RUDE BARTENDER CHARGED US MORE THAN DOUBLE!!! Last Fri night, my friend and I quietly sat at the bar and waited for several minutes for service, though the bar wasn’t busy. A female bartender (dark, wavy/frizzy hair, average-looking) finally approached us, unsmiling. She treated us with undeniable contempt, as though she didn’t want us there. SHE CHARGED US $10 A BEER, which seemed to us to be excessive for a dive bar in Los Feliz. Stupidly, we paid it. She never checked on us after that. Even more stupidly we left her a $2 tip. I called 2 days later to ask how much beer was there. The male who answered said “$3.75 and $4.75”!!
I was clearly overdressed for a dive bar and my friend is French. I think she assumed we were tourists, or at least knew we weren’t regulars, and thought she could make some easy money.
I left a msg for the mgr to call me. He never did. I called the next day and a female, claiming to also be a mgr, listened to me and said “That’s strange” and “I don’t know who that couldn’t been”, like she had no clue who I was describing. I told her I wanted my money back and she told me to drop by.
When I arrived I noticed her hair was exactly like the woman who gypped us. So I can’t say for sure if it was the same person or they just looked alike. I said why I was there, and she asked if she could “buy me a beer”. As if that would be enough. I said I just wanted my money back. She only gave me $10.00, without asking which beer we ordered. She owed us at the very least $10.50 and at the most $12.50, but I just left it. I told her “It’s none of my business, but I hope you fire the b*tch”. She had the nerve to say “Oooh, there’s no need for that kind of language”. Hmmm. What would you call a person who steals from their customers? And we were in a bar, not a church. I knew then that the bartender wouldn’t be reprimanded. Maybe they’re BFFs, maybe they are the same person, or maybe everyone at that bar engages in that kind of unscrupulous activity. Who knows? But at least she gave me most of our money back.
All I know is that I will never go to that crappy bar again. MAKE SURE YOU AREN’T OVERCHARGED IF YOU GO. AND DON’T LEAVE THE BI-ATCH A TIP.
