Wed Jun 13 2007A masterpiece, artistically and musically, and easily the most depressing, numbing collection of songs ever assembled on an album. Roger Waters apparently felt the need to put his own personal pyschotherapy session to music, and while the end result is genius, I for one prefer something a little more upbeat to listen to.

Thu Jul 20 2006I wish I couldve seen the wall live...I saw Pink Floyd later without Waters and it was still a great show...but back the album. It was genious really. Ok so Waters was a little self pitying, he had a tough childhood and it made for good rock music!!!

Sat May 13 2006One good track does not make a great album.

Mon Mar 27 2006This album is a complete masterpeice. Without any conventional diologue it succesfully tells the story of a drugged out-burnt out musician, his construction of a symbolic wall around his feelings brick by painful brick, his gradual descent into the nightmares of the darkest recceses of his mind, climactic inner trial, and rebirth as a new person with a greater understanding of himself. Yes, it's depressing, but no it does not suggest that the hero (or anti hero as some think) is the only person to ever feel depressed and alienated. Quite the opposite actually. We aren't really supposed to sympathize with him since he does ask himself if he "has been guilty all this time" and some of his wounds are self inflicted. The last song on the album is a departure from the main character that adresses the listener. It says quietly (and almost inaudably)"alone or in twos/ the ones who really love you/walk up and down outside the wall" and eventually "...when they've given you their all/some stag... Read more

Sun Dec 11 2005Atmospheric and thoroughly depressing."The Wall" has its moments, for sure-but Pink Floyd has made much more solid albums.

Thu Nov 03 2005You should have seen Pink Floyd perform the wall live. I saw it in NYC in Feb. 1980. It was just awesome. They built a wall while playing the songs. Then at at end they had an airplane crash the wall down.

Mon Jul 25 2005This album was great but foreshawdoing of the bands eventual split. Comfortably Numb is one of the greatest songs in rock history, oh and dont give me this crap about Roger Waters is just a whiny baby and other people feel depressed and have lost loved ones too. OK, those people need to make an album that sell 23 million copies then i might admit Roger is just a baby.

Fri May 13 2005I have worn out more copies of the Wall than any other album/cd... I've got the DVD, etc... Huge fan of the music. I dont think the movie (geldof!) does the music justice, but the animations are awesome. The music is good, but if you really get inside Pink, it's a trip you'll ride for years. Superb.

Sun Sep 12 2004I don't think The Wall is aging well, but it is a must-have album. . .perfect end-of-the-seventies cynical album. Good conceptual rock album. Of course, the movie was a real crazy trip. . .

Thu Aug 05 2004Great album...but not as good as Darkside of the Moon or Animals.

Sat Mar 13 2004This album is the culmination of an idea that began with Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here. It is pure genius!!! The lyrics, the chords, the song structure, the theme, the images... they all come together to convey an important message: don't let the pressure of society, your past, and even your present status as a rock star (in the case of the fictional Pink), separate you from those that really care, as well as from yourself and your dreams. It will only lead to maddness! Yet, the Wall also tells us that there is a way out of this madness, tear down the wall. Depressing but true. Also, musically, one of the most perfect concept albums ever recorded!

Sun Jan 04 2004One of the best albums of all times. Layered and sophisticated, a rock opera for the ages. Some of the best lyrical content ever. Definatly in my top 5 all time album list. Recommended.

Thu Jan 01 2004The album that, if I was on a deserted island, I would have with me. (But, how would I play it?)

Wed Nov 26 2003The Wall is a complete exercise in self-indulgence. We are supposed to believe that the protagonist of these overproduced dirges is the only person on the planet who has ever felt depressed and alienated. Surprise! Millions of people feel this way-that's why God invented antidepressants. Listen to this record in an intoxicated state, and you will find it a revelation.

Tue Nov 25 2003Released in 1979, The Wall is essential for any Pink Floyd fan; however, it is full of the excesses of Roger Waters as this double length effort is essentially a rock opera. As other comments have noted, the concept of the album is a neurotic rock singer who is obsessed with the early death of his father and the forced socialization of people into culture, eventually leading him to shut out the rest of the world. Despite the limitations of a rock opera, the release does include some of Pink Floyd's most notable songs, including Another Brick In The Wall (parts 1, 2 & 3), Young Lust, Hey You, Comfortably Numb, and Run Like Hell. Some of the other better, less played tracks include Goodbye Blue Sky and Empty Spaces. Nevertheless, notwithstanding the strength of some of the individual singles, The Wall remains a full-length experience as each track segues into the next, pausing only to allow the listener to flip the old vinyl format. The end result is a mixed bag, a joy to those who ... Read more

Wed Sep 03 2003The majority of this album reminds me of huge amounts of negativity, which I do not need or would I recommend to someone else. It is a big downer, and I think rock and roll should be all about fun. And I would definately say stay away from the movie titled the same. Pure garbage posing as artistic expression. Yuck.

Sun Apr 06 2003An incredible album! One of the most creative albums ever known to man! A modern masterpiece!

Sun Feb 16 2003This album is GENIUS!!! While the majority of the songs on the album are, to me, mediocre at best, the album itself is probably the most brilliant I've ever listened to. It is a narrative album, telling the story of a bordering-washed-up rock star with some mental problems. He builds a psychological barricade and keeps out everyone, including his mother and wife, to the point where they don't know him any longer. Another Brick in the Wall (parts 1-30) is a great song, and part 2 is the most famous Pink Floyd song of all. And the climax, The Trial, is a brilliant, trippy piece of music that sounds disturbingly Disney-like. This album, like Dark Side, needs to be listened to all the way through with a stereo (or headphones if you don't have one), but it is twice as good as Dark Side.

Mon Feb 03 2003The Wall is a good album. The "Another Brick in the Wall" saga along with Comfortably Numb are the main standouts from the album. The album also features "Hey You" and "Empty Spaces," along with "Young Lust." I guess it just shows that the greatness of DSOTM couldn't be replicated.

Sat Feb 01 2003They are a great band. This is a great album, albeit not the best album, but still a great one. Based on a fictional character, Pink Floyd, it shows how he builds a wall from the outside world. It goes from his childhood (In the flesh?), to how the teachers at school abused him(Happiest Days of our Lives, ABITW #2), to his love life (Young Lust), a call for help (Hey You, and Is there anybody out there), the world of acid and psychadelic drugs his succombs to (Comfortably Numb), and how he turns into a facist in the end. It is beautifully crafted, the lyrics are some of the best ever(thanks Waters) and Gilmour has a great solo in Comfortably Numb.

Thu Dec 26 2002Whats does Dale Earnhardt and Pink Floyd have in common? THEIR LAST HIT WAS THE WALL!
by klark_kent
Sat Dec 07 2002Overindulgent Waters project with the band nearly reduced to sidemen (that didn't happen for real until THE FINAL CUT), but a brilliant failure.

Wed Nov 06 2002What!!!!! Only at 43? Come on people, this is a timeless classic.

Thu Oct 17 2002Great album, dark but good movie, too. It's great how all of the songs innertwine with one another. No other band has pulled off a successful concept album since Sgt. Pepper.

Fri Jun 14 2002A awesome compilation of awesome Pink Floyd songs. Pink Floyd are arguementally one of the best bands that ever walked the earth. The Wall is agreat album, and in my opinion Pink Floyd's greatest album of all time. Roger Waters(lead singer of the band) was inspired by the Berlin wall to write this album. The movie on the other hand was a bit strange, but it would probably be more respected to people that are on drugs. This album includes such hits as "Comfortably Numb", "Mother", "Hey You", "Young Lust", and "Another Brick In The Wall part 2." I can honestly say that this is one of my favorite albums of all time. Each song has a meaning, and each song tells a story.

Fri May 17 2002The Album that should have won Album of the year at the Grammys instead of the one hit wonder Christopher Cross. Roger Waters and Co. created a masterpiece with this album (and to think they were all fighting with each other at the time). We don't get many concept albums today (let alone great rock operas like this one). A very complex and compelling story of one's inner turmoil that everyone faces at many moments of their lives. The songs are incredible separately ("The Trial," "Confortably Numb," etc.) as they are as one. One day, Pink Floyd will be given the total recognition that they deserve for this album.

Sun Nov 25 2001This Cd totally rocked. It has so many great songs, and is simply amazing how they all tie together. You can't simply listen to 1 song and then go on to a new CD. The whole CD begs to be listened to. And every song is absolutely Pink Floyd at their best.

Fri Aug 31 2001By the way, shafty, your comment was way too long. do something else with your time... oh and pink floyd are awesome.

Mon Jul 16 2001The wall is the rock album equivalent of a literary epic like Milton's "Paradise Lost" or a classic Opera like Mozart's "Don Giovanni"! It captures modern humanity's woes with painful accuracy, but also goes deeper, exploring the roots of the bitterness, helplessnes and depression felt by so many. Roger Waters shows us a semi-biographical sketch that is horrific, but also sadly beautiful and understandable. The music is skillfully but never gratuitously dramatic and David Gilmour adds a little bit of softness and melody to soften Waters' more rough-edged tunes and allows the listener to be more easily drawn into the emotion and storyline. The sheer enormousness of the album's theme and skilled artistry of its music and lyrics make this album a classic!

Fri Feb 23 2001Simply stated, one of Roger's greatest, and worst acheivements all rolled up into one great album. He was able to create his most intricate and complex album, but sadly his personal relationship with the rest of the band was severely damaged in the process. All that aside, I LOVE this album. I have both the studio album and the new "Is There Anybody Out There" live album. My preference right now is the live version, and if you haven't got it yet, check it out. You won't be disappointed. The album, tells the tale of Syd and Roger's lives combined into one. How many people out there were able to write an album that had a definite story line (even if it is somewhat hard to follow in places), let alone take two separate story lines and combine them into one fictious rocker with some serious issues? In the end The Wall was probably Roger's finest hour, though there is much to be said of the other albums as well.
by xandrialica
Mon Jan 22 2001This is probably the most typical Pink Floyd album one could think of. The songs are a bit too long for me so I don't like it as much, but I do like Pink Floyd so it gets a 4.

Mon Jan 15 2001An all-time classic, epic. The album and the film are amazing on their own, each has its own special qualities-pain the two together and it is AWESOME!

Mon Jan 15 2001This album is a classic just to relax and have conversation with. It's very stimulating and good background music.
by pimpassmug
Thu Jan 11 2001Pink Floyd was a revolutionary band in the 60's psychadelic rock scene. The Wall cannot be considered their best album, but it is still amazing. The structure of the album is extremely unique in that it tells a story and all the songs tie into each other. See the movie, "The Wall" too!
by superphlyb23
Thu Jan 11 2001Enter the world of Pink Floyd, a rock superstar on the edge of madness, as he delves full into his life to being against his wall. Contains must hear Floyd tracks such as, "Comfortably Numb," and "Mother."
by kid_raver
Mon Jan 08 2001The length of the Cd is great. It's non stop music. The music itself is great. It's hit after hit after hit of a trip like music. Basically it's a high in itself without drugs. The sounds are awesome and Pink Floyd is just the greatest.
