go through life scamming people. She may move to your church just be aware.

A Chinese proverb about stealing cover one's own ears while stealing a bell. It is so sad when a church member rips or scams another person. The pastor does not deal well with conflict. She continues to do this. Just be aware she may move to your church. She is hurting people and the pastor needs to stand up and say stop.

St. James Missionary Baptist Church is a very nice church. The Pastor and members are very friendly. They make everyone feel welcome. Their motto is "St. James is large enough to serve you and small enough to know you". I recommend that if you are in the Jefferson Park area and are looking to enjoy a spirit filled, Bible teaching church, then St. James is the place!

I Love my church and cannot imagine my life without the love, support, guidance and inspiration of Pastor Rich and the congregation and fellowships that I have made over the years of attending there. This is a church that believes in Life and how we can all have a better life by the words and examples of Jesus Christ. Pastor Rich is a prayful man who seeks to learn the truth and share with all whom will listen, what he learns along the way. It is an individual choice to believe and/or take away from his messages the things that cultivate our own personal spiritual goals. My life and understanding of the truth have been deeply enriched by the choices that I have made that are directly related to the messages that I have heard each Sunday. All at welcome here.

This small church is doing more than other big churches in the area of Los Angeles. Pastor Rivas and his wife, have a program on 1580 Radio Uncion full of the word of God and the holly spiryt.
