My 11 month old Berneses Mountain Dog has been eating raw for 7 months. Starting him on Pets Go Raw, which he loved, we soon after decided that organic is the way to go. He loved Arusha and Legacy as well as some home made raw food and hunters old game. After purchasing a case of Urban Carnivore I quickly became worried because me dog wanted nothing to do with the food. My dog is far from pickie, he will eat plain salads! He ate a little here and there and his stool became loose and runny. After emails to the company (telling me to use the tough love tactic), phone call to the store I purchased from who said the food was fine, I went to our local pet food store who is amazing to help me figure out what the heck is going on. She phoned some pet food reps and was told that they process their food differently (they scrape the carcus so not much meat is left, therefore grinding up mostly cartilage and bone and adding the organs back in). Not only is this a huge difference but once the meat... Read more

Urban Carnivore has been fed to my pei for 4 yrs. Not once have I had any problems nor illness. In fact my pei are the healthiest they've ever been. I don't like feeding dry that is full of additives, fillers, and preservatives. Natural is the way to go. I rate urban carnivore 5 stars and have and will recommend this food to anyone.

Update: After eating the bad batch of Urban Carnivore our puppy was never the same. Even though we took him off of it and he was no longer anemic his stools were either the consistency of water or pudding and he was losing weight. After $500 worth of tests it was discovered that he TESTED POSITIVE for SALMONELLA and CLOSTRIDIUM PERFRINGENS ENTEROTOXIN TYPE A which attacks the lining of the intestines and interferes with the absorption of fluid and nutrients. We were told he would have to go on a high fiber diet and a very expensive drug called Tylesin which we were told he may be on for the rest of his life. I was worried what all that fiber would do to his joints by year 3 and was told he probably wouldn't make it to year 3 without this type of intervention. The pathologist told us that 67% of commercially prepared raw pet food patties have tested positive for salmonella. We were also told that inflammatory bowel disease may be an underlying component as a result of the enterotoxin A ... Read more

We fed Urban Carnivore to our cats and one Chow (now deceased) for years with no problem until this year. We got a new Chow puppy this spring that had only ever eaten Urban Carnivore. The chicken patties were fine until this summer when they changed for the worse. Instead of the color of raw chicken like they used to be they were now red and left a greasy residue on the conatiners. My chow puppy who is sensitive to fat and suceptible to colitis like most chows are, got very sick a few hours after eating one patty from the new batch and had to go on medication to treat colitis. I contacted the dealer who in turn contacted Urban Carnivore and was told that a fatty shipment of chickens had been processed and they more cases in exchange for the troublesome ones. Just as my puppy was feeling better I tried a patty from the latest shipment (which also looked red instead of the color of chicken) with the same bad results. Blood tests done revealed that my 6 month old puppy who had only ever ... Read more

We have been feeding their foods for over a year now to our 7 year old poodle mix, and to our 4 housecats. We feed them this as their evening meal normally (use grain free kibble in the morning when we are rushed). The animals love the taste, and their health has much improved. The company has several products including supplements, we normally only use their frozen whole animal patties so can only comment on them. We currently rotate between elk, quail, bison, rabbit, duck, lamb, goat, and beef. They also have a chicken one but chicken is in the kibble we feed so we dont want to be redundant. When we transitioned over to these foods it did take a while to get our animals to get used to the taste, but now that they are they relish in their evening meals.
