Sat Jul 27 2013Here's a quick review of today's headlines, per the Miami Herald: MORE BREAKING NEWS Obama: In America, no war should ever be forgotten No death penalty for Snowden if convicted, US says A look at the victims in the Hialeah killings Hospital floor slick with blood after Egypt security forces open fire on Morsi supporters Previous mass shootings in South Florida Top Defense policymaker quits; US to release 2 Algerian detainees War, retribution, violence, blood, shootings, terrorism. Literally all of it without any purpose. We'd like to think that given the immense technological advances that humanity has made over the past 100 years that we've evolved as a species, but we really haven't. In many instances, new technologies makes killing a more efficient venture. Mon Jan 05 2009Violence is indeed as American as cherry pie. This nation has always held that violence is OK, just as long as you're the victor. What a sick ethos the poor bastards in this country have labored under for a couple hundred years, fueled in recent decades by Hollywood, TV, military worshippers and cop groupies, rightwingers and a government that constantly tries to solve complex geopolitical and domestic problems with simplistic, reductive "shoot first and ask questions later" so-called "solutions." Just consider the popularity of crap like the WWF, extreme sports and other similar nonsense that's managed to poison the American spirit. Yet, very few of the idiots out there drooling on the couch in front of the TV seem to have a problem with this. No wonder we've become a second-rate nation on the way to the third tier.

Tue Nov 13 2007I think our culture has to be far more honest and embrace one of two facts- (1) we enjoy violence as a rule or (2) our pretense of rejection of violence smacks of hypocrisy at some level. The people who claim to 'hate' violence are there in front of the TV consuming violent films, shows, sports (the NFL is a gladiatorial contest), not even remotely horrified the violence due to crime, et.al. Not to say that we are bad people top to bottom, but no one can hold a straight face and claim to be oh-so-horrified by violence when it is clearly ingrained in 21rst cent. American culture. . .

Tue Nov 13 2007Now violence I have some use for. I think killing is a waste and all, but I'm down for a good ass whoopin' here and there. If any of you find yourself in Phoenix you can even duel me with a lightsaber!

Tue Nov 13 2007All I know is if someone truly enjoys violence, there is something wrong with them in the head, and should enjoy the company of a therapist / counselor.
