When my buddy sent me an email explaining how over the holidays he had been to San Francisco with friends, and tried a new wild game treat called ‘Turducken’ – a combination of meats. What he failed to make clear was that the three meats were Turkey, Duck and Chicken. And what really complicated matters were that in his haste of typing he evidently added a letter ‘f’ while typing the adjacent ‘d’ key, and created a very different impression in my mind of how his time in San Francisco had been. What would you have thought? “…Went to San Francisco with some friends over the holidays and tried this new wild game thing called ‘Turdfucken’ – a combination of meats.” I kinda got the impression he had gotten a little funny on me, been to some really crazy party, and/or maybe replaced ‘Rice-A-Roni’ as the San Francisco treat. In any event, if you decide you like the taste of Turkey, Duck and Chicken prepared together, you might want to be careful how you describe it in your emails to f... Read more

I've never had it, but it doesn't sound that bad. I'm not a fan of duck though, so I think I'd probably stick to the chicken and turkey part. I've also heard of variations on this that incorporate goose, but I'm really not a fan of goose at all.

Sure glad I read the description before I wrote anything. Given the name I had a pretty different idea of what this might be.

I'd pass on this one.Turducken reminds me of a Russian doll. A boneless turkey that is stuffed with a boneless duck that is stuffed with a boneless chicken.

Don't knock it until you've tried it.  Can be stuffed with traditional bread-based stuffings or with oyster or crawfish stuffing which is more traditional, this being a cajun creation.  Lot's of meat.I ordered one from Louisiana over the internet a few years back and it arrived well frozen.  Lot's of fun for the big family Thanksgiving gathering.  Don't be afraid to give this a try!  I recommend it.  Only trick is to watch out for too high heat and overcooking the outside before the inside is done - remember this is basically solid meat (at last compared to a classic stuffed turkey).  You may want to prepare extra stuffing on the side as there is not a lot between the layers of meat.I don't know about you, but if I never have to prepare and consume another traditional baked turkey that would be OK.  Boring!

My in-laws made this last Thanksgiving. Their butcher had one-upped the Turducken by stuffing hot links inside the chicken. Thus, selling this crazy meat under the name of Turducken was almost a misnomer -- Turduckenage, maybe? I can't say I want to eat it again. Only in America, as they say ...

Years ago, a man who used to live near us was preparing a deep fried turkey for his familys thanksgiving dinner. I don't know about other areas other than the south, but these are something of a tradition with some folks down here. Bubba got one of those giant fryers and spent all day preparing and frying this turkey. When he was done, and the smell of gourmet fried turkey in the air, he loaded the turkey into the back of his '72 Ford pickup and went back in the house to grab a rabbit he'd killed the day before (just incase they ran out of turkey). He came out of the house ready to go and saw his neighbor's coon dogs tearin' his prized turkey to shreds. What would his family do without their main course? This was the firs year they had trusted Bubba with such responsibility. He sat there and thought with the rabbit dangling in his hand. A squirrel in a trap under his front porch thrashed and bubba looked up and saw up on the road a opossum that had met its fate under the tire of ... Read more
