I have just gone through my first and most likely last claim! It seems that after dealing with several customer service employees over a month my claim for removal of a cancerous tumor on my dogs cheek was denied due to a preexisting condition on his foot! My dog is a rescue whose previous owners neglected ear mites and an infection on his foot. The infection became a growth or extra skin in between his toes so the initial vet saw no need to take extra tests to determine if it was cancerous. Furthermore it could not be removed due to a heart condition. The vet told me and stated in her report to wrap it so it wouldn't drag and get infected or a 'rug burn'. However, Embrace seems to think the foot growth is related to the cheek tumor therefore a pre existing condition. But they are more than happy to assist me with an appeal that if like the first correspondence will take weeks! As I informed them, they can call the initial vet and current vet if they really had any questions otherwise they are using the preexisting clause as an excuse not to pay $628.

Pet insurance is a scam. It is best to save that premium $ in a savings account. Embrace has wasted my time and $! And if I did still believe in pet insurance because of their failure I would not be covered under another pet insurer for his cheek tumor due to "pre existing conditions"!!

We were quoted a cheap rate and as soon as we joined we were hit with all kinds of hidden fees. It increased our rate to almost double what they quoted. When we went to cancel 2 months later they hit us with a early termination fee of $300. This we didn't find out until we pulled our credit report and found we had been sent to collections. There were so many things wrong here, I would never recommend using Esurance or now Allstate. Stay far away from them.

A horrible company to deal with. they totally ripped me off on an education savings plan for my kids. Ask about their incredibly high management, poor return on investment and additional hidden fees if you withdraw your money before 7 years. They sold me a fund that I can't withdraw money from until after my kids have finished college.

BEWARE: THE WORST PET INSURANCE YOUR MONEY MAY AS WELL GO IN THE GARBAGE!!!!!

As the owner of a new puppy Sir Sampson a Great Dane from a horrifying breeder, I felt Pet Insurance was a MUST........Hind sight is 20/20 if I had known then what I know now i would have put my " Premiums" in a piggy bank and use that for all my vet care.

Instead i BELIEVED all the CRAP I read on the PetPlan website and from the PetPlan reps...BIG MISTAKE.... Bottom line is this, your claims will be DENIED no matter what, The declarations page is set up in such a way that whatever they CLAIM they provide coverage for they don't....For instance they allege they provide coverage for congenital and hereditary diseases/illness FALSE CAUSE ONCE YOU READ WHAT THEY DO NOT COVER, WHICH IS PRE EXISTING LOL, See a catch the Gotcha Fool.........Obviously to Normal thinking people anything Congenital or Hereditary from Birth would be pre existing LOL SO THEY COVER NOTHING NADA......And Don't expect they will cover 500.00 in Death benefits if you pet dies,,,cause that is more LIES they will DENY they claim I had 5 claims DENIED including Death benefits.......A WASTE OF MONEY PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THEY DON'T PAY CLAIMS THIS IS THE EXACT REASON YOUR PET OR EMERGENCY CARE PROVIDER WILL NOT ACCEPT PAYMENT DIRECTLY FROM PETPLAN

I would like to share my recent experience with my Homeowners insurance company, Liberty Mutual. Two yrs. ago we bought a house and my policy cost $485. At the time I thought the price was a little high but I knew Liberty was a decent company. In the past two yrs. it has gone up a total of 190 bucks, that's right my premium is now 676 dollars! So I called them and said I hadn't had any claims and nothing has changed, so why the increases? They gave me a bull crap story of how it would cost more now than two years ago to rebuild my home. To make a long story short I called Progressive and got a quote from them. The coverage I purchased is actually better, and the price for the year, Get this, $295! If you have Liberty Mutual I strongly suggest calling around and getting some quotes! Sue, my girlfriend, also has Liberty for her car insurance and guess what, it went up 200 bucks a year! She's never had a ticket or an accident! Needless to say we will be dropping that coverage as well.

Adopted a dog from a shelter, took him home and within the month noticed he was not well. After six months of testing and finally a diagnosis, I had spent about $700.00. The company denies my claim, stating it was pre-existing. The dog had been in the shelter for three days and nothing was documented about his symptoms. When I call the company, I must wait for 30 minutes and more and finally hang up, three times. Out of curiosity, I called the number to buy a policy and of course, they answer immediately. However, if they know you are calling about a claim, they do not answer the phone. Please know also, that I had full coverage insurance which cost $21.00/month and still they denied me. Incredibly frustrating and amazing that people can take advantage of sick shelter animals and owners who are trying to do a decent and good thing by taking these poor animals home and providing medical care. Disgusting.

I adopted a cat April 8th, with the contractural agreement from shelter care and ACCT of 30 day Gift of pet insurance. No claim form, no list or detailing of what the will and won't cover. There was a routine office visit on the 12th which is the same day we had a difficult time simply getting shelter care to fax the claim form needed by the vet to fill out and submit for reimbursement.

3 weeks and three phone calls later ( would've attempted to contact mor but each call to shelter care was a ***45 minute wait*** before you speak with a live person > I timed it)I finally reached a gentleman with a british accent who tells me the insurance was cancelled as of April 16th. The cat was surrendered for behavioral issues but should'nt I have recieved a call or some sort of information informing of the decision instead of no response at all...not the kind of relationship you'de want to develope with your customer I would think. I have been in customer service management four years as a supervisor and wouldn't allow the customer to go on thinking there is a reimbursement due to them. After the paperwork and claim form is faxed to your office, who gives a damn...they'll figure it out sooner or later attitude, right??

Giving a customer the common courtesy, keeping the customer informed instead of the guessing game with an official detailed of what you will and wont cover. People are trying to do something good by saving a life and adopting, don't leave a bitter taste in thier mouths and fearful of not being reimbursed from another pet ins. co.

SO... who'll be the next one for damage control attempt?

Ive been reading these reviews and it is funny to me because i too had Sheltercare's gift and thought it was an excellent offer from a company that did not need to pay for any of MY bills. If they had to cover every single issue and every single claim sent in they wouldnt have a business! It's the same with any other insurance company.

Granted, there are some stipulations, but nothing is ever really "free" right? I read the terms and understood not everything was covered, and was also explained this when i called in to add my 15 days, that pre existing isnt covered and that the gift is limited to covering just a few shelter related conditions. Yes- they tried to sell me an upgrade - which is understandable - they are after all a business. I declined and decided not to go with more coverage until my dog swollowed a sock and i had a big vet bill. Obviously that wasn't covered but right after when I could afford it i signed up for their insurance and havent had any issues since.

My 6 year old cat was diagnosed with a severe case of crystals in his urine a year ago. Pets Best paid for that exam and by doing so, acknowledged that the cat had this underlying condition. The vet changed his food. A year later, we ran another check to see if the food had solved the problem. Pets Best refused – even after an appeal including a strongly worded letter from the vet – to credit the paltry amount of the urine check against my deductible, stating that it was a "wellness" check since the cat was asymptomatic, and therefore not covered. The cat was asymptomatic a year ago, the crystals were discovered when the cat was brought in for another problem, but Pets Best covered it then. Not now. I will be canceling all three of my policies with them as soon as I find another carrier. They are totally unreasonable and rigid in their approach to customer care. And I pay hundreds of dollars a year in premiums! Stay far away from this company.
