A friend of mine has one of these. He's a biter, but I'm certain I can win him over.
He's a really cool bird though, if you begin to whistle the Andy Griffith theme he'll finish it.

Not worth the trouble to clean and cook. Only a small measly mouthful of meat.

Budgies are such wonderful pets. They are pleasant, sweet, and easy to train. You can easily teach them a number of tricks. Also, they are really clean birds. Some budgies can be taught how to speak. Even if they do not learn how to speak, they will recognize certain songs and chirp along. Some are even great dancers. Budgies do not even have to stay in a cage most of the time. They can be trained to fly to certain people or fly across the room when called. They are terrific pets!

I am a Certified Avian Specialist - AFA Certified Aviculturist - AACC Member in good standing and have over 30 years experience in keeping and raising parrots of all kinds.

Seeds are indeed healthy for most common species of household parrots. Pellets are a mass-media hoax and are not the panacea they would like you to believe. These companies generate a great deal of money - they do not have your pets' best interest at heart.

Seeds are only unhealthy if that is "" all "" you feed your pet.

Parrots ADORE real food! Apples, broccoli, cauliflower, cooked brown rice, grain bread, healthy cereals, corn, peas, carrots, cooked egg, cooked chicken ......etc. etc.. almost any food that is healthy for you is healthy for your bird.

Cockatoos prefer grain based foods such as grain bread, healthy cereal, cooked pasta, corn etc. Most love a bit of organic peanut butter on grain bread cubes!

Cockatiels prefer greens like broccoli and dark green leafy veggies. They aren't big on fruit but many will eat it. Cockatiels and lovebirds are, by nature, seed eaters in the wild.

Most parrots will not eat pellets unless actually forced to do so - some species can suffer serious and life threatening concerns from a pellet diet.

Real, Natural Food is best...... organic is even better. Seeds and nuts are real foods too!

Don't be fooled by the brainwashing!!

Use your head...... :)

I adopted a 13 year old quaker who had been in multiple households but had for at least the 3 years prior to my adoption of her been feed a seed diet, which I immediately started to change. Initially i had very little luck, which did not surprise me since I knew how picky these guys could be. My success finally came when I realized that she wanted to eat EVERYTHING I put in my mouth, so, naturally, I started eating the pellets and slowly she came to recognize them as a food source. She got to the point of sorting the pellets (eating all the pellets of a single color at a time) and the rainbow poop disturbed me enough to decide to switch her to the Natural maintenance formula which contains no artificial coloring, they don't taste as good (trust me), but she eventually accepted the 'dull' pellets as food.
Strangely enough, when (at the suggestion of my vet) I tried to switch her to Harrison's. she would have nothing to do with it. The pellets look and even taste fairly similar to the ZuPreem Natural Maintenance, but I cannot get her to consistently eat them.
