Mon Nov 24 2008Here are some interesting facts about Vitamin C.An interesting point in favor of Evolution can be made. Virtually all mammals manufacture this substance. Primates, however, cannot produce "C" naturally and are dependent on diet as its source. Goats, as an example, make their own at the rate of around 13,000mg per day. Goats are, pretty much, sedentary animals, but when they are stressed-out, their metabolism kicks out way more than 13,000mg. Way more. There's a lesson to be learned, here. Our beloved FDA tells us that we only need 90mg (males) and 65mg (females) per day. These are the amounts necessary to prevent scurvy, which is pretty much unheard of in this day and age. Given a half-life of around 30 minutes in our bodies, these pawltry "requirements" are reduced to trace and ineffective elements. Goats need 13,000mg and we only need 90mg? Okaaaaay...There are a few places in our bodies that can accumulate "C", such as the retina, where up to 100x more "C" can be found than in the bl... Read more
