Yesterday's News Cat Litter

This is an amazing product and would recommend to anyone. I suggest you gradually switch your cats litter box by mixing with the clay litter over a week or so. My kitten didn't have any trouble switching and this litter by FAR exceeded my expectations for odor CONTROL. There is NO smell what so ever...period. Prior to using this product, I have always used a multi cat clumping litter and despite sifting daily I STILL had a cat box odor. I agree with others that the bowel movements don't get covered as well as with the clay but the lack of odor, no tracking and easy cleanup makes this a winner. My suggestion if you have 1 cat is to only fill the box with about 2 inches of pellets...that's it and just dump it out every other day. If you have multiple cats just dump it daily as you really can not easily pick it out. It has saved me lots of time and it's better for the enviroment. I so want this product to work but so far ... not too happy.. It does get out of the litter box but much easier to sweep than clay. The smell is awful. The urine turns to amonia quickly and we are cleaning the box several times a day? I have seen a mix of reviews. Could it be based on the cat rather than the litter... Just a thought. OUr cats are just going for surgery this week so we will be using it for awhile longer. Hoping to like it better.

Before Purina gave Yesterday's News new packaging, it seem to work great, no problems at all, but now, they have new packaging and claim to have the same formula. This is not true...the litter hardly absorbs any urine at all..its just terrible! We have a multi-cat household and I do take care of the litter boxes many times during the day & night, but we have burned through 2 huge bags in a small amount of time from excess scooping the drenched pellets. We are now searching for another brand!!

Oh my gosh, I will never go back to the clumping litter again. After my kittens were declawed, the vet told us to use litter recycled from newspaper (Yesterday's News) and the kittens use it. When I clean it up, there is no dust in the air like the clumping litter and I don't have to scrape the bottom of the litter box as I had to previously. It is actually cleaner and there is no more awful litter accumulated outside of the litter box that I have to sweep up. I will not go back to the clumping litter. Also, I recently found out that the clumping litter is really bad for kittens' health. They inhale the tiny pellets into their lungs and it sticks to the lungs. I wish I had known that with my last four cats, they might still be alive. The real reason though is, it is so much easier to clean up, it's amazing. I don't understand why it works for me and not for others, but I love this cat litter! It is the best I have used. It is weird but I don't get the smell of the litter box that I used to get with the scoopable litter. The only thing I don't like is that the cat poop doesn't really get "covered". Because the pellets tend to roll off as the poop dries. I feel that I should remove more litter than I am actually picking up with the poop for odor control. So I scoop up adjacent pellets that look perfectly fine for good measure. Also, the urine, I don't see anything clumpy... where does it go? There are a few pellets that seem to disintergrade so I guess that is where some of the urine is... but it absolutely does not smell. I couldn't beleive it so I had to come online to read other reviews. Imagine my surprise to see bad reviews! I will not use any other litter. Oh and I forgot, minimal tracking and is very easy to sweep a few pellets, and the floor is clear.

my cats kept picking this out of the box and eating it. it worked okay, but eventually just reeked of urine unless completely emptied every few days.

I bought this recently. It was recommended by my vet after both my kittens were declawed. At first, both my kittens and I were skeptic. I doubted its odor absorbency potential and they were nervous of the new material. They held their bowls in for several days until they could not take it anymore. After they used it, they realized it was safe. Now it has been a week and they are completely used to it. Pro's 1. I find it has great oder absorbency. I scoop out my litter once a day, and with this product there is little smell. 2. No tracking, unlike the clay litter which has soaked into my carpet 3. Softer on paws, these pellets will not enter any type of wounds 4. Environmentally friendly 5. dust free Con's 1. Feces is visible, can't be buried 2. Cost If cost is not your issue, I highly recommend this product. :)

We had a cat with severe asthma, and after switching to YN cat litter, from clumping clay, the asthma went away completely. We also find that it burns just fine in our Swedish tile stove, especially if we make a nice bed of wood coals first, which drives the moisture out of the pee and poo. Saves the $1.50 per 35 lb. bag fee at the recycling center and saves wood & oil as well. A win-win!

Yesterday's News is terrible. We put it in the litter boxes after our two kittens were declawed. They wouldn't poop or pee on this litter for days. Finally, out of desperation, they did a little bit. But I know they did not feel comfortable doing their business on this type of litter. The litter did not absorb any of the odors. The room smelled awful. Also, it's hard to scoop. The particles are too big for most litter scoops. The kittens had a hard time buying their poop with this litter, as well. After using this litter once, our kittens wouldn't do it again. They bottled it up for a few more days. I felt so bad! We were supposed to wait 10 days before switching back to regular litter, but they began yowling and moaning. We made the executive decision to put regular litter in their boxes and they went immediately. I didn't know a cat could hold it in so long! I will never use this litter again.

Yesterday's News Cat Litter - Scented / Soft Texture Likes: My kitten likes the scented and soft texture type.. Claims to be close to dust free.. Recycled Paper material.. Good for after surgeries etc.. Cons: Kitten has a hard time covering her jobs.. Regardless of type of litter. I've had a few bags with dust looking floating particles can be seen upon pouring etc.. Pellets do come out even with an open lid.. Sometimes loud..

This cat litter is great! I started to use it when my kitten had surgery because he would not use the litter box with shredded newspaper. I was unsure at first, but it turned out to be the best litter choice at the time. Odor control was not an issue - although this litter isn't as "fresh" smelling as scoopable litters, odor in the house is not a problem as long as you scoop the litter box often, which I do no matter what type of litter is in the box. If your house smells while using this litter, then you're not scooping the box enough. You cannot remove the urine from the box, but it dries up quickly and settles at the bottom of the box in dust form. After my kitten healed I switched back to scoopable litter and I'm sorry I did. He didn't take well to the transition but has gotten used to now. If I wasn't so afraid of switching his litter again, I'd go back to Yesterday's News! The only reason I am giving this one star is b/c of the "green" factor. When I brought my kitten home from surgery, my vet and I agreed to protect her little paws, this would be best. Since there was not enough time between her needing surgery, and me bringing her home, I did not have time to "phase" it into use as the package suggests. I have 3 cats. The kitten did not mind this product, but the other cats decided they would rather use my BED in protest. This product is not easy to scoop. There is NO odor control. AND - the cats did not seem to bury their poop! I found myself cleaning the box twice a day. Yes, it did absorb the urine in a sense. It would disolve the pellets into a powder, which filtered itself to sit at the bottom of the box causing the wonderful smell of ammonia to bless my home. Bottom line? I switched back to clay litter as quickly as I was able to without damazing my kitten's health!

No more litter tracking throught the house which I really love. It last through the week. Good odor control. Down side is cost. Much too high.

This litter is terrible! The odour is horrific... My cat spreads the little pellets ALL over the floor. It is quite expensive too, I found, considering it has to be completely dumped every few days (You can't just pull out the soggy pellets, like you scoop out the clumps of clay litter) I am not impressed at all.... now I am just trying to use this huge bag as fast as I can so I can go back to clay! Oh, and it claims to be 3x more absorbant - HA! NO! I did a test with 1/8 cup of both clay and Yesterday's News mixed with 1/2 cup water (separately) and within a minute the clay had completely absorbed all the water (not an ounce to spare) and the the newspaper is still sitting there... slightly larger, but still tons of water and that was 1/2 hour ago.... Now I have to wait until Monday until their office is open so I may demand my money back!(I only gave one star because I had to to submit!)

I have also just tried Yesterday's News after my cat had surgery. I have 3 cats & they all seemed to have no problems adjusting to using this litter instead of the scoopable. I didn't find any odor at all with this litter. I also like the fact that there is no dust & it doesn't track all over the house. In the past with the scoopable I was constantly sweeeping the bathroom floor. Since it absorbs the urine, I find that it stays cleaner than the scoopable in between cleanings. I usually clean the litter box several times a day. I also find it hard to scoop out the wet litter. And yes, much of the good litter gets thrown out also. In this case not sure how expensive this will be to use. I am still not sure if I will go back to the scoopbale litter or continue to use this litter.

I am currenty using Yesterday's News while my kitten is recovering from her surgery. I think it's an awful product. The smell is horrendous so the box needs to be changed completely more often. Shredded paper would have worked as well as this over-priced product. Also, Yesterday news stains carpets. My cat kicked a bunch of pellets onto the carpet. Her regular litter is easy to clean up. I would just vacuum. This litter is crushed by the weight of a vacuum and is then a charcoal ink stain on your carpet. Awful product.

We were given a free bag of this litter by our vet when we brought our new kitten home from the animal shelter. We were given the unscented brand, it does not hide odors at all. Our kitten doesn't seem to mind using it. In about 4days most of the pellets are soggy, and the entire litter box needed to be changed.  1 star for no dust.  1 star because our cat doesn't mind using it.   No stars for odor control.  No stars for easy clean up.  No stars because of cost,  it will need to get changed more often.We are going to give Papurr scoop a try.

This cat litter is great! The cats don't flick it all over and it doesn't smell at all! I love it and I love the fact it si made from recycled newspaper!

As I was reading all the comments I find it confusing how many find that it smells bad and the rest say it did not so which is It? It is one or their other I wish people can decide if it did not smell what did they do to make it not smell if it did smell what did they do to have this happen -I also read on another web site that someone mentioned that recycled news paper has some poisonous residue is this true so how can this be safe ----If any one has any answer on that I would like to know-- I change from clay to wheat but want to try yesterdays news but with what i read not so good the wheat works well but pricey

This has a terrible odor out of the bag. It burns my eyes, sort of like a paint or fuel odor. we used it in the past about 15 years ago and at that time it smelled just like newspaper. They must have changed something. The vet said we have to use it since the cat just had surgery. the cat does not seem to mind the odor. I poured one bag in a box and placed it outside in the sun, hoping that will get rid of the odor.

It's more dust free than clay litter, but I have to completely change it every three days because it starts to smell terribly. I have 2 cats and clean and stir the litter as needed during the day. I also use the baking soda in the bottom of the pan trick which helps. But this product is priced ridiculously high and is now $14.99 per bag, up from $9.99 a year ago. Since I use 1 bag per week, about $800 per year for cat litter is out of the question and I've switched back to clay. I think that Purina is ripping us off--how expensive can making cat litter out of recycled newspaper be?

I normally use arm & hammer, but decided to try this so my mud room wouldn't be covered in dust as it is with my old litter. The Ammonia smell from the urine almost knocks me out when I go into that room using Yesterday's news. At first you do not smell the odor until your cat is using it for a while, then forget about it! Trying to remove the urinated pieces of newspaper is difficult as well without throwing away unused portions. I am switching to Feline Pine and if that doesn't work on odors then I will unfortuately have to go back to having a dusty mud room!

This is the worst I have ever used. It doesn't clump so you must empty it completely in order to clean it. The only reason they can say that Vets recommend it is because it must be used immediately after de-clawing a cat.

This is the greatest product I have ever used. I used to have cat litter residue all over my house -- with this product, there is none! There are no allergy problems with this product. I recently switched to due to my cat might have asthma and we need something dust free. The product is good for the environment, handles odor reasonably, minimal tracking but first my cat doesn't really like it, have to mix in some old litter for now. Secondly the fact that it doesn't clump and the size of it's pellets making it very difficult to remove waste without removing lots of clean pellets. MCK42297, how is the A & H Super Scoop? Is it dusty? Thanks

OK, so here is my comment. As far as odor goes, it is great. It really just kind of smells like wet newspaper. It is also awesome as far as the dust and stuff doesn't get everywhere. I used it after my cats were neutered and they took to it with no problem. What I don't like about it is that there is no way to really clean out the box that easily. The pellets are large, so a regular scoop doesn't really work. The bottom of the box is what tends to get a little soggy and there is no way to clean this well. Other than this, I really liked it, but for that reason, I have returned to Arm & Hammer Super Scoop.

This stuff has poor odor control. You can still smell the odor through the house. My cat doesn't like unless she just has to use it. She leaves me friendly little messes telling me that she doesn't like it.

Compared to everything else this litter is a God send....Traps all odors and cleanup from any oversspill is nice and east...does not trait through out the entire area since its a larger granual. My vet reccomended it when my cat was a kitten, 2 years ago, and we've been using it ever since. Maybe hard for older cats to adjust since they can be fussy. Friends cat took a while to adjust , 3 yr old, but they just mixed it gradually with the previous brand liter over a perior of a couple months...Again...this stuff is great.

I love this litter. I started using it when my youngest cat had surgery on his paw. My two cats took a liking to it so much that when I attempted to go back to the normal litter, they wouldn't use it. There is next to no odor with this. Of course you need to keep up on cleaning it like you would anything else. It's clean and easy to clean out the litter box and you don't get that stinky amonia odor with it at all. I will NEVER go back to normal litter again.

This litter smells right out of the bag! Worse when the cats "use" it. Tracks all over the place. Would recommend another eco-friendly litter.

I received a coupon from Stop & Shop for this litter and bought it. All I have to say is Wow! There is absolutely no odor. While I cleaned the litter out daily, I didn't need to replace the litter for two weeks. If I can get it, I won't buy anything else.

I have never used this for a cat. However, this was PERFECT for my ferrets. I used it in their whole cage and put extra in the litter box in the corner. It worked great! My vet said it is one of the only things that is safe for animals...especially ferrets.

I'm using this for show rabbits that have to be raised indoors due to extreme heat. They have used it for 5 days now and there is no odor. Another lady I know that raises rabbits indoors swears it works for up to one week. With "5" rabbits in one pen, I give this product a big thumbs up.

My cats' veterinarian recommended this litter for Mouse, who has a wounded paw. True, at first our three cats were very sceptical, especially Oki - the Litter Queen. However, even Oki accepted it, and I am impressed by the lack of odour and dust. I am considering switching completely to Yesterday's News.

This litter is absolutely WONDERFUL for those of us with small and exotic pets! It holds odor much better than aspen and even carefresh, and it's not toxic to our pets like cedar and pine are! All in all, my rats and mice rate it as number one!

This cat litter seems enviro-friendly, being made of old newspapers, which makes it absorbent as well. The problem, however, is that even with just one use, it smells. And, even after one use, cats don't seem to enjoy using it at all... and may even wait for you to change it fresh again. Cost wise it seems good. These qualities make it excellent for outdoor kennels and litter areas... but poor for indoor ones.

The new softer version is really nice for our 4 cats, the original seems a little sharp
