My company throws a party every year for Thunder and I recently became the PR coordinator for it, previously my boss had hired this company for tables, chairs, a tent and inflatables and so I did as well. The owner initially came to the property without me to assess what we needed, she assumed wrongly we were doing the same set up as last year. I had to ask her to come out again and she seemed put out by this request. They also placed a trailer next to the inflatable and my boss said we needed to move it, it was dangerous. Mary Jo was upset they had to come out again and move it. The day of the event, our tables and tableclothes were not matching up. Also, there were no linen weights as we had discussed and it was windy so the tableclothes were flying off. I spoke to Mary Jo and she said she could not find any linen weights, but she had not mentioned that until a few hours before the event. When I made a comment about that, she became very defensive. That's when I got on her wrong side, I guess. We tried to call her several times throughout the day but she was not answering her phone. Later, she claimed she spoke to me 7 times that day..?? Finally we gave up and worked with what we had. After the event, a key to the property was temporarily misplaced so she could not get a few tables and chairs. She was not very understanding about this at all. She was getting easily irritated with me regarding some other stuff --we still owed her $104.and our owner had been stuck in France, so the checks were delayed a few weeks. She was upset about this, but i did not know the checks had not gone out. Then, she tried to call my boss, I guess to complain. I told her my boss was on vacation but she called her anyway! Who does that when someone is on vacation? She could not seem to wait a few days to allow my very hard working boss a nice few days off. I finally spoke to her and she went off on me so badly I started to cry, saying I was unprofessional and a terrible PR person. She did not believe our owner reviews and signs all the checks...she said I was blowing her off. She said I had treated her rudely and acted like I had lied about the key being missing. She said I "humilated" her by asking her to get a key from the neighbor. I apologized to her over and over but she just kept yelling at me. She did not seem to care I was crying and she was very, very mean to me. I was upset the whole day and could not believe the way things had gone down, I feel terrible about it all! It was my first year and I may not have done everything perfect, but she did not have to do or say the things she did nor bother my boss on holiday. Thank goodness we are not doing the party next year!
