volkswagon's are crap! used to work at a repair shop and everyone that came in needed a ton of work. Never saw one come in that needed nothing.

I own a 2006 Jetta w/ 2.5 engine. It has 40K miles on it and just recently it has been experiencing electrical problems. The left turn signal will stay on (but not blinking) when the car is off and the key is removed. This has killed the battery and altho I have not gotten the problem looked at thus far, it still is frightening to read all the problems with the electrical systems on the Jettas. Im just afraid that this will not be an inexpensive fix due to it being electrical. I too an reluctant to taking the vehicle to the dealer for fear of inflated repair expense.

I purchased a brand new 2001 Jetta 1.8T. I have had nothing but electrical problems. With the recalls, the windows slamming down by the themselves and shattering, I now have the car in the shop and its costing $400 to replace a censor that is bad causing my car to sputter like its 25 years old. The car has 34,000. If I would have known that the car was manufactured in Mexico as opposed to Germany, I wouldn't have purchased it in the first place. Be warned the automatics are manufactured in Mexico.

I am a first time VW owner, I bought a brand new jetta gls a year ago. The vehicle itself is somewhat reliable but the service is horrible. Any issued I've ever had has never been resolved smoothly. I've moved from FL to MI and had problems with dealerships in both state. If you have to make a call to roadside assistance good luck getting help!! I was stranded for over 2 hours and had to call my own tow truck. Keep in mind this was all related to an issue that was caused by repair work from the local dealership. It's 6 months later and I'm still trying to get reimbursement for the $130 tow. I would definitely advise anyone considering buying a Volkswagon to reconsider! It would save yourself a lot of headaches!

I am a first time volkswagon owner and have had more electrical problems than I have ever experienced with any of my other vehicles. I now am experiencing an oil burning smell in my engine and I'm unable to locate the leak. My Passat has only 34000 miles on it and should not be experiencing long time wear indicators.

I would say bad to ok. VW dealerships are very hard to deal with, and very expensive. I have had my Beetle for 5 years, and through those five years, I wouldn't recommend VW. The parts are expensive and the salesmen (parts wise) are not honest. You cannot even buy a battery at a local repair shop??? Not worth it. That is my opinion. I am selling my VW and buying either a Toyota or Honda.

I grudgingly rate the VW as a 3; 2.5 would be closer to what I really think. I've had two (a Quantum in the late 80s and a 2001 Jetta). The quantum had fuel injector problems (at least that's what the VW service people thought) that never did get resolved; kept on dying at inopportune moments. Finally traded it on a Honda Accord in 1994. I currently own a 2001 Jetta 1.8 Turbo that, while a fast, nimble car, has more than its share of problems. It also kept stalling and dying on me (turned out to be a mass air sensor, since put on a recall list); there have been two other recalls, one for the window mechanism and the oterh for the taillights. It has developed rattles and squeaks in the doors, and overall, has annoyances that detract from the more positive aspects of the vehicle. I dont think I'll ever consider another VW. I'll stick with Hondas (I also have a 2002 CRV that is a great vehicle).

Volkwagon makes excellent reliable cars with all excellent parts. Unfortunately, prices are extremely high, and sales have never been really high. The new Bug helps, but not by much. Drop the prices, and Volkwagon could really be the best sellers.
