Tue Apr 01 2008I was out and about shopping in Virginia Highlands when I stopped in to grab a bite to eat at Vine. I was in jeans and sandals but immediately felt right at home in this beautiful upscale but comfortable place. I had the Seared Scallops as my appetizer; they were very very tender with a delicate flavor and a very tasty jus. You could tell just how fresh they were. Prosciutto crusted halibut was my choice as it was recommended to me as the house specialty, so I was intrigued enough to try it. The flavors were outrageous, the potato salad was absolutely delish and the tomato oil is now one of my favorite things (I never had it before) Such hands on attention as the house cured prosciutto adds a tremendous touch to this dish making it one of my favorites in Atlanta. Mon Mar 17 2008Is it just me or do many of the reviews on Vine seem excessively mean and personal? As I read other reviews of restaurants on City Search, the reviews usually just have to do with the food and service. Get A Life!

Thu Mar 13 2008Was making reservations on OpenTable and I saw that Vine was closed. I thought they went under as everyone was expecting, but then found out that Vine was sold. While it was only a matter of time, this is such good news. Hopefully we will see it return to its old glory. I called and found out that it is a chef and his wife that bought it. This is very exciting, it was sad to see what happened to this once great restaurant after it changed hands a year ago. Can't wait to see the new menu and watch the crowds return. Now if the guy that ruined Vine would would only sell Sala too we would return the Highlands back to a place for creative chef driven restaurants.

Sun Feb 17 2008We used to be a fan of vine but stopped going quite some time ago. We saw their new sign on a visit to highland pet so we ventured in last evening to give it another try. The menu was very confusing. They say they are steak and seafood, but there is not that great of choice. They don't say the size of the cuts (except the filet) they don't say prime or choice, no guide to temperature. The prices look lower until you find out nothing comes with the grill items, so once you add a side or two, you add another $7-$10 to the price. Our food was ok, but nothing exceptional. We like the creativity of chef dishes rather than a piece of meat off the grill. As other reviewers have said, the service lacks professionalism so I would not plan a special night. Fri Feb 15 2008Looks like Vine/Sala marketing guy Eric H (ala destinationvideo) is at it again. He is leaving fake reviews when a bad honest review hits either Vine or Sala on Citysearch. It is too bad that a restaurant is so desparate to put their marketing guy up to such tatics to deceive the public that relies on honest reviews to spend their hard earned money. Look at the history, bad review and the next day a glowing review. Gee how coincedental that this happens. Both restaurants quality of food and service have gone way down, mostly due to the significant turnover in staff. You can go on Opentable and find reservations available anytime. It is sad, because both restaurants used to be great and very busy.

Fri Feb 15 2008I've lived in Atlanta for three years, but I'd never been to the Vine, and since they had an open reservation the other night, I took it. I was so, so disappointed. Our waiter was just terrible, and everything took forever to come to the table. Nobody knew their right hand from their left. I saw a manager running food who ran it to the wrong table and just started walking around and asking each table if the entree was theirs. How incredibly unprofessional. It was like some bizarre reality tv show where people who've never worked in a restaurant try to run it for the night. The servers appeared to have tables all over the restaurant instead of sections, which had our server running like a chicken with his head cut off. Everybody looked confused. The food was great, but no better than you can get at three dozen other places in town. I am not going back.

Thu Feb 14 2008My wife and I are starting a blog for Atlanta Restaurants and have found that CitySearch offers a very wide array of input. We find the disparity of reviews particularly complex. In the case of VINE Restaurant in Atlanta, Virginia Highland or -more commonly referred to as Va-Hi- we were absolutely reluctant to a new concept, as advertised in the Ponce Press. However, in the Highland area, where we have lived for more than thirty years, there are not enough family-oriented restaurants -like the old country- to select from. Especially those that serve red meat, ha ha. New beers of European decent added to our feast! We think more restaurants in the highland district should try something new. We also met the owner, a Jona Polasky, who seemed very genuine and sincere .. he offered us a free glass of wine, but we declined because we were in the mood for one of their new beers.

Thu Feb 14 2008Valentine's at the new VINE began with a bit of vacillation, given how restaurants typically need time to perfect new concepts. Our apprehensions, however, were immediately meet with reassurance when the sommelier, greeted our table and suggested a perfect paring (and affordable) to our meal. Our server was witty and appreciated how special the night was for my partner and I. We enjoyed the new menu items .. 30 day aged rib eye for me complimented with a bernaise sauce was absolutely mouth watering after being tempted with marinated olives appetizers. As for the new decor, it was much more comfortable and casual feeling -even with a packed house and wait. Mahogany paneling accented with chocolate sued fabric adorned the main wall and seemed an excellent fit with the new leather couch and open fireplace. Distinctive yet understated, comfortable but not too cozy...perfect dining ... great new concept!

Thu Feb 14 2008My girlfriend and I made last minute reservations at Vine because it was about the only place left we could get in other than McDonalds. What a mistake, I am sure we would ahve enjoyed our meal and service much better at McDonalds. This place was totally disorganized, we ordered wine that took forever and then some slow moving heavy set guy brought it to our table and who was as pompus as they come. He had no personality, had a frown on his face like he did not want to be there and then tried to wow us with fake wine knowledge. It may have worked if it did not take 20 minutes to get a bottle of wine. When our steaks finally arrived they were over cooked and tough. Wed Feb 13 2008I found this restaurant on Open Table and thought I would try it. I went tonight, on Valentine's Day, and I was amazed at the terrible service. We waited more than 15 minutes for our drinks, and our entrees came almost 45 minutes after the order was put in. Our server was probably the worst server I have ever had at a restaurant at this price point (and worse than many at places like Ruby Tuesday, even). He never came by the table, left empty plates and glasses for the entire meal, didn't refill our water, didn't bring the wine we ordered to come specifically with the entree, gave us butter knives for the steak (which we solved by asking another server for steak knives), and didn't remember who had ordered what entree. We asked to speak to a manager, who didn't seem at all concerned with the poor service. Sun Jan 27 2008This restaurant has gone from great to being one of the worst run restaurants in Atlanta. The service is horrible for a restaurant with the highest prices in Morningside/VH. The food is OK, nothing great but not bad, just way over priced for the quantity, quality and service. The place looks run down and when we were there on Friday we were even served drinks in different glasses. When we pointed that out to the server she said we ran out of the other kind. What kind of restaurant is this? I would expect that at some low end tavern, but not a restaurant that is suppose to be somewhat upscale. Why doesn't the management get it? Every other place in the area is packed to the gills on weekends and you walk in to Vine anytime and get seated. Mon Jan 07 2008I have eaten at Vine since it opened, and the service has really gone downhill. I had a dinner party for a friend's birthday there with a large party of 18 - something their website says they specialize in - but it was a nightmare. The food was wrong, served sporadically, we were charged for bottled water we didn't order and the server had a horrible attitude with everyone and never once smiled or was gracious. The birthday dessert was brought with little fanfare, and when we gave them candles for the dessert, the brought a tealight for us to light them ourselves. The hostess had previously asked for seperate checks, and though we only had 4 checks, much of it was incorrect. The server had a shadow who was training and unable to find answers to simple questions, such as "what beers do you have?" Sat Jan 05 2008I rarely write reviews, but I'm rarely so disappointed . Went last night. First, was wide open on a Sat- we called at the last minute because Ecco was packed. Food was ok, but I expect better than ok for a $25+ entree. The service was just silly - nice guy, but totally unprofessional. Forgot our drink order the first time, then came back and asked us to remind him what it was. We waited 10 minutes easily for drinks. The server just laughed everything off. The table beside us left right after the (not great looking) charcuterie plate - they didn't stay for dinner. The place just seemed disorganized. If I'm going to spend $50 on food and drink, I'll go to repast or la tavlola, ecco, watershed - the list goes on. It just won't be Vine. Oh - potato chips no good. Don't order them.

Mon Dec 31 2007My boyfriend and I decided on Vine for NYE since we wanted a smaller more intimate spot. Little did we know we would be just a handfull of people that selected Vine. The special menu was horrible and way over priced for the small portions and poor quality. We had 8pm reservations and by 10pm the place was nearly empty. We were talking to another couple earlier that told us they were going up the street to Wisteria after dinner since that is where they really wanted to go but was sold out by the time they called. Not wanting to ring in the new year in an empty restaurant, we drove up there. The place was jammed. They were still seating people for dinner at 11pm. We had a blast at the bar. It was a little bar but they had to bartenders on to handle the crowds of people. The people at Vine were very nice and we actually felt sorry for them because they were so slow on one of the busiest nights of the year. It is unfortunate since the place is cute and has potential.

Sat Oct 27 2007We had dinner at Wisteria Saturday evening and they were so busy we had to wait close to 30 minutes to be seated even with 7:45 reservations. While we had a wonderful meal, we decided to venture to Vine for an after dinner drink since the Wisteria bar was jammed when we finished dinner around 10pm. We walked in to Vine and there was no one there! What is going on? Wisteria was booked all night with a wait and Vine is dead. We decided not to stay because it looked like they were closing up and we did not want to be the only people there so we went to Food 101 which also was still pretty busy. We used to like Vine but have not been back in a while and by the look of things others have not been either. I really felt bad for them as Vine used to be such a popular spot in the Highlands. We decided we would go during the week and check them out again.

Fri Oct 26 2007We went to Vine last evening (one of the few in the whole restaurant on a Friday night). Our server was terrible. She had no business trying to wait on tables in a restaurant as expensive as Vine. This must be her first job which is a shame the restaurant hires people like this or can not train them. My scallops were so over cooked they were like rubber. My wifes salad had brown lettuce through out. At the end of the meal they were telling us about their wine dinner on November 6 featuring King Estate wines. Sure we will rush back for that. You can find King Estate in any grocery store at the end on isle. What a joke that they would feature a mass production winery that you can buy anywhere. We drove from Midtown to Vine for something different and what a mistake.

Thu Sep 27 2007I've been to Vine several times recently and it has been amazing each occasion. They have specials Sun-Thurs (including a bottomless glass night!) and even though it's a little spendy, nothing disappoints. They have a Sunday brunch buffet with a "make your own" Bloody Mary bar that we will definitely try out. Don't let some of the older reviews scare you away... the service has always been great and the food delicious. The new ownership and management knows what they are doing!

Wed Aug 08 2007This is the first time I have taken the time to write a review for any restaurant, but last night (Wednesday) We had ladies night out at a little place in the highlands called Vine and we had such a good time all around that I had to write about it! The wine tasting was tremendous, the "wine tasting Guru" Chris really gave us a treat turning us on to 6 great new wines and thier backgrounds, none of us were wine experts by a long shot, but Chris made it fun and educational to try our new passion (wines) . Then we all had dinner, ( I had the wrapped fish on lentels) it was great, the menu rivaled that of a 5 start bistro. We were delighted to know that our cost of the wine tasting was then credited towards our meal, making the wine tasting adventure absolutely free! hard to beat that, ladies!, cant wait till cooler weather so we can come back and try the patio- thanks Vine for a perfect night out. - The girls from Mid Town-

Sun Aug 05 2007Been going to vine every week or so for almost 2 years now. Used to be I loved to go for a glass of wine but was never really keen on the atmosphere. Bit of a cave. Not much personality behind the scenes. No one at the place seemed approachable. I know some regulars liked the stuffy dark board- room decor but I think that the present state of things is much more in line with the VH area. Fresh menu. Smiling bartenders. Live jazz vocalist. Valet. The proceeds of the artwork from a local gallery even go to charity. Community focused. This is what I think a neighborhhood restaurant should have going for it. More than just a large wine list. I'm very happy with the changes.

Sat Aug 04 2007This past weekend my husband and I went to what used to be our favorite after dinner spot, only to find that it has turned into a cluttered, discombobulated wannabe lounge. VINE used to have an elegant, sophisticated, cozy atmosphere and now it just looks cheap and rundown. We noticed some changes over the past few months ? I am told due to a change in ownership ? starting with the addition of cheap water fountains, ridiculous looking columns with pillar candles, and the replacement of beautiful wine-themed artwork with almost cartoonish posters. At least the food was still good. Now the posters have been replaced with for-sale artwork which is way too big for the walls, the food menu has been whittled away to nothing (and what they have isn?t that good), and the after dinner drink menu has vanished. Mon Jul 30 2007My husband and I have been dining at Vine since we moved to the Highlands a year and a half ago. We love the neighborhood and it's convenient to have a place close by where we can meet friends for a glass of wine or a bite to eat. We've always loved the place, but recently, we've been more impressed than ever. The new owner has made quite a few positive changes. We visited Vine on Friday and were relieved to find that they finally provide free valet parking. Walking in, the change in ambiance was hard to ignore, mostly due to new, original artwork and a live jazz. band! No more chinzy prints. ;) We had heard from friends about the new chef. I hope this one stays. Lucas, the new manager, is an absolute doll. He recommended that we come back for Tapas Tuesday, which we did tonight. LOVED the sangria. Great food, warm ambiance, eclectic wine list...By far, the best spot in the Highlands!

Thu Jul 12 2007Friends and I went for the $10 wine tasting and dinner. Note that you receive $10 off if you stick around for dinner. Order the house chips, what can be better than chips and chevre and rosemary dip? The arugula salad was substantial, the eggplant roulade is uber spicy. Will be back to try several of the pasta dishes and the pork chop. Service was a bit slow especially with there being very few who were having dinner. Our server was a bit overzealous in refilling our wine glasses, our bottle was empty before our salad plates were taken away. She was a bit pushy and kept asking if we wanted another bottle. We opted for two glasses instead. I was disappointed that only one of the tasting wines was available. Wine list is strong with plenty to choose from in all price ranges. Will be back for the bottomless glass of wine.

Mon Jul 09 2007Upon the departure of Chef Tyler, I was a bit concerned about one of my favorite local spots taking a dive. Fortunately the food continues impress and the ambience remains both classy and relaxing. Our service at this nice little place is consistently good, and if you're a wine lover, this place is a blast. There are few places where you can flip through a wine list like this one and really experiment with a good selection. I love the lamb chops here, and the beef carpaccio is fantastic. My only recommendation is that they update their website and online menu more often. I don't like being surprised when my favorite wines are no longer in the cellar!

Wed Jun 20 2007I had booked my rehersal dinner weeks prior to the event and was a little nervous as is expected We had a large party serving both on the patio and inside the restuarant. It was beautiful! We had a great time! The food , drinks and service were perfect! We were afraid the rain would put a damper on things, but it was truely lovely! My family thanks you for making our special night a memory we will never forget.

Fri May 18 2007Had the opportunity to dine at VINE recently and the new menu is simply outstanding. The filet was cooked to perfection, the gazpocho was the best I ever had, the salad with crusted goat cheese was creative and delicious. While we did not have room for desserts they looked too good not to try. The chocolate duo was absolutely the best dessert I ever had and the fruit gillet was perfect as well. We enjoyed a great Barbaresco with our meal then a wonderful dessert wine new to the list. The comfortable patio setting made the whole evening relaxing and very enjoyable.

Sun Apr 29 2007My wife and I always love going to Vine. The food is always fantastic and the wine selection is unmatched anywhere in the city. We know to make reservations on the weekends, but clearly some don't, because they were packed Saturday and food and service took longer than usual. The menu has changed too, for the better I think, and that may have added to the length. I had the pork chop, which is my new favorite and my wife had a skirt steak that she loved. She finished the meal with a chocolate dessert that she is still talking about. Long story short, great restaurant, but go during the week.

Fri Apr 27 2007We have not been to Vine and we do not intend to go now. My wife and I were looking to make reservations for tonight and looked on OpenTable and the pickings were slim. We saw Vine had pleanty of availability so we read about them on opentable and it sounded good, we looked at the web site and it looked good, so we came to CitySearch to see what other diners had to say and at first we were excited by the recent good reviews and did not know why they would not be already full with all these great reviews. Then we saw they were all written the same day and obviously by the same person. There are similar misspellings, the punctuation like multiple commas between thoughts is the same and sentences ending in exclamation points. As we read on we came to the conclusion these were written by the restaurant to try and bury the recent bad reviews that seem to have been well thought out and detailed. Vine has always participated in the past and used to be one of our top picks. We were shocked to find out they were not participate last night. We chose Sala instead and had a great time. It is a shame when a restaurant puts themself above helping others and being a good community supporter. Also we saw that Vine was dropped from Atlanta Cusine Top 75 restaurants in Atlanta that was just released. They made a big deal about being added and their web site still brags about it. Boy that did not last long. I guess even the press is seeing the changes.

Mon Apr 23 2007I can't say I was a regular of Vine but now they have given me no reason to go. There was always something odd about that place. I never could put my finger on it, but we did like to go every now and then on Monday for their half priced wines to get some high end wines at a more reasonable level. Vine's wine list, while it appears large, has always been overpriced compared to better restaurants like Wisteria and One Midtown Kitchen, that also have huge wine lists. The menu has been so so and inconsistent on quality and portions. Their cheese plate is the biggest rip off I have seen anywhere. Someone had scallops last night and got 3 for $23. I was at Sotto Sotto last weekend and they gave 3 on their appetizer for I think $11. Sat Apr 21 2007Living in the Vi-HI gives me many great restaurants to choose from; Sotto-Sotto, Fritti, Murphy?s, and Sala just to name a few. Then there is Vine, I spoke with their sommelier who stated that he was ?revamping? the wine-list to offer a ?broader? range with even ?more choices,? I only hope that he keeps the Qupe Marsanne! Food lately have been great [as stated here many times before] I usually eat at the bar and recommend it! Lucas is the bartender and does a great job with wine pairings. Funny though that somebody here actually thinks that they go out of their way to use carbons, those sheets come from the credit card company!

The restaurant was smaller than I expected but the atmosphere was good. I was surprised that only one other couple arrived before we left over an hour later. I expected it to be crowded. Anyways, we sat on the patio. The atmosphere would have been great except that it felt like we arrived an hour before they opened. The kitchen staff and waiters were continuously walking through the patio area. At least a couple times, I noticed the kitchen staff standing in the doorway watching us. Service was attentive, other than they totally forgot about one of our appetizers. Homemade potato chips were almost burned and tasteless (no seasoning), but the tiny little cup of cheese fondu for dipping was good. Their version of Eggs Benedict comes with no sides whatsoever - just eggs benedict on a plate. The fish & chips should be called chips and where's-the-fish. We looked at it and said, "Where's the rest??" It consisted to two chunks of what looked like two over-cooked hush puppies. Sat Feb 24 2007My daughter and boyfriend went to Vine for valentines day after reading the great review in Atlanta magazine and just raved about it. Since we live in Marietta we made reservations for Saturday and I will say it was worth the drive and we will be back. We had a bit of a wait even with reservations, but the place is so comfortable, we did not mind waiting about 20 minutes at the bar. Our server John was excellent. He helpd us navigate the menu and we loved everyone of his recommendations including the Ahi Tuna special. The wine list is the biggest I have seen anywhere. So many selections and all very reasonably priced. Our server asked the wine manager to come over to help with our selection and he recommended a great Pinot that was only $45. The desserts at only $7 each are artfully done and big enough to share. We made the mistake of ordering two dessert because all sounded so good and fiqyure they can't be that big for $7. Mon Jan 22 2007The Scene VINE has carved out a cozy little nook for itself behind the post office on North Highland. The dining room is intimate, with crisp white table linens and glossy wood floors. Wine-inspired prints by a local artist give splashes of muted color to the walls and draw attention to the extensive wine selection. A snake-like light fixture undulates across the ceiling, casting the crowd in a golden glow. The Food A seasonal menu with New American dishes and Mediterranean influences is paired with a complementary wine list, along with artisan cheeses and small plates. A braised beef short ribs starter is perfectly tender, its smoky flavor accented by creamy cheese grits. Likewise, a pan-seared lump crab cake gets perked up by potent wasabi aioli. An entree of caramelized scallops is nicely browned and still tender; the cashew-crusted black grouper is served with sweet corn, okra, and black-eyed peas.

Sun Dec 31 2006This has to go down as one of our best New Years Eve Celebration Dinners ever. Our wonderful server made several tempting reccommendations. We started wih a Crab and Roasted Corn Bisque. It was topped with Serrano Chili and White Shrimp Relish. What a start. Next was the Blood-Red Orange and Fresh Fennel Salad. It had a wonderful Parmigiano Vinagrette. Got to get that receipe. We had a classic Chateaubriand, with Sundried Cherry and Cognac Jus. The best we've ever had. And to top everything off, a Valrhona Chocalate Mousse with Hazelnut Crumbles. And of course all the wine pairings were outstanding. I don't know how we can top this next New Year's Eve. Thu Dec 28 2006This was our first visit to Vine which I found online at this site. We wanted a nice romantic spot with a great wine list. Vine exceeded our expectations on every front. We had an early reservation in order to catch the Nutcracker at the Fox. We actually got there 15 min before they opened (coming from out of town), but it was no problem, we were immediately seated. Our server was Cameron, and he was one of the most engaging servers I have had anywhere, very nice and helpful with the menu. We got the eggplant roulade based on his description and it was fantastic. The grouper was excellent, but the pork chop was absolutely the best! It rivaled any steak I have ever had. We enjoyed it all with an outstanding Turley Zinfindel. While there are many spots in Atlanta I still want to try when coming into town, Vine will be getting repeat business from us!!
