THis is a superb unit and deserves 5 STARS BUT don't buy it here for $579 when you can buy it direct from Valentine for $399? Bizarre!

Valentine One Radar Detector is a big piece of JUNK. Two months old and had to send it back twice. Get this, they will not warranty the unit unless you bought it directly from them. In fine print in the back of the owners manual, it states the warranty is non-transferable. So, if you buy it from anyone else, YOUR WARRANTY IS NO GOOD. This company SUCKS. They know they are selling units to comapny for resale but will not warranty them. Go to HELL Valentine!!!

The Valentine One is a good radar detector but you are paying a lot of extra money just to know the number of signals and where they are coming from (big deal!). I have tested it side-by-side with a Cobra 9930 and the Valentine One only detected signals about one second before the Cobra did (and that was mostly the X band, which as far as I know is not used anymore). Most of the time, they would both go off at the same time. So much for the hundreds of extra dollars spent on the Valentine One. And even though I agree with one of the previous users that radar detectors are not used to make a fashion statement, it should be mentioned that the Valentine One really does have a very outdated look. For the money that people put into it, the people at Valentine really could make an effort and come up with a more modern-looking device. Every time a new update comes out (which if you think about it, is not very often: X, K, Ka and the 4 types of laser have been around for YEARS and the only ... Read more

I've had a Valentine 1 since the early 90's. Over the years, it has been upgraded and has consistently been a top performer. Since those early days, these new V1s offer laser, a reinforced power cord (fixing a former Con), slightly modified/improved interface (see Pros) and new detection capabilities for instant-on radar. Pro: -Incredible detection range that always amazes my passengers... consistently voted #1 in the rankings in laser and radar tests, usually only dinged for price (see Cons) or styling. (Are they serious? Who care's if it's boxy?) -Able to track multiple targets at one time (9), which at first sounds silly, but it helps you filter threats. With other detectors you may think "I must have passed him by now" while with V1 you'll see that you've transitioned from 2 overlapping signals, one may be false one may be real. -Able to tell that you've passed a target. Signal in front will shift to side lights and then to rear helping you ID where the signal is. -Is he... Read more

i did about 3 weeks of research and more thinking than i should have put into a radar detector purchase...but after using this unit...it was well worth it...there isnt a single thing i would change about this unit...it tells you where the signal is coming from...which has saved me SOOOO MANY TIMES...it tells you what band, how many signals, and it even detects Ku and POP...this might be the most expensive radar detector, but until you own one...you can't truly comprehend how vastly superior it is to all other brands and models,... my V1 has paid for its self many times over...esp on my road trip to and from nashville (i live in the harrisburg, pa area)...most people i know arent willing to pay the price for this unit...but the thing is...you can buy a crappy cheaper detector...and then in a couple years when new technology comes out you have to buy a new one...and so on and so forth...before you know it...you've spent more than you ever planned on...with the V1...if theres new technolo...
