I always tried to catch it when it was in initial run. As stated by others the Thanksgiving/turkey episode was the best. All these years later I remember when Mr. Carlson thought that a package of cocaine was foot powder and then he beat his foot with his shoe to wake it up when he found out his mistake. A great ensemble cast and at least with a bad episode you still had Loni Anderson to look at.

This show was laugh out loud funny and was one of those rare shows that had a tremendous ensemble cast that all played their roles to perfection. There were several episodes that still stick in my mind. "As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly... " A great show and very underrated.

For those who didn’t like this show, try to catch one of the following episodes: The one mentioned the most: Thanksgiving/Turkey episode. Less in front of the store is hilarious. The “Scum of the Earth” rock group they sponsor. I bought the DVD even though its cut up and the song license issue…still too funny! The three guys who play the British rock band are just wonderful! The other mentioned episode with the State Patrol doing the drunk driving test and Johnny improving until he sees the pig in the lobby. Venus though to me steals the scenes he’s in when drunk… like trading hats with the cop. One of the early episodes when Mr. Carlson goes into the booth while Johnny is on the air. Johnny is sitting back, eyes closed listening to “Animals” by Pink Floyd. Mr. Carlson questions “Are those sheep?” Johnny answers “sounds like it to me…”. You have to see it to get the joke… And of course Johnny’s famous “BOOOGARRR” yell. This show didn’t change much, even when actors l... Read more

Never missed it when it originally aired. Like most shows I think it stayed around too long. But very good for such a low budget show. Great cast. The writing went from very good to goofy at times but always entertaining.

I always liked this show when I needed some lunacy in my busy day. Of course it wouldn't fly today ... but maybe... if the title was "REALITY WKRP" and it was done live with a call-in line for plot hints.

One of my personal favourites of this eara becuse every cast member had his own quirkiness that was allowed to grow. Who didn't want to work at this station.

As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly! That is my favorite quote from the show.  I also enjoyed watching Bailey who was the babe who blossomed during the series. This was good gentle humor and always tickled my fancy.

Bring this into ANY of the networks of today, and see how fast you find yourself out in the parking lot. A midwestern radio station gets a new lease on life when a format switch arrives in the guise of Andy Travis (played with journeyman understatement by Gary Sandy); the station's owner (Sylvia Sidney in the opener, the devilish Carol Bruce from then on) puts probationary conditions on a fiscal turnaround (great plot device, in case of early cancellation), and the show progressed from there, adding an out-of-nowhere cast that instantly gelled (all the good shows are ensembles) with viewers: Gordon Jump's clueless Mr. Carlson calling the shots; Frank Bonner's bootlick lothario salesman Herb Tarlek; the average-as-Iowa-oats Les Nessman of Richard Sanders; Tim Reid's honey-slick Venus Flytrap; Loni Anderson's master receptionist Jen Marlowe; Jan Smithers' yeoman-reliable Bailey Quarters; and, of course, the break-out performance of Howard Hesseman's vagabond burnout Johnny "Dr. Fever" Ca... Insipid, painfully unfunny torture. I give it 2 stars one for each of Lonnie Andersons breasts, this was before her face became a frequent scapel target for plastic surgeons and later tabloid target due to Bert marriage blow out.

I always look back on WKRP with fondness. It was simply a great show. Great characters, great quotable lines, just great period. One of the few TV shows that never jumped the shark. If only the suits would get off their asses and start releasing the uncut episodes onto DVD, I'd be happy. I've never bought a DVD collection of a TV series, but this one I definitely would.

I read where some of you gave this show a bad score. SHAME ON YOU!!! I worked in radio/tv at the time and I DJ'd in nightclubs and I can tell you that this show was about as true to life as a show can be! This show really looked at the silly side of what has been called the lowest form of entertainment...radio. I worked with someone who was exactly like Les Nesman and our very own HERB!! GREAT SHOW

What a classic show. It was very funny. It's a shame that it was taken off TV prematurely. I loved the turkey episode, the show in which Arthur needed foot powder because he had an itch (but what he thought was foot powder was actually cocaine), the episode in which Johnny's reaction time increases with alcohol intake, and the show in which the station gave away $5000 but accidentally gave it to a thief, not to the winner. I also enjoyed the serious shows, such as the one about the stampeding and accidental deaths at a rock concert, the one about free speech and the playing of John Lennon's Imagine, and the award winning episode in which Venus teaches physics to a troubled teen thinking of dropping out of high school. I think that Loni Anderson (jennifer) was one of the most gorgeous and sexy women in the history of television (what a beautiful face! and what magnificent hair!) and Jan Smithers (Bailey Quarters) was also beautiful. I like the fact that WKRP didn't condescend by ma... Read more

Johnny Fever on the midnight show and slowing it up for some Venus Flytrap! Andy and Jennifer, Bailey, Herb Tarleck and Les Nesmond. Sincere good wishes to the family of Mr. Carlson (Gordon Jump). Everyone lived in your television and you visited them every week without fail. They were quirky and loveable, a real family. Loved that show.

WKRP In Cincinnati was (and remains in reruns) a great television series. For the uninitiated, the concept of WKRP is a group of odd and eccentric employees running a struggling AM radio station. Though the series originally concentrated on the station manager Arthur Big Guy Carlson (played by Gordon Jump), program director Andy Travis (Gary Sandy), and morning DJ Johnny Fever Caravella (Howard Hesseman), the writers and producers quickly began to develop the other charters from the shy and beautiful Bailey Quarters (Jan Smithers) to the eternally bandaged news reporter Les Nessman (Richard Sanders). WKRP was successful enough (and became enough of a cult classic) to add phrases into the popular lexicon (eg coveted Silver Sow, I thought turkey could fly, and phone cops). The series also brought the Ginger or Mary Ann debate to a new generation as men had to choose between Jennifer and Bailey. Unfortunately, there is a legal problem with the music that was used during the original ... Read more

This show always reminded me of MTM set in a radio station. Good cast of unknowns.Show was unfocused as episodes were great or duds. The writers tried to force feed Lonnie as a sex symbol. The fighting mascots, flying turkeys and Johnny's sobriety tests will live on.

Thin. Gordon Jump was very good, and so was Richard Sanderson, but the performances of the other characters were either stupid or colorless. Too narrow a format for this one to work, yet there were enough idiots out there watching to keep this tripe on the schedule for years. Jan Smithers was hot, tho...

Herb Tarlek. Les Nessman. Andy Travis. The Big Guy. Bailey Quarters. Venus Flytrap. "Speed kills, Dell." "Its the phone cops, man! Oh sure, COVER for them." "Oh My GOD THEY'RE TURKEYS!!" "And we will have your client-this man-ARRESTED. Night, after night, after night." "What's a fardel?" A fantastic show that was real and surreal at the same time. Another show too good for its network.

WKRP's scripts were almost always intelligently clever, with unusual use of physical comedy (sight gags, etc.) that didn't detract from the story line.

I really like this show (though I didn't see what was so attractive about Loni Anderson with her nutcracker mouth -- but I guess no one was paying much attention to her face). I wish TVLand would bring it back.

Truly an epiphanous event for TV - they actually developed characters instead of contriving lines! This was KRP's secret. The interaction between the characters was the engine of this magical show, and it hasn't been done any better, before or since. Hugh Wilson, the creator of the show, had one perfect idea and it was the characters of WKRP. Thanks, Hugh. We love love you for your vision!

this has to be one of the most underrated sitcoms of the late70's early 80's era. it was very funny but could also be very serious at times without being too heavy. great cast. loved all the characters equally. very memorable theme song. favorite episode was the one where they played softball. and of course the one with turkeys falling out of the sky. classic les nessman

Anyone who thinks that WKRP was not a great show, was not around when it first aired in 1978. It was, and still is a wonderful, enjoyable part of television. It lives on on video, (I have all the episodes on video. How I wish that I could turn back the clock and relive those days again! What a sad day when they cancelled WKRP. I am still a fan of all the stars, and collect WKRP stuff.

In its long history, CBS never mishandled any show as monstrously as it did this one. It was probably the best show on their schedule all four years it was on the air--but where on the schedule was it? From one month to the next you never knew.

I definately appreciate this gem more now than I did when it was on. I'm sure nostalgia is the main reason I like it so much. The whole cast was great but my two favorites were Gordan Jump and Jan Smithers. My biggest gripe about the show is I wish they would have had more plotlines with Bailey, In my opinion she was hotter than Loni Anderson.

I liked this show when it was on originally, but like it better now. Although the show was a comedy, it often made a serious point as well. The turkey episode was hysterical, of course. Les Nessman was easy to ridicule, but the episode where he discovered his father was alive and accused of being a Communist showed new facets of his character. Johnny Fever was the guy we'd all love to know, but all the characters had familiar traits, pieces of people we all know. I still enjoy it!
