Mon Nov 12 2012It is a privilege to be able to call myself a Marine, but I'll be honest... I feel funny about some of the vet hero worship that goes on. I got into fistfights and all other manner of misbehavior for four years, so you have to understand that I feel sheepish about people thanking me for my service. Sure, I went abroad for 13 stinking months away from my family and I guess I could have been killed by something stupid happening, but I'm still around and in good health, so I have to be honest and say that others deserve a shit ton more thanks than my narrow ass rates. Thank the guy that did three deployments to Iraq and three more in Afghanistan... thank a grave somewhere in Oklahoma that holds a good friend of mine... those are the guys that did things that impress me. UPDATE: To the giver of that D vote... fuck you from Mother Green's Killing Machine.

Thu Jan 21 2010Living vets need our respect as well as those that have fallen. Even though their job is to make the other guy die for "his" country, it doesn't oftern work out that way.

Fri Jun 24 2005November 11 is Armistice Day. Veteran's Day was established on the last Monday in October until the whiners and cry-babys got it moved to Movember 11. It's wrecked a good three day weekend.

Tue Dec 21 2004We have men and women of the armed forces in harms way right now and it is very important to remember are veterans. The ones who made it home and especially the ones who did not. The USA is the best dam country in the world and there are no bigger heros then the people who fight and unfortunatly die for it. Its great that many of us get a day off to reflect on this day.

Mon Nov 01 2004This certainly is one of the most important holiday's we have. These veterans have in one way or another given their country a reason to be proud. It's the least we can do for them.

Sun Sep 14 2003I pay respects to my soldiers fighting for me and the liberation of the Arab people in the middle East. Still, this holiday is boring to me. I mean, No one gets a day off. And people just LOVE to use this day as an excuse for using racial slurs! Also, I note this: People are very ill-tempered and crabby on this day. Strange.

Sun Aug 03 2003I respect the fact those veterans fought for us, what I hate is 98% of these old guys are the ones that frown on me for having an interracial dating relationship! Most are pretty racist against anyone who isn't white.

Thu May 15 2003This is a great holiday because it's on my birthday. And because it honors our veterans.

Tue Feb 11 2003Veteran's Day is an important day to stop for a moment and give thanks to those unselfish individuals who put their lives at risk to fight for the United States and to keep our way of life safe.

Fri Dec 20 2002Always remember the veterans before you who have shed their blood on the battlefields in the name of freedom, from Revolutionary War up to present day. Without freedom, you wouldn't be able to surf the net, let alone read this entry.

Tue Jan 01 2002Hmmm...I can't say that I honor Veterans Day in any sort of special way...I don't even know what day it is. I do respect the people who "gave their lives for their country", but it makes me kind of sad that they couldn't have served their country in some other way. I think that Veterans Day should be a reminder to everyone of the lives that have been lost (and that includes ALL lives, not just American lives) in past wars, and how horrific those times were. Also, to remember the people who have died fighting their own personal battles---terminal diseases, etcetera. But there are quite a few people out there who misuse this holiday, and I don't like it. Take care, everyone!

Sun Dec 16 2001It is less solemn than Memorial Day because you can actually see living former soldiers that have been through terrible war encounters and have seen atrocities. It is their day of appreciation.

Tue Nov 27 2001In light of 9-11, a holiday that needs to be celebrated a little bit more. We have become too complacent in the freedom that enlisted men through almost four centuries have died for. This is a day to pay respect to those who have fought for freedom. We need to do this now, more than ever. Thank you to all our servicemen in the Middle East, God bless!

Thu Oct 11 2001Nothing fun happens on this day as a holiday, but I respect the cause.

Mon Jun 11 2001While Veterans' Day is certainly a worthy holiday, and our veterans certainly do deserve to be remembered, the only thing that differentiates it from any other day is that banks and the post office are closed (NOT a good thing, by the way). Let's face it--it's a holiday no one celebrates in any way... families don't come together, you eat just like any other day--no one makes any sort of special dessert for Veterans' Day--it seems almost like a wasted effort. They TRIED to do good, giving veterans their own special day, but the sad truth is, most people don't even know when it is, or what it is, making it a wasted effort.

Wed May 09 2001If you don't think veterans deserve a holiday... then go watch the movie "Saving Pvt. Ryan" if it does not make you think of the courage, bravery, honor, ...on and on... that the soldiers deserved during that war and all the others as well... you don't need to be an American for sure! Our military personnel need our support even today so lets all show it! I was fortunate to have served in a time of peace and I often think, if war had broken out during my 6 years, it could have easily been me with memories of war in my head. I took my oath while being sworn in very seriously and so have most who have taken that oath to defend this great country since it was created. Many lives have been lost to defend our freedoms and our veterans are those past defenders who deserve recognicition at least one day each year. I occasionally drive my kids through a national cemetary, near where they live, just to let them see all the little white tombstones lined up perfectly, so they can start to a... Read more

Wed Apr 18 2001Saying thanks; simple, free and the least we can do.

Mon Apr 16 2001Veteran’s Day…the day we celebrate being able to sleep soundly at night and thank the men and women who allow us that privilege. I don’t know if you can expect anymore from a person than what we as a country expected of our military personnel as they gained their Veteran status, no matter what war it took place in. We may not agree with every endeavor they are commissioned to undertake, but we should all be glad they have. I thank them all.
