Yngwie Malmsteen

It's amazing how fast he can play.... but, what else...? only speed... After 5 or 6 songs, I can't stand it and I have to change to something like Uli Jon Roth (another monster, but with better musical taste to me).

Leave his arrogance out of this and you can't not give this guy five stars.  He invented neo-classical.  I don't care if you hate his music, take one star away for that but the man is a musical master.  Undeniably on of the most skilled AND influencial guitarist of all time.  You only know how to play arpeggios because of this guy.

Yngwie is probably the most energetic guitar sound there is. He is also one of the most diverse in his styles from Classical Guitar to Speed Metal...he is a wonder

Does he have talent?...yes.  Does he know how to use it?...no.  Malmsteen thnks every song no matter what the time signature, needs a solo that's lightning fast.  Too many of his solos just run together.

To each his own but IMO his music is repetitious and somewhat boring.

Yngwie is a great guitarist. The only thing that makes him good and not great is the ability to blend with other guitar players. On the G3:Rockin' in the Free World, Yngwie was soloing way too much. Instead of soloing , maybe he ought to learn how to blend with other guitar players.

Yngwie is GOD PERIOD! His 1984 self titled debut 'Rising Force' is a must have the master guidebook for any up and coming metal player! Yngwie raised the bar and since then many Yngwie clones have tried but have never reached his level and I doubt anyone ever will.. Yngwie is a LEGEND and the ELITE of the ELITE.... Nuff Said!!!

Yngwie is already a legend. He OWNS his unique neo-classical style/genre, and stands above anyone else talent-wise. His speed and control is utterly mind-numbing, BUT he plays with incredible emotion as well. To those deaf simpletons who suggest he is emotion-less, you seriously need to put down the crack pipe and learn a thing or two about song composition and structure. Yngwie is a MASTER at building up TENSION, and then RELEASING it with his guitar 'flights of fancy', and he does it with such world class style and aplomb, it's almost magical. Long live Yngwie J. Malmsteen... a true rock guitar innovator extraordinaire!!!

Possible the fastest fretw*nker around, now that Shawn Lane has departed, and technically very accomplished. Trouble is IMO his music is unlistentable, pretentious, mock classical sh*te. If I want Paganini I'll listen to Paganini. I mark Malmsteen down becasue he single handedly spawned the yawnfest that is prog metal, which fortunately has always been a niche within the metal scene. Also doesn't help that he's an arrogant big-headed t*sser either.

Fast picker as hell, and an asshole of a person. If he coulb be more sympathetic, I wouldnt be ashamed for being a Swedish guy as I am, and Yngwie aswell.

Yngwie can pick faster than anyone on this planet. He does not incorperate as much emotion as Vai or others, but there is no arguing his ability to shred like no other.
