I think this is my next stop. I'm not joking. England has gone backwards whilst it seems to me the US is progressing. Everything has gone out of control over here in the UK. From immigration to our economy to schools to crime. It's not the proud nation it once was. Over in the US you seem to have more people of colour in power. In the UK it's little next to none unless you come from an "affluent" background. Yep American here I come.

You have to admit with the Wilsonian theory having a great hold among those who wield our nation's power, the United States is somewhat of a dangerous country. Look at Bush 41, Clinton, and Bush 43 with their invasions, air wars and nation building. I have some hope that Barack Hussein will hold his hand. Most people in Africa and Asia are not keen to adopt Anglo-American democracy and its attendant decadence, or at least decadence as seen by the locals in the said Africa and Asia.I hope that Barack Hussein abandons the theory that "you'd better adopt democracy or we are going to bomb you back to the stone age."

The US was the best place to live for a long time.  Certainly for the 50 years after WWII-mainly because the rest of the world was either flattened by the war, or fell behind afterwards.Now, I'm not so sure.  Most Americans don't travel abroad, and have no idea how poor and backward many parts of their country are-even compared to some 'developing' countries.  The luckier parts of the country-New York, California, the Southwest, Florida-are going to get hit very hard by the collapse of the FIRE (finance, insurance, real estate) sectors-which is practically the whole economy in some places.  If oil prices spiked, or foreigners stopped financing our debt, things could turn very bad, very quickly.  Double-digit unemployment, hyperinflation, riots, martial law-these are all well within the realm of possibility.  At best, it's a long recession and a continued slide towards Argentinian norms-rampant corruption, sky-high inequality, boom-bust economic cycles, collapsing infrastructure and pub... Of course any country that has the most powerful military and is so stupid the likes of Geoge W. Bush gets elected twice is a real threat to world peace and liberty.

Not as safe as it once was and more than likely will never be. I still choose the USA over any nation and I feel blessed to be a citizen.

As long as the USA is ruled by neoCONs, the risk of terrorism and nuclear war is higher than it would be with ideologically saner people in charge.

I don't think you can say that the USA is dangerous, well not were I'm living!!! Johannesburg is the most unruly City in the world but that does not mean Africa is dangerous!! I think that there have been some dangerous Presidents, but I could say that about the UK, France, Germany, Russia, Korea ect. Yes it has the most Nuc's and yes it has the men and women deployed around the world and yes there is crime. But everywhere has their far share of that!!! Maybe we should put are Humans dangerous, that would get an emphatic YES!!!!

Any country, including the United States, has the potential to become dangerous.  It's all in the way it's run.

America has dropped bombs on well over fifty countries and has had a hand in nearly every violent revolution in the 20th century. Democracy has never, ever been a motivating factor in any of these crimes. So America is dangerous to foreigners, for sure. Also, the murder rate in the US is many times higher than any other industrialized country's, and is the most polluted nation in the western hemisphere, so America poses a danger to its own citizens as well. I guess everyone on earth is in danger from the United States.

Dangerous how? Dangerous to other countries? If you piss us off you tend to get rocked, so there is merit to that idea. Dangerous to its own people? Only if you listen to the monster shouters. Dangerous as a society? We are more safe than alot of places. No riots of late (numbah coughs "France" for some reason), no daily terrorist attacks just yet, a nasty enough crime rate but not the worst, and we don't have IEDs in the streets. I feel pretty safe here because our society, despite what some would tell you, is largely reasonable and I have guns for those that aren't.

We do have a tendency to fly off the handle and invade. And if you bomb our buildings and we can't get at you, we'll attack somebody else, maybe even your enemy. We are "dangerous" in that our history of military adventures has done more to whip up hornet nests that last for a long time so we can feel good about "doing something." I think there are maybe 5 or 10 third world countries where we haven't had some sort of military involvement. We don't have a habit of electing presidents with restraint, nor congress representatives with the balls to perform their own Constitutional duties rather than turning over total power to the executive in the face of political pressure. That being said, we are a democracy and it has kept our hawks in some check in the past. According to the memoirs, Nixon would have used nuclear weapons against N. Vietnam but for the protests.

If you fly airplanes into out buildings or bomb us with out declaring war we become very dangerous. The USA could be the most dagerous nation on the planet but we have things like democracy and all the freedoms it brings with it. The USA is not controled by a dictator or religious fanatics suck as North Korea or Iran. The said if the United Nations had any thing to back up all of its talk we would not be in Iraq right now. I know Saddam learned how dangerous the USA can be. The next time a country is told be the UN to let in inspectors, maybe they will do it.

I agree with JR1 and RicardoDeSantiago (except US is far to be the most powerful country, Russia is and some more are in front of it, US just have more resources and the population grew because 20 years ago it was different) "numbah16tdhaha"... education is way easier and more simple in United States than it is here (maybe the high ignorance comes from there), also some peoples look for hot spots, Florida and California are popular among new folks who meet new folks, this is the reason. Plus the US money currency is getting lower every year, I wonder why?... it means more peoples going there to take advantage of it and then get the hell out of there in a few years (I actually know some peoples doing it right now) And for the same reasons (and more) that JR1 and Ricardo mentioned, I would never live in United States.

America has its vices like any other place. The biggest irony is that we are based on ultimate freedom and yet everything is so religious in such an oppressive way. We also see this concept of freedom by having really ridiculous crime and drug rates...i mean come on people! Racism is disgusting, and patriotism gets blown way out of proportion so much that it becomes neo fascism. However, it is a comfortable society that is kept ignorant of many worldy events (ignorance can be bliss). Our standards of living are among the best in the world and we are a rather rich nation. We have great products and services...but...i think our cultural flaws are really disgusting. (we are also really inefficient here with our SUVs and terrible public transportation system...and mad people are overwieght)

Just so you know; a majority of the people who take advantage of those who don't speak english or immigrants, are more likely to be immigrants, themselves. EDIT: I changed my mind; Yes we are all corrupt evil people over here, just waiting to stab anyone who enters America and is obviously foreign. The men will rape you and the women will kill you and we are all waiting to take your money. So, keep out, for safety's sake! ;)

I currently live here (I used to live in venezuela), and it is one of the most shallow and cold hearted countries you could ever imagine! They hate foreigners and are extremely ignorant about the outside world (some don't even know about their own country). It may the worlds most powerfull country, but it is not somewhere you want to live. People will take advantage of you if you don't speak english and there are are so law suits daily that it'll make your head spin! Not a good place to raise a family, specially with all the drugs in their schools. 4 out of 10 high school students do or have done marijuana and/or other drugs. America is also the leader in over weight people.

The US could flatten most countries, and are too powerful to be affected by things like the UN. If they wanted to, they could certainly cause more damage than any other country. Fortunately, if you live in a country with similar ideals, you should be OK. If you aren't a friend of thiers, you should be worried. 4/5 because they're powerful, but aren't too crazy.

I'll admit we have made some errors in judgement due to a system that is evolving at a slower rate than normal as of lately. At the same time Americans have saved the world from oppression and tyranny countless times overseas to help other people to live a peaceful life. As I see it everyone should quit holding grudges about the past and live for the day. As it is right now we as an entire world need to see each other as one large family. Until this day comes we just may never see peace.....ever. Any one rating the USA over 3 is probably a extreme liberal or not from this country. USA is the country with the biggest National debt and they are not doing anything to help it (who cares uh?) They say they're the best but they're hiring foreign doctors, nurses, scientists and more day after day. As of April 2005 there has been an average of 160,000 troops in the Iraqi theater. The firearm death ratio is 60 per 100,000. The firearm death in Washington DC is 80.6 per 100,000. That means you are more likely to be shot in our nation's capitol which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the country, than you are in Iraq. The only logical conclusion that one can reach is that we should immediately pull out of............... Washington DC!!

My parents moved here with me 15 years ago. That said, I don't think America is a nice place to move to, even for a job. My dad didn't have to move here; it was his choice. However, I'm having serious thoughts about moving back to the Caribbean. The job situation is not great at all here, in fact, I'd probably have better luck at home. The people are depressing. I have had seen friends and family move here and turn into monsters, or become manipulated by the unscrupulous. Once friendly, open people in other countries turn into cliqueish, arrogant, over-ambitious, fake and greedy souls. The drive to make money overcomes common sense. The education here is appalling, from the lowest to the highest level. I don't want to raise my children here, lest they become shallow, rude, ignorant and vapid. It is nice as long as you keep out of the South, especially Georgia and the hellhole known as Atlanta.

I am an American and don't plan to leave, but there are many problems here. Hypocrisy is the basis of the government. When the nation was founded the slave owners said all men are created equal. Not much has changed. You are free, if you accept the beliefs of the people with the guns.

The nice thing about the US is, if you don't like the weather, the people, the accents, whatever, you don't have to move to another country. So, if I had to move to another area within the US, I'd pick Florida. It's an odd state (every other sign seems to warn you not to feed the crocodiles), but it's beautiful and warm. But I'd be more likely to travel around the States than to settle down in one place so soon.

I love the U.S. and have lived here all my life. IF I had to move to any part of the U.S. other than where I live now I'd choose probably eastern Washington or western Oregon-near the coast. The climate is good there-fairly mild and it's breath takingly beautiful.

Our country is run by Machiavellians who believe it is better for us to be feared than loved. But what's gonna happen when the 90 lb nerds of the world team up against the titanic bully?

My rating here depends on who is the current president. During Carter's (single) term, the US was a great, big, slovenly, armed-to-the-teeth paper tiger, searching endlessly for excuses not to fight our enemy for our survival. During Reagan's two-terms, and George HW Bush's (single) term, the US was confident and frightening, especially after Ghaddaffi's mid-night pajama party, orchestrated by Reagan and Margaret Thatcher, and the 2 month Mother of All Battles conducted by the brilliant military strategist Saddam Hussein in the Gulf War. When Clinton was elected, enemies of the US knew that our newly elected leader would be much more open to diplomatic resolution to conflicts and his loathing for the US military would affect his judgement as Commander-in-Chief.
