For some reason, I always get in a good mood when I hear 'goin' mobile.'  It's definitely a good road trip song.  'Who's Next?'

A brilliant band who at their peak were uncomparable to any other band when they had Keith Moon they had one of the greatest bands of their time.A little side story about how Keith Moon got on their band. They were playing at some club and Keith who was in the audience started yelling at their drummer saying that he sucked and he was a better drummer so they brought him on stage and found that he was alot better then ther drummer so they fired their drummer on the spot and hired Keith.

Definitely a great band.

Not all their records work for me, but the good ones are so magnificent, THE WHO still deserve a *5*.

A BIG part of the "British Invasion" of the mid 60's!  Peter Townsend rocked on guitar, Keith Moon was legenday  on the drums and Roger Daltry was awesome lead man!  They cranked out some great toons for many years!!

I saw them live in 1969 BEFORE Tommy,when Moon was still functional-just amazing.

I'm always amazed when I hear people criticise bands like The Beatles or The Who. Even if your personal tastes like music different from The Who, there is no denying that they had a huge influence on rock and have been one of the top 5 bands played on FM rock stations the past 40 years.

Ruined by Townshend's limited guitar ability.

With Pete Townshend any band would be above average. So many great, great hits by this group; Too numerous to list.

Roger Daltrey is a very good and versatile vocalist and performer. All together a great frontman. With the exception of very few of their tracks, they're not really my thing. I can see their appeal though.

Great frontman and excellent succession of drummers over the years. Not over impressed by the rest of the band unfortunately.

Please let me know when they learn to play a third tune

One of the top 10 acts of all time.

They were OK, but Townshend was a VERY weak lead guitarist

At their best, they produced some of the finest rock music ever played. At their worst they could be pretty mediocre. Some damn good stuff, particularly live.

Some terrific and memorable songs. . .

Badly overrated. Had their moments though, but were crippled by Townshend's ego.

One of the basic food groups at the top of the Rock and Roll pantheon along with the Beatles, The Stones and Led Zeppelin. Moon was the greatest drummer ever, Entwistle the best bass player, Townshend was a monster of heavy leads, vibrant rhythms and nearly as great a song writer as Ray Davies (which makes me wonder where the Kinks are on this list?) and Daltry roared like a lion on stage. What a band! What an act! What a thrill it was to see them and how I thank them for adding to the soundtrack of my life. This scoring system really should go up to ten. How could this band rate any lower than that?

Pete Townshend was a great songwriter, but I never found The Who as compelling as The Beatles or the Rolling Stones.

Mention the WHO to most folks, and there's this moment of silence, then the grudging acceptance of a group that's actually one of the best all-timers. They got that way by playing live until their eyes crossed. Entwistle was on a different plane, and Moon's style is still being studied (and not believed). Pound for pound, one of the greats.

High voltage energy. Sheer emotion. The inventors of both hard rock and punk rock. Need I say more? One of the most moving voices and powerful guitarists, one of the best bassists and one of the best (and most insane) drummers. No one could make a 5-minute+ song be so good. Nobody can touch The Who.

The Who was one of the leaders of the British Invasion of the mid 1960's, but unlike some of the band's contemporaries, they continued to have considerable success primarily due to innovative experimentation, which allowed the band to survive through the prog rock early to mid 1970's and beyond. I need not go into Moon's aerobic style of drumming, Townshend's whirlwind guitar, or Daltrey's bombastic vocal stylings, but Entwistle deserves some special note as the Who featured the bass more so than most of the other bands of that era, even having the bass play the lead on some occasions (eg Boris The Spider and The Quiet One, if memory serves). With such a lengthy catalog of full-length releases, what is needed is one 'box set' or a short series of compilations covering (say) three different time frames. The best drummer (Keith Moon), the best bass player (John Entwistle), the best guitarist/songwriter (Pete Townshend) and the best leather lungs, gravel-ly, screaming rock vocalist (Roger Daltrey)

The best band ever. Sorry Beatles Fans. These guys exuded a creativity and musical excellence that the Beatles never achieved. This is the band that started punk not the Ramones, the Ramones just bettered the formula. Smashing guitars and using feedback is the essence of punk rock. The Who brought strange tales of alienation years before anyone else. Pictures of Lily, My Generation, and The Real Me are perfect exapmles. Quadrophenia remains the definative teen agnst album and in my opinion it is still the best rock record ever made.
