I remember back in 1989 my store manager complaining that every time he turned on HBO he'd hear "Well I had the time of my life....." and then snap the T.V. off in disgust. I know how he felt and years later the look he gave still makes me chuckle.

Having grown up w/an older sister, I had to watch this quite a few times. Even though I haven't seen the fucking thing in over 20 years, I still have Kellerman's Anthem pop into my hand.

On the downs, Scott Pilgrim is a dirty hipster. On the ups, the exes were funny as shit and the fight scenes were decent. Add in some decent quotes and it will provoke a four from me, plus I liked the Vegan Police gag.

UPDATE: Scott should also count himself as lucky that he wasn't trying to date Taylor Swift. Fighting your way through that many guys can't be easy...

The tawdry truth about this show isn't that it is programmed so that middle-aged guys can sit and watch TV with their wives and have fantasies about the well-preserved actresses that make up the ensemble cast. It's that their wives are watching for the same reason.

Aside from being over-hyped bit of angry revenge porn I suppose it was a pleasant night out at the cinema. How they squeezed that little bit of a story into a 975 page book is a mystery to me.

Jon Favreau started out as a pretty interesting film maker by directing Swingers. But he fell into the Hollywood Machine of churning out the stupidest, formula , special-effects tripe in the business in the blink of an eye.

I think this generations teenagers have it better than the generation that grew up with John Hughes's films. That's not saying much, admittedly, but teen cinema generally aims for the lowest common denominator.

My generation had it even worse in terms of teen film product. Thankfully that meant that we got to go see the Godfather, the French Connection, Dog Day Afternoon and the original Taking of Pelham One Two Three with Walter Matthau instead.

This decade is just fine. The best aspects of it just aren't reflected in this list.

I saw a couple of episodes when Charlie Sheen was still doing it. Didn't really get much out of it. I can't imagine that exchanging Sheen for Ashton Kutcher made it any better.

He has lots of red hair and participates in a sport that is only relevant once every four years. I think that sums it up.
