UPDATE: In the United States, Canada and most of Western Europe, Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press are taken as fundamentals to democracy, and yet despite the fact that they are entrenched in the constitutions of many contries they are under constant attack. Wikileaks has taken those freedoms and basically globalized them by structuring a media on a platform that knows no borders. Effectively freedom of expression and the media were being brought to places that had never held any pretence of allowing them. Sadly, the discussion as to whether this is progress and if it is of value to mankind has been set aside. Instead the issue has become about a personality, Julian Assange, and we are getting coverage about his sex life, his upbringing, his whereabouts, his general character and on and on. It's titillating but completely unimportant. But it’s much easier to get a handle on in the 45 second attention span of the news business and its audience. Too bad freedom of spe... Read more

As far as the content of the releases, I don't know. As far as the arrogant mope who has released all this stuff, I say: shoot his pecker off. Then he can go through life wondering how to handle the penis deal and he might forger about other stuff.

UPDATE V: Ha! Ha! You're in big trouble now, comrades! http://blogs.computerworld.com/17521/espionage_act_ makes_felons_of_us_all UPDATE IV: Need more proof that the charges against Assange are total BS? http://www.alternet.org/story/149143/report:_assang e%27s_swedish_sex_crimes_accuser_flees_to_middle_ea st,_may_not_be_cooperating_with_police/ UPDATE III: Looks like bad news for the free internet; by free I mean being able to post what you want, when you want. The "hacker" attacks on corporations look mighty suspicious, as well as how congress whipped out legislation so quickly, a "Patriot Act for the Internet" that the just happened to have on hand... http://www.activistpost.com/2010/12/breaking-wikileaks-being-used-to.html UPDATE II: Yep, I thought I smelled a skunk. There's some funny things going on. God save this angel called Julian Assange. Keep him safe. OUTRAGEOUS COMMENT. There are millions of very shameful hollowly classified documents about the pentagon, the US states department, or Hillary Clinton policies thereof I supposed. All will be one day revealed. They are excruciatingly shocking, full of horrific child play foreign policies, and I'm sure Julian Assange is not alone in this odyssey. Many of these highly Clinton guarded docs are fictitiously unbelievable to comprehend. Someone said that there will be many lives put at risk? No, I think Mr. Assange will be saved from that threats made by Clinton. In fact the US will risk more public humiliating expose, thus resulting either in it's usual sung suicidal war, or relinquish the international leadership forever. Some of these involve the communication that takes place between Washington, US states department, and the CIA office around 24 hours every week and the black market thugs operating around the world. These are ... Read more

I think it is very amusing that people think that internal calls and messages from governments should be seen by all! Please certain things whether we like it or not should be out on the public eye! It seems to me that those protesting the act of secret or not secret, have never been in a position of trust! The world is a fickle place and no government is the same. Some want money, trade, import and export (the list could go on.) but the fact is no leader has the same moral upbringing and so things are done in different ways to achieve certain goals That is how business is done! I'm not saying its right or that I agree with it. But let’s be fair things go on and they should be left alone!!! I really could not care less about secret or not secret cause every government covers things up anyway! Just like all governments control certain aspect of life good or bad! Do we really need more gossip in this world, doesn’t ET dish out enough of that!

Both Repubs and Dems are coming out in favor of some kind of censorship, thus the forth star. A made up crisis that I hope goes to waste.

I wasn't paying attention to this before as I found that the documents "leaked" were not really of any surprise. What got my ears pricked is the fact I find it incredibly coincidental that Julian Assange has now been refused bail and subsequently jailed for a suspected sexual offence allegations right about the same time as the wikileaks released "classified" documents. Maybe it's just me, but something doesn't seem right here.

Lots of people are making big talk but it seems to have amounted to nothing. The USA got an important trade deal done with South Korea just days after the leak, and the world goes on as normal. I think it's become more about Julian Assange's ego. I mean I am for freedom of information of course, I just think it's clear it's more about him now than anything else. Yes the USA is obviously corrupt in some or maybe many areas but the fact that almost all of the leaks come from the USA is proof that our society is indeed more open and negotiable than any other in the world. I would be more impressed if they could leak documents from communist countries like Russia (to be fair Russia is now a mix of capitalism and it's old communist elements) and China, or dictatorships like Iran. Now THAT would be living up their 'individual over industry' mantra, but until that happens it's my opinion that Assange is at least a little bit, full of crap.

Seems to be an ongoing story this year. The most recent document dump was their largest and most comprehensive by far. The US government is feigning outrage over this incident, but they're, in my view, playing a double game here. At its core, this is nothing but a very shrewd propaganda effort aimed against their enemies, starting most notably with the Iranians (especially in regards to their supposed nuclear program), the Chinese and to a lesser extent the Russians. The information contained within these cables is definitely nothing new, or nothing that isn't in the public domain, but it establishes that the US government is at an loggerheads with those powers. No surprise there. They're calling this the "9/11 of international diplomacy". People tend towards hyperbole, but I wouldn't characterize it on such extreme terms. Much of what was contained within those docs are things that are well known and understood. Yes, we already know that the US government, especially u... Read more

It seems like there are a lot of sensitive documents in the latest edition of Wikileaks. Apparently, all you need is a flash drive, and a Lady Gaga cd. Personally, I don't really have the attention span for this stuff, but that's for most political stuff.

Look, all I'm gonna say is that if I was still in the military and had leaked stuff to these assholes, I'd expect to be breaking rocks in Leavenworth for TREASON. UPDATE: Leakers and other fuckers aside, what the hell is really in these documents, anyways? I did a looking and fuck me, it was shit I already knew or at least could have guessed. The Saudis play ball with people that dislike Iran? Shocking. China is sick of propping up North Korea and would agree to unification under Seoul's leadership? Astounding. I'm going to downgrade this shit to a two and advise all these fucks to watch their asses. If you think that they're not just dying to make an example out of them for "breaching sensitive material" (low grade though it may be) you need to be more pessimistic, kids. Damn I'm glad I check up on shit...

You can shove the faces of the stooopid sheeple into a huge bowl of reality and rub their noses in it but they will refuse to see the truth. Our nation has become the evil giant of the world and it is all about oil and greed. Our military die for the drug and oil cartels that are owned by the crooked banksters. I hope they rot in hell. The sheeple and lemmings damn deserve what they will be getting very soon. I am not sure about the intentions of 'leaks' or if this is just a planned ploy to shut down the internet. I hardly thing that is needed since most sheeple will believe what Big Brother tells them.
