Tue Sep 16 2008The first ingredient is lamb meal. Lamb meal is a popular ingredient in dog food. The second ingredient is chicken meal. Chicken meal is an ingredient often used in dry dog food and cat food. The third ingredient is brown rice. Brown rice (or "hulled rice") is unmilled or partly milled rice, a kind of whole grain.

Tue Jun 19 2007This food is junk. Look at the first five ingredients. I put this in Iams cat... My dog licked and chewed her paws like mad. I thought I was doing a good thing, holistic, all natural, but no good, educate yourselves! Don't let titles fool you!

Wed May 23 2007I agree with Averiz. Great food. I haven't been to the vet in years for my 3 cats. Don't want to take the chance of vaccinosis or some allopathic vet without any training in nutrition to try to sell me their grain-based foods full of toxins. My cats don't have hairballs, they hardly shed, their poop is minimal, never had to clean their ears, which is the real proof of the digestibility of the product. They don't gain weight, which is what most grain-based diets do. Just this fact alone tells me that it is a meat-based product. Corn is not a problem, and is an excellent source of amylase. They use human-grade whole corn and not the corn that cows eat. Bigggggggggggggg difference! Plus it is not the first or second ingredient and not a major source of the protein level. Someone said that the Viand for dogs is too expensive. If they researched the site for feeding guidelines, they would see that it costs about 45 cents a day to feed a 40 pound dog. I don't understand how someone can think... Read more

Tue May 22 2007Ok, first off, IF their liver digest was actually chicken, they would be allowed to put it on the bag. Since, they do not, that means that they are NOT using chicken for their liver digest but instead, are using an unknown meat source. This is similar to meat and animal by-products. We are talking about road kill and euthanized dogs and cats.....NOT chicken!!!!If that wasn't bad enough, they have this article on corn. The article itself is interesting and I actually may have done research to confirm if it was true or not. HOWEVER, at the end of the article, the write this "Get an ear of corn raw or cooked (without the cob), feed it to your dog and see what happens. The answer: Nothing. Let’s end the hype!" I don't know whats worse, Science Diet claiming that By-products are healthy or Viand claiming that having your dog eat an ear of corn and having nothing happen proves that dogs do not get allergies from "hypoalergenic corn". FYI, with many protien allergies it takes years to develop... Read more
