Sun Jan 13 2013West Chelsea Veterinary 248 West 26th Street New York, NY 10001 Dr Farber & Dr Mlekoday are excellent, staff friendly and helpful. They have taken care of our 3 Rottweilers with skill and compassion - I highly recommend. I can't say they are cheap, but as the saying goes, "you get what you pay for". We love them.

Tue Jan 13 2009I switched my cat to West Chelsea after a negative experience with another neighborhood vet, and I couldn't be happier that I did. Dr. Halligan and Dr. Mlekoday are fantastic, and the staff and techs can't be beat. Some of my favorite points: 1. They never rush through exams, and always take the time to answer questions. 2. They also call promptly with test results and will spend as much time as you need on the phone to talk them through and understand them. 3. They're extremely compassionate. 4. They always have taken the time to discuss what course of action would be best for MY particular cat, and have focused on his best interests and quality of life above all else. 5. They've never tried to sell products or services--when they've recommended treatment for my cat, I've always known it was because it was the best option, not because they wanted to make money. 6. They always return phone calls quickly if you contact them with a concern about your pet. 7. If your pet has... Read more

Fri Mar 07 2008I have to start off by saying that I'm a completely neurotic pet-owner. I have 2 dogs (1 Yorkie & 1 Maltese) that are very tiny and sometimes causes me to be over-protective! My Yorkie and I went in to see Dr. Burdon for a simple case of stomach virus. Dr. Burdon took her time examining Bailey, was extremely gentle and patiently answered all of my questions. Dr. Burdon has a genuine love and passion for animals as evidenced by her actions. When I called a few days later with more questions, she called me back within a few hours. My experience with West Chelsea was truly 5 star from the reception desk, veterinary assistants to the doctors. We have seen Dr. Cohen (housecalls only) as well and he was just as great. Oh yes, and lets not forget about price... I was expecting to spend a minimum of $250- Imagine my surprise when the bill came to only $100 for the visit and the meds!

Tue Mar 04 2008I expect to pay more in New York City as rents are higher but these prices are outrageous. I have had pets all my life and have never been charged so much for so little care. I took my cat to be groomed and they sedated her without telling me. They apologized but still charged for the sedation. I took my cat for a sick visit at which time bloodwork was done and turned out to be "perfect." Three weeks later she went in for her annual exam and they did bloodwork again that was completely unneccessary. Now they want $475 for a basic teeth cleaning (not including extractions) for a cat that has never had problems with her teeth and lets me brush her teeth at home with a little toothbrush. Sounds like a cat that need to be sedated for a bath, right?

Thu Feb 01 2007The Animal Hospital of Chelsea is a force in Manhattan animal care. I have been burned by four vets in New York City, but Dr. Pagano is truly ethical and highly capable. If you?re at the end of your tethers and need someone who will not bs you, go here.

Mon Jan 29 2007My dog has a lot of health problems, and after trying a few different vets in our neighborhood we finally found Jennifer Mlekoday at West Chelsea. She is everything you could ask for in a vet: smart, caring, conscientious. And she seems to really, really love animals. We've had Dr. Shumacher (SP?), too, and she was awesome.

Fri Dec 08 2006I am a first time dog owner and I went to West Chelsea as instructed by my breeder. I had gone there to get a full checkup for my Yorkie. They spent about 5 minutes with my puppy and told me that he was fine. I started to ask questions about puppies and training and her response was "we have trainers numbers at the front desk that can help you". And after spending over $100, left with no other information and for a 5 minute visit. About a month later I took my puppy back to see if he had an ear infection since he seemed to be scratching so much. She looked into his ear, prescribed an ear drop for $40 and also had to pay another checkup fee. Came out to about $100 again. I should have known better from the first visit. His ear infection did not go away. I ended up taking him to a groomer and was told by the groomer that his ear infection was caused by the hair that should have been removed by the vet. The vet did not tell me this. all she did was prescribed him ear drops that he did not... Read more
