I have shot lots of turkeys over the last 35 years, and of all the wild birds, turkeys are the best eating. Fix 'em just like a domestic one but they are a little more dry. Add some extra apples to the dressing to moisten. Some people like oranges. Another trick is to cook breast down covered for about 5 hours and then pop off the cover and finish at 375 for an hour. No dryness there! The average bird is smaller then the domestic. Yes, indeed they can fly. Last fall I was hunting different game and came across a flock of 40 of them. They flew so much that they scared away everything else.

Helpful when I'm hungry. UPDATE: Why is everybody down on the turkey? He may be annoying and mean, but that just makes killing him and eating his tastiness more rewarding.

Come November, they want NOTHING to do with us. They make the best noise of any animal though.

Trying to imagine what it is that turkeys do besides provide comic relief. As far as providing food, yes but I can't think of anything else.

Definately agree with forgotten hero on this: allies don't eat each other for dinner.

I doubt that the turkey wanted to sacrifice itself so that I could have something to eat on thanksgiving day and sandwiches the day after.

Okay, I'll admit how tasty they are especially on holidays but I hate turkeys! For some unfathomable reason, they're completely disgusting to me...so noisy and so ugly! Okay, so maybe my disgust is a little unmerited but all I have to say is thank God Ben Franklin didn't get his wish to make this the nation's bird.
