I was so nervous and scared about getting my first tattoo....I was not going to go to just any tattoo shop!!! I knew right away after walking into Zaps, that this is where I wanted to get my tattoo done. The shop itself has such a great vibe and Von Shock was super-nice and super-patient. His shop is comfortable and very clean!!!! I would recommend going to Von if you want a great experience and some super nice ink done!!!!! I love the ladybug tattoo that he did for me, and when I am ready to get another one done, I know that the only place I will go will be Zaps : )

My first introduction to ZAP Tattoo was from my friend. She referred me to get my first tattoo done there and I have been a fan of Von Shock and his work since then. I have gotten 8+ tattoos from him and referred over 20 people. All the people that I have referred have referred their friends and so on and so forth. I would not trade my experience with Von Shock in for the world. The artists at ZAP tattoo do a great job and are very patient with their customers. ZAP has stayed open for me 3 hours past closing time just so they could satisfy me as a customer and make sure the work that I received was outstanding. Von even bought me and my friends lunch once because he was running 10 minutes late. He is an outstanding person and an outstanding artist. I do not understand how someone can negatively rate his work/attitude/professionalism. Von Shock is all about customer satisfaction and quality work at an affordable price. I recommend his work to anyone. If you ever have any dou... Read more

my best friend and i just had the most amazing experience getting tattoos at zaps. from the minute we walked in, we knew this was the place (after having visited numerous shops with horrible service, prices, and vibes). von totally rocked it!! he covered up an old tattoo and it looks nothing shy of amazing. i reccommend him to anyone wanting a tattoo.... first timers or ink happy gurus. his creativity is vast and he can make anything happen (unlike the artist yesterday who drew squigglies on my arm like an amateur). please disregard the comment below from the lancaster, pa native. clearly he has no idea of what he is talking about. not only was the service incredible, but the prices seemed too good to be true. two thumbs up to von shock!! cheers!

I LOVED my experience at Von's shop!! He was very personable, professional and extremely clean. This was my second tatto and he did such a great job giving me exactly what I wanted. He has been in the business for about 30 years and is a great artist as well as a tattoo artist. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat to anyone that wants a good tattoo and wants to haev a great experience getting one:-) loved it!

I first discovered Zap when I accompanied my friend to get his very first tattoo (i had my first one done at Zulu) and was immediately assured of the shop's high quality work and great prices. The shop's minimum $ is only $50, which is amazing considering the following: (1) It's located on Melrose. (2) Most tattoos shops' minimum prices are ~$60. (3) The saying goes, "good tattoos aren't cheap and cheap tattoos aren't good." This is not to say that the tattoos are "cheap," rather they are decently priced for the extraordinary work that is done. I have a bigger custom piece planned for my thigh, which is to be done by Misha at Zulu, but I think Zap is great for smaller pieces. Von (the owner) did my ink and he was so great. - amazing customer service - he is an amazing storyteller - makes the atmosphere so comfortable - entertaining to say the least - has ~29 years of tattooing under his belt!

I first came into Zap Tattoo 5-years ago and got work over my shoulder. 5-years later I figured it was time for more work and came in to get my whole back done and after minor searches for the right pattern we started up on the perfect layout for my next tattoo. I Liked the work that was done so much I recommended him to my step-father and my own mother for work as well as two friends of mine! As long as Von is doing the work I will be coming here.

Shock's Zap Tattoo on Melrose gives me hope for Hollywood artists. When arriving, he was much more personable than many other shop owners I've worked with around here. He shook my hand and the hand of my fiance, took a look at my ideas, gave me a price and then took about 45 minutes to draw up the design. For a piece covering 85% of my outer upper left arm, the cost was $300 - full color and custom drawn. Shock exhibited the skill and patience of someone who has been in the business for 20 years. He gave me a comfortable place to wait, talked to me about the design before he started, and then asked me periodically how I was doing. Once an hour he stops and gives the client a 5 or 10 minute breather, and he's really good about inquiring when it's time to stop - we all have our limits and they are all a little different in my experience - so instead of pretending he can read minds, or putting his agenda first, he keeps connected with the client the entire time he's working. The sa... Read more

For my 45th birthday I descided to get a tattoo. A celebrity friend of mine had gone to Zap tattoo and recomended me to do the same. Von(the owner) talked with me about what I wanted and we began to work. I admit I was a little nervous, but Von calmed my fears and got me to relax. His artistry and precision were and are phenominal! He created an incredible head of Medusa. Not an easy feat and highly detailed. Everyone I showed it to were inpressed and thought it was a work of art! Von does impressive work and I gratefull I went to him for my tatto. I have and will still recomend him to everyone I know. Kudos Von!!!

Von Shock & Zap Tattoo aren't worth the trouble I have no idea about his skill as an artist because his snotty attitude had me turned around and out the door within 5 minutes after I entered. My wife and I were on vacation in Cali and had both decided to go under the needle for a little vacation memory. She planned on getting a small star (about the size of a penny) and I was in need of getting my third child's name added to my arm in a very simple Celtic font... both of these would normally cost about $20 to $30. Zap tattoos minimum charge is $60. Regardless of the price, when we entered, Mr. Von Shock asked us if we were intoxicated. We replied that we were not and he said, "Well, you look a little jittery....don't lie to me, because I have a background in police enforcement." Oooooh! Was that supposed to scare me? We honestly were not intoxicated in any way, (Maybe a little hungover from the day before) but he seemed to be implying that we were some junkies coming down from a hero... Read more
