Jack Klugman plays a man who is determined to be the best pool player ever. he has always wished he could play "fats" Brown. one night he gets his wish. Jonathan winters plays the late fats brown. they play to the end and we find out if Randolph gets his wish. Fats warns him that winning is not as great as it seems. and there are sometimes a price to pay for winning. a good episode with very good performances by Jack Klugman and Jonathan Winters. won't give away the ending. but does make one think "just how important is it to win" and what is the price for winning? UPDATE: sadly Jack Klugman died today. a great actor. may he rest in peace.!!

a 2.5. one of the less likable episodes. maybe because Albert Salmi plays a horrible greedy man. you could tell that he was really younger than the character he was playing. He makes a deal with the devil to give up a lot of his fortune to go back in time to make more money. . his character was just too greedy and hateful. even disgusting. obviously there was no surprise when in the end he got just what he deserved. really no ironic twists in this episode. you basically figured since he was such a rotten person he would somehow pay in the end.not the worst Twilight zone show. but more of a shrug of the shoulders.

I expected more from this episode, it lacked the feeling of the rest of the series.
Also what the heck is Cliffordville.

this is a one hour episode. Ann Jillian plays a little girl who can communicate telepathatic. she has never spoken. when her parents die. she is taken in by a foster family. the woman becomes close to the girl and gives her the love she never had. it turns out the girl is from somewhere else and "her people" have come to take her back with them. the girl has grown close to her foster mom and the foster mom whose own daughter died has grown to love the mute child. one of the more touching episodes. maybe even asks "what is best for the child?"

a 4.5. this episode is one of the hour long ones. Robert Duvall is especially good as the mild mannered man who visits a museum and is obsessed with a old doll house that has miniature doll figures. he sees them as alive and moving. he is the only one who can see them "alive" he keeps coming back and stares at the miniature house display for hours. his family becomes very concerned about him.the end is classic Twilight Zone. one I liked. a very good episode with a great performance by Robert Duvall.

pretty interesting. five very different characters end up in this dismal bin like room that has a very high ridge to get out of. none know how they got here. they just ended up in this "room" the soldier is the one with all of the questions. why are we here. why are we NOT hungry. how can we get out. they do try and the soldier even makes it to the rim and falls out. the very ending shows why they are there and it was pretty good. got to admit on the first viewing did not see that coming. pretty good episode. with a good ending.

I first saw it as a kid, never forgot it, and recently bought it on DVD. Yeah, it's a silly premise, but that's what was magical about "Twilight Zone" when it worked. For instance, the episode with Anne Francis ("After Hours"), or the idea for the episode, is ridiculous when viewed in the cold light of day, but that episode alternately haunted and terrified me for years, and when I watch it now, I can well understand why. The genius of Rod Serling was to take the mundane and make it mysterious, and...in some cases...miraculous.

"Five Characters In Search Of An Exit" isn't quite as powerful as "After Hours" but it's pretty potent stuff, thanks mainly to the actors involved, particularly the late, great William Windom. Windom was an always reliable character actor who could make good material great and bad material better. Also exceptionally good in this episode is Australian actor Murray Matheson, who plays the sardonic, defeated clown. Susan Harrison as the ballet dancer was very pretty, and the scene at the end, where a single tear emerges from "her" eye (or the eye of...but I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it) was simultaneously haunting, chilling, and sad, despite the "upbeat" voice over.

If the episode has a fault, it's the occasionally overblown verbiage Serling puts into the mouths of his characters. Serling was definitely a genius, and when he was on the top of his game, his ideas and his scripts were unforgettable. But occasionally, when he wasn't able to reign himself in, the dialogue could be cringe-inducing; at his worst, Serling's characters don't talk to each other--- they pontificate at each other in long, windy, self-righteous monologues. Thankfully, that only happens once or twice in this episode (and even when it does, it doesn't rankle quite as much thanks to the skill of the actors involved), and what's good about it certainly outweighs any negativity.

Not necessarily one of the "best" episodes, but it made an indelible impression on me, and it's certainly one that the viewer won't forget anytime soon.

Last month I was in urgent need of 2000 dollars, to pay off my debt. My loan application was rejected by many lending firms, due to my poor credit score. Then one of my collogue suggested me that I should contact Credit Season as they are known for providing loan, despite having bad credit history. I contacted them and applied for a loan by filling their online application form on their website and within 24 hours my loan was approved. I am thankful to the entire team of Credit Season and I will recommend their services to everyone.

As others have said Sebastian Cabot makes the episode worth watching. Pretty cushy afterlife for a lowlife but the concept of mental boredom, rather than physical torture, as a punishment is good.
