Here's a copy of my response to the Better Business Bureau which I think pretty much sums it up: CASE ID: ****** On November 29, 2012, you provided the following information: (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) This company promised a "guaranteed accurate return", which I paid for and did not receive. They promised prompt, courteous service and provided several weeks-worth of advanced clown college. Their so called audit support is outsourced and completely disconnected from the main company. This is obviously a firewall and cut-out designed to keep the "fleas" away as the phrase I heard most often was "Uhhh... well, we're not directly affiliated with them so I can't really say". This BBB compliant, and the threat of a lawsuit, was the one and only reason their main office took any subsequent interest and they reacted according to obvious corporate procedure, right out of some "deal with the cheesed off customer manual", to cover their back... I am a Turbo Tax Inner Circle member, and I very much appreciate the opportunity they allow me to give them feedback. That's an organization who cares! I used to do my taxes on my own, sweating blood over what the instructions meant, and what form I should be filling out... I am SO glad those days are over!! I have used TT now for several years. Turbo Tax just asks you questions one at a time, and when all the questions are answered, your taxes are done! All the mysterious forms and calculations are taken care of behind the scenes. I will use Turbo Tax as long as they remain the excellent service they are today! I HIGHLY recommend them to any taxpayer!

I have been using Turbo tax for over 10 years and the product has continued to meet my needs. As a member of their Inner Circle, we have the choice of recomending changes to the program. I have found many of the recomendations very helpful when doing my taxes. Although I did have an issue with the download installation this year, the program excels in every other area.

I have been using TurboTax software since way back in the 1980's when the company was known as Chipsoft. Every couple of years, I investigate other software but it never seems to stack up to what I want in terms of features and price. Furthermore, TurboTax support has ALWAYS been good. I have never had any problems with my TurboTax generated returns to the IRS or California (my state of filing). I am now a member of their "Inner Circle" which is a volunteer group of customers who give feedback on the product and make suggestions. The TurboTax people take this seriously and have included community recommended extra features. They have shown that they continue to want to make this a better product even though it is probably the best on the market for the price range.

As an Inner Circle Member, I have been using Turbo Tax Premier Edition for about 8 years now. I do organize my paperwork prior to sitting down to my computer which helps immensely. With Turbo's interview method I can go through my tax computations quickly, assured that my taxes are going to be completed in a manner that is going to be satisfactory to the IRS and obtain me the most benefits for satisfying my tax obligation. The interview questions help determine what edition of Turbo you should use and items that you should consider including in your return. The software is continually reminding you to consider certain methods to approach a subject and if it is not advantageous to you in to consider other approaches. I found the reviews and their checks very helpful and comforting after I had entered all my data. I have not had any problems with the IRS since using Turbo Tax and I like it that way. Sincerely - John DiGeronimo

Great product for the price! I have used Turbo-Tax Home and Business for many years and have found the product to be a very good value. It does the number crunching that would take a lot more time manually. I have some fairly complex issues to deal with, including partnerships and business entries, and for the most part it handles them just fine. I am a TurboTax Inner Circle Member, only because I really believe in the product and like to have some imput for new ideas. I would like to see more phone support, but I know this gets expensive, and has all but disappeared from most businesses today. Thanks Turbo-Tax. Keep up the good work.

My son's state tax return got bounced because a required attachment was not properly submitted. The form in questions was IL Schedule CR. When Turbo Tax printed the filing package the schedule had only 2 of 3 required pages. I know that now because I save a contemporaneous printed copy. When I get on today and check for forms in the return there is a mysterious form CR - pg 3 listed!!!! This is the page that did not print originally causing the return to be kicked out. This is for credit for taxes paid to another state so I'm not familiar with the form to know there should have been 3 pages.

I've used Turbotax for several years and this year I see an acceleration of the trend downward. I have to click through ads pushing unecessary upgrades, the "help" link goes to the corporate site where guess what--instead of the IRS form instructions I requested, instead I get another upsell ad. This "Visa gift card" e-file refund is preposterous--a scam if ever there was one. I guess but I resent paying for this crap. It works OK, with the exception of schedule K-1; publicly traded MLPs are commonlace and their easystep SW does NOT come close to helping me fill in form 8903. The ad at the top of the pages says this is the #1-rated tax software. Does that mean the others are worse?

I've used TT for five years, and didn't have a problem, until now: 1. Software bug kept me on a loop, asking for missing information that was already entered. 2. Customer Service is non-existent. They have an online community where other users can answer questions and post comments, but there is no much participation of the TT guys there. Do you know what is the worst part? I bought their audit service protection. So yeah, I ended up giving them more $$, just in case they messed up my filings. I reallly doubt I'll use them next year.

RIP-OFF SCAM! They totally ripped me off -- did not say I had to submit both my returns at the same time (though they charged me for both) and then I was unable to make any changes to my other return online, which was not yet finalized. Then in speaking to support and following their instructions I managed to lose all data from both returns. Despite this they refused to reimburse or credit me for the lost return. Apparently it is company policy! So, after using Quicktax (now Turbotax) for at least the last 5 years, I will not touch it again, nor will I recommend it to others as I had been doing in the past.

So easy and logical. Love Live Community. Sad to say that I kind of like doing my taxes each year. Love how my W-2 and investment documents are downloaded right into TurboTax so I don't have to type anything in. There's no reason to spend all that money going to some place like Block or even a CPA unless you have super complicated taxes.

I historically dread tax time, but am surprisingly pleased for the second year in a row. People say that filing your taxes is difficult, but I've found it incredibly easy with Turbo Tax. The software completely guides me through the process and asks about deductions that I didn't even know about. Not too sure how some other users got tripped up. TT carefully guides you through the entire process. Filing was smooth, quick, and easy. I'll definitely be a returning customer.

I went online to do my taxes via Turbo Tax and this year the website suggested I use the Premier version and I truly do not feel this higher priced version was necessary. The process was long and when I came to the wrap up I clicked through it thinking I was finalizing the accuracy of my return. I wanted my fee to be deducted from my return and did not SEE the tiny print and charge of $29.95 for this stupid and unnecessary charge. I have been trying to reach a human at University Bank in St. Louis and Turbo Tax w/o success. This $29.95 charge needs to be presented in a way to really bring attention to it. I will NEVER use Turbo Tax again.

I bought TurboTax the first year it came out and have used in continously since then. I personally use the business version, but tried the online version this year for my granddaughter's taxes (this is her first year having to file a tax return). She earned less than $8,000 for the year, has no deductions and only needed a 1040EZ. She lived in 2 states during the year, but never had any residence crossover and needed to file as a part-time resident in each state. The experience of filling out the information requested was easy, though time consuming (I think I could have done the paper version in 1/2 the time). However, I find that $27.95 per state charge plus a $29.95 charge to deduct the charges from the expected refund is exorbitant for a simple tax return that I can get done by any local tax preparer. Jackson-Hewitt and H&R block would charge me no more than $35 to do these taxes, which have w-2's only and no itemized deductions, dependents, or adjustments. For 2 states, eac... Read more

Be very careful using Turbo Tax formerly Quick Tax, it screwed me and I now have to have 10 years (the max allowed) re assessed. The problem is if you are buying back previous years of pensionable service and if you do not check a certain box, windows do not open that allow you to properly claim the amount even though it shows up right on your T4. The system does not allow the deduction and carry’s if forward which is not allowed by the Canada Revenue Agency. It also does not come up as an issue in their fancy “review/optimize” section. Who knows what else this software misses. The off-shore customer service is absolutely pathetic.

THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER HAD!!! I work in customer service and if I treated people like these guys do, I would be fired!! I have been trying to contact these people via phone, chat & email for more than a week. I work for a living and don't have time to sit on hold for more than an hour. I have been holding on chat for more than 2 hours. The 1st one, I waited 45 minutes, then was called away from my desk for less than 8 minutes. When I returned a rep had ended my session because I didn't answer her right away!! This is horrible, and we are penalized if we miss the filing cut off. What are we supposed to do?? DO NOT USE THIS SITE!!!!!! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE AND SAVE YOURSELF WORRY!

I've used Turbo Tax for years and perhaps it is just this year but if I buy the softwae when they send out their marketing spiel I pay full price, if I wait or purchase through other avenues there are discounted prices availalbe. You'd think that they would be able to track long term customers who have registered the software and treat them better.

Turbo Tax hosed A LOT of people this week with a malfunction in their software. Many returns that were e-filed to the IRS with the request of direct deposit were missing crucial banking information that would allow the IRS to make the deposit. The result? Lots of angry taxpayers now have to wait for a paper check from the IRS. Not only are we having to wait even longer for our refunds, we will now have to experience holds at our banks. Turbo Tax seems to consistently have problems with missing forms and software glitches when being used early in the year to file returns. Wouldn't it be great if we could all wait until April to file? Word to the wise: seek out other options.

TurboTax is OK as long as your software works. Used it for more than 10 years. Last year, however, I purchased at Walmart TurboTax Deluxe version and 1 year software replacement plan. The CD was defective and did not download in my computer, so I had to use other ways to file tax return, since it happened close to April 15. I wanted to return the CD, but store refused to do it since I opened package (how else I would find out that it does not work?). They would only exchange it for the same program, but I no longer needed 2009 return. So in January 2011 I tried to use my 1-year replacement plan and exchange software for 2010 TurboTax CD. Well, store refused to do it since replacement comes from manufacturer, and Intuit refused exchange since I bought it from the store and not from Intuit website. Guess I'll have to write down loss of $57.00 and stop dealing with Intuit.

Disclaimer - I now work at Intuit. That being said, I've used several tax software products throughout the years, starting with TaxAct, which I found worked perfectly fine while in college. I was pleased I could efile my taxes online at a very low price and that's all I cared about. After graduating from college, I began using TaxCut by H&R Block and this also worked great. Easy online efiling. The only thing that bothered me was the price gouging for state tax refunds. I checked out the Deluxe version one year and didn't end up itemizing any deductions so I could have stayed with the basic level of TaxCut. I paid the $30 for Deluxe, then found out H&R Block would not allow me to file my state return at the basic level, despite not itemizing any deductions on my federal return. I had to file it as a Deluxe. So I had to pay the $30 for the state return. I felt truly ripped off and didn't use TaxCut again. Years later, I began working for Intuit and used TurboTax for the first time. ... Read more

My husband and I have used so many different tax softwares that we could probably hold a class on what not to use. If there is a tax software out there we have probably tried it and still had to pay at the end of the year. It really sucks to pay extra out of your check all year long and then at the end of the year, still owe the government, ARRRGH! Oops, there goes my pirate! Ok, back to the story. We kept buying tax software, paying the government, then tried those high-priced work from home-gonna-save-you-money-ladies-in-pajamas, still owed money. Then one day, my adopted daughter told me about this software called Turbo Tax and how she saved money. We tried it, it was Great, we saved money on the State side, unfortunately, that first year, we still owed the Federal side, Uncle Sam is really Greedy, but we actually got money back, gosh, I fainted. Being able to reference prior year returns and import my statements is invaluable when it comes times to site down and complete my taxes. Turbo Tax sucks. I made about 8 attempts to file and each time the IRS rejected my Turbo Tax filing saying that my prior-year AGI was incorrect, even though I confirmed it twice with the IRS. I spent several hours on the phone with TT trying every approach possible (using zero for prior-year AGI, creating a dummy 2009 pin, etc.) only to have them finally say the problem was with one of their servers not being updated. Well, TT, when do you plan on updating your servers so your customers can file electronically. I asked support if someone would take ownership of my case but no one would. Support people were cordial and seemed to make the effort but forget about any commitment. These people can't even file electronically with the IRS - the only reason I tried TT was to file early so I could get on to financial aid apps for college. I wound up having to file paper. I could have done my taxes with a pen and calculator in about a tenth of the time I spent with these idiots.

FOR PEOPLE WHO PLAN TO FILE W/INVESTMENTS Importation from stock brokerage ABSOLUTELY SUCKS!!!!!!!!!! The only reason I tried the software was the idea that it would make filing my stockmarket transactions easier. NOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When it imports the data, it DOES NOT IMPORT ANYTHING BESIDES WHEN YOU SOLD ONE POSITION AND AT WHAT COST! I have to literally, go in, and delete most of my positions, because it does not distinguish between multiple purchases/sales, and does not include cost basis, and does not include wash sales. WTF is the point of this software? ALL OF THIS INFORMATION IS READILY DOWNLOADABLE FROM A CSV FILE FROM THE BROKERAGE FIRM! THIS IS ABSOLUTELY A FAILURE TO PROGRAM! I think it may be easier to file the old fashioned way, and am now considering it.

Here’s my experience with Turbo Tax this year. I click on a link at my bank’s web site for Turbo Tax. I select the ‘free” file online option. I select “file an extension” I fill out all the highly confidential info required for an extension (SS#, AGI for ‘08) when I’m done and want to send the extension, THEN TURBO TAX TELLS ME IT COST $10!!!!! I’m not objecting that it was apparently free last year and now isn’t. I’m not objecting that they charge $10. BUT THEY DON’T TELL YOU IT COSTS UNTIL YOU’RE READY TO SEND. I used to use Turbo Tax in the past. No way after this. What an incredibly bad way to treat people. Good-bye, TT.

I've used Turbo Tax in the past, and had a good experience. This year they changed it up, and it was so bad, that at the very end, just before I filed, I deleted the whole thing. Three days of taxes down the tube, and here's why.... I started with the basic package as I had in past years. As you go through your tax prep. they ask you questions that obligate you to pay extra fees. Example: Would you like to know.... Would you like to ask.... There is NO mention that if you take them up on their offer, it will be an extra charge. At the end, when I though it was going to cost $19.95, instead my bill to file was $93.00!!! Along the side of the screen, you can ask questions, and customers were going crazy asking, "What is goin on? I signed up for a basic file and am being charged____???" "Why am I being charged for an extra 'filing fee' of $29.99?" All the 'experts' would say is, " If you don't want to pay the extra fees you have to start your return completely over." I went to Cust. serv... Read more

I love Turbotax! I've been using it to file my federal and state returns for years now and it has always made the process of filing my taxes less complicated. The simple interview process walks you through each area of your return and identifies areas where you may qualify for credits and deductions. My favorite thing about it is the error check and audit risk features which allow me to make sure that my return is correct and not likely to trigger an audit. The free efile is great too because it allows you to get your refund much faster than if you were to send your return by mail and wait for a paper check. Great tax software, well worth the money!

I don't know what went wrong between last year and this year but man, that is some crappy website they're using. the pages died more than 20 times i had to keep reloading and reloading the pages just to progress and their free service is a lie. the IRS should be notified about these people. i was never charged 30 dollars for federal last year. i kept telling it to remove the state tax and let me handle it myself but it kept putting it on their anyway right before it was time to file. more than 30 dollars to file for state tax? are you kidding me? it told me i was getting 0 dollars from the state wich seemed ridiculous. i gave up after an hour and went straight over to H&R block and got it done in 10 minutes and they only charged 10 bucks for filing it with the state. I'm never using turbo tax again.

They are impossible to contact and their product has some issues. I have been waiting 3 days to e-file my completed taxes, problem is Turbo Tax has errors in their tables for CA SDI $ Amounts and maximums (of all things) and their system will not accept the amount, even though correct. After many futile attempts to efile, I went to their "community" help site and that is where I found out the issue, the moderator in a statement to the many comments said they are aware of the issue, but no updates since day one and no message to alert you on the actual Turbo Tax filing site. You have to go in and spend time to try to re- file before it bounces back over and over saying there is an error. This is after the site said "my return was 100% accurate guaranteed". They happily debited me for their fee before my taxes were sent and now nothing. Not world class service for sure.

I'd like to give it a -1 star but that isn't possible. I've used TurboTax for years now and this will probably be my last year to use it. TurboTax used to be really easy to buy, use, and file your tax return with. While it is still easy to use it's gets harder and harder each year to buy and file your tax return with it. Now you have to figure out if it's the online version or the desktop version. Why should there be a difference? Now here is a fun one. If you buy the desktop version online you don't get the online version even tho you bought it online. What you bought online was the desktop version but the online version is actually different. If you signed up for a online account it's possible that you might have more than one account. How can that be? If you use the same email account each time you still can have more than one account? And if you you do have more than one online account you can't merge them ever. You have to be very careful about what the fees associated with eac... Read more

The software is not bad, but I cant take the trickery with the e-file. It says the filing is only $19.00, but at the last minute it imposes a $29.99 charge. Turbox tax said it was a post charge and it will be refunded back, WRONG. After that, they didnt want to heard it, and didnt return my emails.
