University of California - Santa Cruz

GREAT school with a wonderful staff. Beautiful environment and a beautiful campus. Yes, there are many hippies in Santa Cruz...not so many at the school. Most folks at the school are serious students with serious goals. ANY college has its share of bozos.

Hi, I'm going to whine and cry about picking a "dead major" without having researched it first. Santa Cruz isn't all that great. Beautiful flora and environment. I'm only talking about the nature, though. As far as the institution itself goes. It is a racist, sexist, and homophobic campus. We are the only UC without an ethnic studies department or program. It is incredibly expensive to come here, as well. As a result, the students who make up the population of UCSC are the richest of any university of california. As a result, you have a lot of privileged people who come to this campus who buy their way through life and hold back discussions on systems of domination with comments such as "I thought racism ended with the civil rights movement." If you are a person of color and/or a woman, avoid this campus like the plague.

As we were driving up the west road to show my uncle the campus, he asked me: "Um, do you have any buildings on this campus?"

Top Ten Reasons why UCSC and Santa Cruz in General SUCKS!!! 1. Mall rats from Los Angeles that think they are hippies. 1 and a 1/2.. !!God damm Hippies all over Santa Cruz!! 2. Traffic (People here drive like they are all stoned hippies).. All roads lead in concentric circles.. Around and around.. as if they were engineered by a bunch of stoned hippies. 3. Over Priced.. Hey if I wanted to pay up the butt I would have moved to Aspen.. At least the people there would have smelled better when you are waiting in the only open lane at the only big food store in town. Hippies don't work for the store cause um it is a corporate store. 4. Hypocrisy.. Smog-spouting VW busses with 20 "Save the Planet" bumper stickers. Organic, dreadlocked, anti-corporate "hippies" buying $200 t-shirts at one of the downtown shops. imagine summer camp... walking through the woods to get to class. The teachers are all laid back. You get personal attention and the people are awesome.
