Tue May 29 2007I love ZZ Top for several reasons. Their songs kind of give off quite a few sexual innuendos, but despite that particular vibe, they possess a lot of fun songs, as a result. If I had to choose my favorite song, I would definitely say "Gimme All Your Loving" as it's a great song. ZZ Top is amazing, as their greatest hits CD helped me get through an 18 hour drive. They have managed to take the rock genre and crossover into the blues genre, without losing their edge and universalism. What makes ZZ Top so exceptional is that they are the only band in the history of music that has never changed it members, let alone broke up. They have managed to stay together after so many years. I actually believe that ZZ Top is more "Classic Rock" than Heavy Metal or Hard Rock. One thing is certain, I love them.

Thu May 11 2006If there was a "Best Bluesy Rock band" catagory they'd be in the top 10. These guys are legends and Billy Gibbons is a great guitarist. Check out the tasty riffs to "Just Got Paid" and "Waitin' on the Bus" to name a few. Good, tasty band.

Mon Nov 21 2005Not quite sure why they're in this category. Hardly hard rock let alone metal but a good quality blues rock combo. Some great albums like Deguello and Tres Hombres but some disappointments like Rhythmeen and Recycler.

Mon Aug 15 2005Not quite a heavy metal band but they fit I guess. The older stuff was better. The 80's MTV material was fun and harmless.

Sat Feb 12 2005I must admit that I have never appreciated ZZ Top as much as the band probably deserves. Hard rock is supposed to sound a bit distorted at times, but this band wasn't really a hard rock band. They were (are I suppose) a blues/southern rock band; however, there were some pre-Eliminator moments (eg Tush, La Grange, Cheap Sunglasses, and Pearl Necklace), but even then I was mostly uninspired. Adding insult to injury, for Eliminator (1983) the band went Hollywood and added synths and sequencers to satisfy the new I want my MTV generation. The result was some immortal party, Big 80's classics (eg Gimme All Your Lovin' and Legs), but the long-term damage had been done (though Got Me Under Pressure was one of their better tracks). To the band's credit, they didn't settle for performance style videos (ie standing and playing while the camera rolled as so many older school rockers did on early videos); instead the group developed a good concept and took it all the way to a rather large ban... Thu Apr 01 2004Some cracking albums like Eliminator, Tres Hombres and Deguello plus the great vids. Other post Eliminator albums are more patchy but still some top tracks on each.

Wed Nov 19 2003I always thought that ZZ Top were for good ol' boys who liked the blues but didn't really want to see colored folks singing them. But how can anyone say anything bad about ZZ Top? Like AC/DC they've been around forever, still doing their thing better than anyone else, and Billy Gibbons really is a terrific blues guitarist. I don't like their music very much but I have to show respect for everything they do.

Sun Nov 09 2003A great band, a great party band, but they belong on the classic rock list not this one.

Sun Sep 07 2003They had it all: great music, long beards, cool cars, and the wierd hand motion.

Sun Jul 27 2003They are ok but cmon, they don't even have a bassist. They also use drum machines for beat.

Sat Mar 22 2003There are BAD, They are Nationwide. The band attiude toward concert is really a shame, many fans never get an encore. I witness this no encore at the Monster Of Rock in England in 1983. Now I know why you can't bring glass bottles and cans to a concert, the poor roadies got SHOWERED with trash! But because they have produce great albums and videos the get 2 star rating! Keep away from those TV Dinners.

Thu Jan 02 2003I am truly sad to give them this rating. I have blabbed on and on about classic artists who have refined rather that kept there raw edge but I cannot let these guys of the hook. If you havent heard ZZ Top albums like Rio Grand Mud,(75-76) Please do yourself a favor and do so. THAT is the sound that these guys created and it was like no other! They were the one true model of Texas Blues Rock before and until Stevie Ray Vaughn came along, but once they added keybords, samples and drum machines ('Energized' and all after) They had truly sold there souls. It was not the same product. Its one thing to go from hard rock to POP but it is a crime to go from the BLUES to PoP!!! Sorry guys, even as a fellow Houstonian I remember the heartbreak when I heard 'Legs' and Sharp Dressed Man for the first time!!

Wed Nov 27 2002ZZ TOP take the Texas blues genre and mixes it with some funkabilly, some synthrock, a 350 Chevy, some tone from Valhalla, some Hendrix and lots of attitude. These guys are still as committed to the act as they were when they decided they only need three guys and three chords.

Tue Feb 05 2002Good power trio. Did not sound as well in person due to the egotism of "we don't need a fourth." Too many "trio's" have the same affliction. Loved their video's, even tho I hate music videos. I wish, MTV, etc. would just go away. Well produced recordings and they are reputed to be "regular" people. Too bad they didn't add some horns. Might have made a major difference in Pop history. These dudes really just wanted to play the Blues and make a living.

Thu Oct 25 2001How could you not like their beards? It was funny in The Simpsons how Bart saw a group of rabbis and thought they were ZZ Top.
