I work there, and i hate it.. the place is dirty, the waitresses don't even really wash the dishes, they are rinsed off with some water, and put through some machine that just washes with hot water, i'm sorry but it just seems pretty gross to me. The waitresses aren't very good at washing down the tables, and the food is extremely greasy. I don't EVER eat while i'm working, i always wait until i get home to eat. I would rather not put that nasty greasy crap in my mouth.... Just sayin'

I will be honest. I am a waitress for Waffle House, and have worked for several. The food is fast and cheap, hence the grease and everything else, it's just like McDonald's but you get to have someone take it to your table. The food prep and cooking is done under rigorous standards. I would also like to point out that some of your "unfriendlier" salespeople are that way usually because days off are rare, and shifts shorter than 10 hours are rarer still. I know I often work a 2p-12a shift simply because we are understaffed. I go home, take care of a family, get up and go back to work, we simply become exhausted. We work for pennies, 2.82 an hour even though most customers assume that we DO make minimum and refuse to tip no matter how much they complain or gripe. If you have a reasonable problem with your food tell your waitress, she'll fix it for you. Don't eat it all, THEN complain to the management. That just makes you look like you just want a free meal. Take all of this into consi... Read more

Jim Gaffigan didn't start it but he didn't help matters either by calling it "Awful House" in his act. T-r-y it, but only if you like the old-time diner experience. If you didn't like it, just keep it to yourself and don't go back. They are not the country club, and they don't try to be. I happen to like the menu, especially breakfast. That is the busiest time of day, and any Waffle House will be at their best before 11 am. Fast, friendly, and inexpensive. I like to watch the wait staff too. They keep me humble. These are simple, hard-working people. They are holding down more than one job, and trying not to let outside issues overwhelm them -- mostly "families and finances".

They should change the name of this place to "Barf en la casa de cuarto de baño". Some say this is good drunk food. Give me cold pizza anyday.

One thing people need to understand when they walk into a Waffle House is a lot of these buildings have been around since the70's 80's early 90s2 etc and since then, have been open 365 days a year 24 hours a day... So, when you see a black smudge on a wall, or rust etc, unless it's in direct contact with your food it's probably a result of age and is in no way detrimental to your meal. Waffle House has company standards and also they have to obey the guidelines of the state in which they are. They also have 2 yearly health inspections like every other restaraunt in the US.. I've personally NEVER seen one fail. They keep thermometers on hand to test the temperature of their food; they seperate meats, eggs, and ready to eat food; and maintain proper cooling temperatures for their ingredients. I have however seen bugs like flies in a Waffle House but it's only natural when the high velocity of customers waffle house sees are constantly in and out of the doors, allowing time fo... I am so tired of WH waitresses getting slammed for how they look, would you rather they work in a strip joint or on the street!?..People act like we're their to serve them hand and foot and we're just objects or better yet SLAVES well guess what!?..We're not, most of us are hard working people, who get paid next to nothing to bring you your food, I am so sick of people not realizing the work involved in keeping a WH clean, we do a crap load of side work, do our own dishes and we get paid 3.65 an hour, so you expect us to please your every whim, your ridiculous, we aren't a 5 star, you should know that when you pull up. On the other hand, yes you should be able to sit down and not see roaches, and your food should be served hot and your waiter/waitress should be mannerly, there is no excuse for that. When you call the hotline (located on their website) the employee's do get in trouble, and most of the time if you are not happy with something they will do their best to fix it (IF YOU A... I like this place. It is not gourmet. If you go in there expecting a gourmet meal, you will be disappointed. The waffles are great, especially the pecan waffle. Bacon is good, and the hashbrowns are awesome! The food is ridiculously unhealthy. You can literally feel your arteries clogging as you eat it. It's a good thing I don't live in the south because I would eat there a few times a week. Whenever I go to Florida or Missouri I make sure to visit one. Even so, I only eat there about once a year or so. I do have to gripe that they don't give real butter for the waffles and I don't think they give real syrup either. However, the waffles are good enough that they don't really need either. And the bathrooms are tiny!!!

My only real problem with these kinds of places is that they specialize in waffles and pancakes, but don't offer real syrup. So, when Stark and I travel and know that we will be at the mercy of these restaurants, we bring our own syrup in with us. She likes blueberry and I like maple. We also bring our own pancakes, waffles, potatoes, toast, coffee and crayons...

I've only ever tried them for breakfast and always found them good.  Never had any other meals there.  I like the way they do their hash browns (covered, smothered, scattered, etc.).  However, I was short-changed by a waitress once at the WH in Jacksonville, North Carolina.  I gave her a $20 and she gave me change for a $10 and swore that's all I had given her.  I had no way of proving othewise, but I know I was right, as I had only $20s in my wallet and no $10s.  I was sure I had seen her slip my $20 down her bosom and take a $10 out of the drawer and lay it sideways, as if that was what I gave her, but I wasn't 100% sure I had seen it and wasn't about to make a scene by asking her to reveal the contents of her bosom.

I don't quite understand the fascination with Waffle House, perhaps because I wasn't subjected to this particular chain as a child. I tried it once in Maryland about 5 years ago...and it seemed sorta like we were paying for a plate of glorified eggos (which I also don't like).

After writing to the corporate office two weeks ago and getting nowhere it prompted me to write my review. This waffle house is located right next to a Best Western Hotel-Eisenhower and Abercorn street,in the heart of Savannah,Georgia. I traveled many miles off of exit 94 on 95. It was the worst dining experience on the road. The food prep area was DIRTY! The service was very UNFRIENDLY! Lot of GOSSIP & LOUD TALKING BETWEEN THE COOK & WAITRESSES! I will NEVER go to this Waffle House again!! Take note!!!!!!

I travel frequently and have seen these establishments all over the place. We don't have them here in southern California and I was completely unfamiliar with them until this past week. Had a conference in Orlando but the very nice hotel was all booked so I stayed at a Howard Johnson (what a freaking dive, but hey, it was 1/10th the price of the Gaylord Palms for a night's stay, so what the heck...) Anyway, got sick as well and didn't feel like going out and spending a fortune on fine dining that I wouldn't even taste nor remember, so I woke up after midnight and ventured over to the nearby Waffle House. Anyone who says they actually like this food is either lying or has never really had anything resembling decent food. But I was hooked. I "ate" there three times over the next three days just for the cultural experience. I felt as if I was doing a science project of sorts, examining the absolute trashiest pieces of humanity, those no doubt responsible for our poor image abroad. Waffle ... Read more

The previous review (by chrismathy) awakens a memory that I thought I had buried.  I ate at these places every day for about two weeks when I worked a primary campaign in Florida many years ago.I was younger then, and food was simply fuel when I was on the road, but these joints stood out in spectacular fashion.  Not only does what they are pleased to describe as food promptly locate itself in your large intestine and take up permanent residence while holding the gastro-intestinal equivalent of a tequila party, it is served in an ambience that would seem unusually squalid in a Mexican jail.Combine this with an array of dining companions who appear to be taking a break from the set of the latest "Cops" episode, and you have one of the most unique dining experiences going.

the food is good when you cook it the right way. i was a cook in the ridgeway store in south carolina. i loved my job. just hated who ran it. i constantly got my weekly grill bonus stole from me. i know the rest were getting theres i saw thereprint outs. the relief manager was working second shift and i was on third. he was dumbing food cost onto my shift to make himself look better. i know how he did it. i did floor audites and saw the pull for the day. so i can see whats going on. not to mention i was making 6.80 for 8 months when i was cooking between 1000 and 1500 every weekend. it took black mail to get a transfer. i thought it was better in blythewood till the manager slept with my fiance and was stealing my bonuses as well. he claims food cost was the issue. our store was number one for two months. food cost was no issue. and then when i left to move back to california he stole my vacation check from me. i received it one week after i left and corporate said it was paid out at t... The Waffle House On West Main Street in Hendersonville Tn. is the FILTHIEST restraunt I have ever seen. After ordering we got to looking around and found the place was DISGUSTING!!!! The dictionary definition of filth is; a. Foul or dirty matter. b. Disgusting garbage or refuse. c. A dirty or corrupt condition; foulness. The Waffle House on West Main Street fits all this criteria.EVERY Waffle house I have been in (the one in White House,Hendersonville and the two in Goodlettsville)owned by Southeast Waffles LLC. has been FILTHY!!! I suspect they all have the same regional manager because of the same conditions at these stores. When the corporate office was contacted they blew it off.

Well I used to think they were ok for what they were, but then my other half told me that the last one we went to, while I was eating, he looked up and he saw roaches crawling around the food and stuff, he never told me about it at that time, because he knows I have a phobia of the things and a weak stomach. Never again!

As with any restaurant chain, it depends on who owns the one you stop at. There are good Waffle Houses and bad ones. By far, most that I have eaten at were very good. We have 4 Waffle Houses within a 15 mile radius here. My wife and I frequent them all. They are alway very clean. The staff greets you at the door, and are very courteous. The food is consistantly good. And you can't beat the prices !! Our total bill is seldom more than $10 - $12 for the two of us. I absolutely love the Cheese and Eggs. As I said, while traveling, I have eaten at Waffle Houses that were less than wonderful. But they are the exception, not the rule.

Fine dining and friendly, quick service. I may have to worry about them putting a LOT of butter in their meals, but in terms of taste, it can be, on some menu items, better than Denny's. Hope it can expand to the Pacific Coast.

Lol on a road trip back from Florida we kept seeing waffle house billboards and my son kept begging for waffles so when we all started feel hungry we decided the next waffle house we see, we will stop at. OMG it was the worst experience of my life .. well maybe I am going overboard but it was AWFUL. It was Virginia I think? and I guess it was mainly a trucker stop or something I dunno but the floor was gross when you walked on it, it crunched and the food was nasty.

Celebrate diversity, just eat at a Wafflehouse after 1AM. Truckers, transvestites, travelers, homeless people, students, and imagine this; everybody seems to get along, well at least MOST of the time. And oh yeah, ask for your hashbrowns scattered, covered and smothered, you'll be glad you did...all in all a decent late night eatery, though they lose a star for a slightly overpriced menu.

One word describes this entire tired greasy-spoon chain very well - UGH! We have had fun counting them on I-95 on our way from Florida to Maryland (about 110, I think) and elsewhere, but that is about it. They are usually inhabited by creepy people nursing coffee all night long (bums?) and their menu is gross, just like their interiors and exteriors are similarly unappealing...

The food is greasy and not the highest quality. The local Waffle House is the all-night hangout for deadbeats, burn-outs, druggies, bar flies, psychos and truckers. In my experience, this is pretty much the standard around the US. Usually dirty and usually a smoker-friendly environment makes this a restuarant no meant for the squeemish or those with children. I am sure there are exceptions, but I have not witnessed any.

Outstanding waffles and excellent grits. This is not a restaurant in which one would order a steak. Stick to breakfast items and you'll be just fine. Found the service to be competent and friendly. Downrated one star because of some silly corporate policies, all of which are noted on their online website menu.

i ate at a waffle house here in tulsa oklahoma. (we got three of them) nastest stuff ever! it was dirty and the cooks smoked cigarettes while cooking the food. I threw up in thery're bathroom twice that night. nothing like a guy smoking a maroborow, talking to me about hookers and CIA conspircies to make me preety unconfortable. I never eaten trash from a trash can but the 11st Waffle house in Tulsa, Oklahoma is preety close!

Experts in how to lose a customer! My wife & son stopped in to get a bite to eat after a ball game. My wife didn't realize that they only took cash - her mistake. However the way it was handled was horrible. The cashier told her she couldn't leave to go to the ATM despite the fact that she had an ID, checks, credit cards. Any of which could verify that she was unlikely to stiff the joint. Then the cashier had the nerve to holler at the waitresses and ask them if they would take a check and pay for the meal. None of them would do it. So then the cashier starts asking customers if they would take her check and pay the tab. How absolutely rude, & disrespectful can an employee be? For an $11 meal the Waffle house in Yukon, OK has lost a customer for life and I'll be sure to tell anyone that will listen how little they respect & value their customers...

Yes, this is one of the few sit-down restaurants that I actually enjoy! Their service is typically fast and their food, from their trademark waffles to fried bacon, is impressive. At least this sit-down place has large windows and bright interiors, compared to the dungeon-esque insides of slow-food terrors such as Cracker Bottom-of-the-Barrell and Steak & Pale. Their prices are reasonable too, and their soft drinks are above average.

I'm sorry, but I just don't care to eat a plate of greasy mess that all tastes the same because it was cooked with the meal of the guy sitting behind me and then serveed to me by a toothless wreck of a woman. How these places stay in business is beyond me. Sure it's open 24 hours but it's not the only place like that. Drive down to IHOP or Huddle House instead.
