Its all rather sticky. Potential coverage of illegals is a factor that has me spitting and throwing things a bit given the very real problems associated with illegal immigration here in Arizona. Another thing that has me nervous as hell is that I've had government provided heath care in the military and it stunk on ice, so check me off as concerned about the quality of care associated with any sort of universal coverage. The last thing that grinds my gears is all this talk of a requirement to have health insurance and fines if you don't get it. Excuse me? I lack the funds for insurance and I sure as hell don't have money lying around to pay some fine for not having it. So then what?

Single payer works well in western Europe. Why not here? UPDATE: I may have missed the the fact that the phrase "Universal Coverage" is code for a scheme that's primarily designed to enrich insurance companies and the medical establishment.

It goes beyond "insurance". Everybody should be entitled to health care and it should not be a profit game.

Looking at the drivel spewed forth on this subject and trying to make sense of it, I conclude from Barack Hussein's teleprompter screed the other night, and further from his serfs on the Hill, that the final bill is going to MANDATE that coverage is going to be provided for everyone and everyone is MANDATED to purchase it. How that is going to work is in the ether. We already have mandatory purchase of automobile liability insurance in most of the states of the USA and you can see how well that is working. If you are one of those persons who have 127 previous DUI arrests and have a crash a week, then you are put into a risk pool where the cost of the product includes your first-born child. Hilarious.MANDATORY purchase cannot work without a government program to pick up the mopes. This whole thing promises to be a mess, or as Tommy Lee Jones stated in "No Country for Old Men," "I'll do until the mess gets here."

Over in the UK I've been watching various debates on healthcare in the United States for quite some time and most recently now. I find it absolutely shocking that not everyone has the option of healthcare in one of the most richest countries in the world. Why shouldn't it be available and accessible to all due to the fact some can't afford it? They did a story on BBC news the other night about a young girl in the States who has arthritis and didn't want to get into the ambulance when she got ill as she simply couldn't afford it. She couldn't afford the medication to get tablets. For me personally I wasn't impressed.

We have to have some level of base coverage for every American. I don't care if it's mandated coverage, a government run program, or some combination of the two. But every American needs some base level of medical insurance. It's time. Besides the moral and economic reasons for preventing medical related bankruptcies, there is a clear practical reason. We (the tax payer) are already paying for the uninsured. Hospitals don't turn sick people away. But instead of you and me paying ER rates for something that could be prevented with regular maintenance, let's provide a base, universal level of coverage that will hopefully prevent treatable conditions from turning into catastrophically dangerous and expensive situations.

I rate this a 1...not because it is "who cares", but because of the agenda behind this. If healthcare is an entitlement, all I ask is that someone kindly show me where this is in the US Constitution. If the federal government has the right to do what Obama and the Dems are attempting to do, kindly show me where it is in the US Constitution. Lastly, if healthcare is a right, why should big brother not provide water, food, clothing and shelter? Update: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9GMKK_fWKg
