Fri Oct 09 2009Come on.Has anyone ever really told their boss any of the following truths: 1)It was either call out or another "disgruntled employee guns down manager/co-workers" headline, 2)"I was hung over", or, 3)"I had better plans than another day in THIS hellhole." ?

Fri Oct 09 2009I don't lie when I call in sick; if I don't want them to know why I'm not going in, I just don't tell them. As long as you aren't going over your alloted sick time it's really none of anyone's business why you're out. I used to hate getting sick calls and having to listen to long, overly detailed explanations. If you're giving a big song and dance, your boss knows you're lying. Just say "I'm not coming in" and shut the hell up. I do, however, have to lie to my parents. Because even though I am an adult they still think I'm 15. I have to listen to lectures and answer 10 million questions. So sometimes I have to lie. It's for my dad's own good! He worries too much and it's not good for his health.

Sat Aug 02 2008I enjoy working and don't like to miss often. When I do miss it is for legitimate reasons, so I have no problems telling the boss the truth.

Wed Jul 30 2008I always tell the truth. "To be honest, I had a couple of job interviews yesterday, because I think you're a lousy boss and I hate working here. I'm also looking for something with better pay and benefits. Wish me luck!"

Wed Jul 30 2008Depends...Alot of jobs allow "sick days" They are not really sick lol. I have done it when I was younger. It was a job I didnt care much about, and didnt really need.

Tue Jul 29 2008This is another one of those tricky ones...usually if you ask you will get the book of reasons from me, however if I feel like you will judge where I've been, I will become tightlipped about everything....

Mon Jul 28 2008Sometimes you just don't want to go into detail about these things

Mon Jul 28 2008Assuming than an employer is stupid enough as to not know most of the excuses for not going to work or being late is self deceiving. I believe that honesty might pay. "I overslept" might work much better than "I got caught in the traffic" or "had a flat tire". Employers love honesty, and lying to them is insulting.

Sun Jul 27 2008No one will have to lie about this when the day comes that an employer accepts, "I just didn't feel like coming in today. Bite me."

Thu Jan 18 2007I called in to work once because my vehicle was stuck in the middle of the desert and had to go get it. True story! While out 4 wheeling, a bolt came loose from the camshaft and fell into the engine putting a dent in the exhaust valve, not allowing the engine to properly fire, thus not giving me enough power to climb up the hills.

Thu Mar 02 2006I live with my grandmother; who believes that any health condition I have is all in my mind, even though I've had physicals that prove otherwise. I have lied to her about why I didn't go to work on a particular day because she likes to rant about what would have happened to her, in her youth, if she acted the way I do. I love her, but I really don't want to listen to her over this, especially since she isn't a doctor and couldn't be for certain that I was faking something to get out of work. Usually I feel bad as it is, 1) because I am feeling bad and 2) because I actually like to work and hate putting them in a bind over it. I don't need her making me feel worse about it all.

Thu Mar 02 2006Rarely, but I've done it. I know I'm totally dedicated to my job when, despite aches and illness which would normally keep me in bed, I'll still drag myself to work. That's how I know I'm in the right job now.
