Toyota Tacoma

Excellent Truck. I bought mine new in 1999 and it has been running like a champ ever since. The plan is to keep this thing till it dies which could very well be another 40 years since I only have 70K miles on it.

i am trying a 2000 tacoma out to buy hopefully. the reason why i swear off domestic trucks now is i bought a 94 chevy s10 3 years ago. it had 93000 on it. over three years ive had so many problems out of it and two that i cannot figure out now. ive replaced the wiper motor 3 times, the 4WD 3 times, transmission almost went out, the radio is shot, the ABS is gone, brakes are shot, oik leaks, oil pump thingy got a hole in it cause it fell and the 4WD rubbed on it and made that hole, had to have an entire tune up cause it died completely one day, the starter went out this month, the altenator went out twice, the radiator had a hole and had to be replaced, broken door handle, blowers wont work in cab and i think thats it. i cant stand my truck and thats why i want to switch to a tacoma. everyone ive talked to say that toyotas last longer and are good trong trucks. after what ive put into my s10 i will never buy domestic. i like the body style and the overall dependability. ive known ppl to... 1994 toyota pickup, 4cylinder, 5 speed manual. 160,000miles so far -amazing truck. tons of miles, reliable as hell and its life has not been the easiest. the only issues with them is that they rust out real bad, (which can be taken care of with certain precautions)and they are kind of bare bones. however, your a moron if you would sacrifice chintzy comfort over the sheer indestructibility and reliability of this truck. mine's been rolled once, gone through 8 deer, travelled on interstates and offroad, and been driven in the worst weather minnesota, wyoming, wisconsin and south dakota can dish out and has come through like a champ.

I love my Toyota. I have had a Tercel and two Tacoma Trucks. I had a 2001 Tacoma that ran great until it got totaled in an accident. It had over 100,000 miles on it and had very few problems. I now have a 2006 Tacoma and it runs great. I drive a lot and I know that when I get in my Truck I will have a reliable vehicle.

Terrible. Frame rusted out on my 2001. Do NOT buy a 1995-2004 Tacoma. Consider how Toyota is handling this problem and do not buy a Toyota. One of the worst carmakers in customer satisfaction.

A great truck with the reputation of Toyota's reliability. You pay for the name though, and thusly is a tad overpriced thanks to Toyota's option packages that force you to buy more equipment than you need. Another plus is that you can choose from a wide range of body configurations (bed length, cabs, etc.) and drivetrains. Overall, a great truck that should live up to the reputation of Toyota trucks of yore.

2000 Tacoma, 130,000 miles of which over 60,000 are hard off-road miles. Truck is amazing. 2005 and newer are pavement princesses. Am NOT interested in anything newer then a 2004.

Bought 2007 Tacoma, Dbl Cab, Auto, SR5 - Very good truck, fuel economy is awesome 11.5l/100km - HWY, 13.5l/100km - city. Very quiet, compare to my dad's F-150.

250K on an '88 4x4 before the head gasket gave way, .. never burned oil, previously, it still ran strong! Got the Tacoma and it's a performance machine! :)

best truck for the money. these are probably the best on gas, but the strongest point is that they are by far the most durable. probably good for at least 400,000 miles.

Best truck I ever owed,2004 Tacoma.Just dumped F-I50[2000]that was a working mans nightmare they need to change slogan from 'BUILT FORD TOUGH' to 'YOU BOUGHT A FORD.....TOUGH'.Trans failure at 40k,plug blew out of cylinder head at42k,idle air control valve at 50k,DPFEA at 57k,ABS MODULE AT 61K,three different sets of rotors and out of here at 69k.I pity the fool that buys that truck.My TACO showed me the difference in quality from day one and with double the workload of former truck[I now can drive outside of public transportation service area without fear of being stranded].DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE YOU BUY A TRUCK IT COULD COST YOU THOUSANDS.

I have a 94 bought with 90,000 on it it now has 115,000 running strong, only work it needed was a head gasket. I noticed that most of the negative comments attack the truck as not being 'domestic' well gm, for, and german owned dodge make lots of stuff in mexico. Who is building plants in the USA and who is closing them? Anyway these trucks are tuff as nails, sure the ride is not great, the inside is a bit crude, but it is a *truck* not some cushy cowboy cadilac (see F150) look at news footage of the 3rd world and what do you see 10 guys packed into the back of a old toyota going up some rocky road in the mountains. My manhood is just fine, and I don't need no stinking truck to augment it (see dodge diesel)

I love my 2003 xtracab automatic 4cyl. I live in Summit County, Colorado, work at a ski resort and spend a good deal of time in the mountains (my house is above 9,000 feet). Around here you drive a Toyota unless you're sweet for the tow-truck driver.

Best compact truck on the market! Beats the Ford Ranger and Chevy S10 (Colorado, too) hands down. If you want reliablity, don't buy a domestic brand truck, they are poorly slapped together and use cheap parts that do not last very long. Toyotas, by comparison, are built to exacting standards and have higher quality parts which last a very long time. Oh, and Toyota trucks are American made, that is unless California and Indiana are foreign countries. Many of the big 3 trucks are made in Mexico. Think about that before you blab out buy American.

I am a automobile technician and have an ase master certification. After extensive research I decided to buy a 00'Tacoma 4cyl short cab 4x4.I am very pleased with the truck.Research on specs. the Toyota has nearly as much HP or more than v6 domestic trucks in the same group.We see hardly any problems with these trucks in the shop that I work at. I must agree with some negative the interior is small (rec extended cab) and the body metal is thin and easy to ding. However powertrain and performance are unmatched.These trucks are off road monsters and are set up very nice stock with big tires and nice gears. I have yet to get stuck with mine and have had no trouble pulling out others.To sum it up I feel that the Tacoma is a great buy,nice looking,powerful,reliable,and a bang for the buck. Oh and die hard domestic drivers hate them and they will tell you they stink. I wonder why.

I have owned Chevy, one was good to me just the occasional tranny, seal, exhaust and brakes. My 2000 sierra was absolute garbage. I have already got surface rust forming underthe doors and the frame is even rusted through some spots. I had to replace u joints, drive shaft, complete brake system, hubs, motor for the passenger mirror, the tailgate drops periodically(one time dumping almost 2000 dollars of tools into traffic. Most recently my leaf spring snapped@ 120,000 km. I have aranged to buy a tacoma, I know that just the slower depreciation alone will be worth it, after all every one says toyotas are to expensive for what you get, but try dumping 35,000 into a chev before tax driving it for three years and selling it for 16,000. I'm not great with math but that alone should be reason enough to get into toyota. Recently bought my 4th Toyota p/u. This is the best one by far. I like the 4-cyl, 4wd and auto tran. In 29 years in Alaska I have yet to see a more reliable form of transportation. I always go for the extra cab but this is my first SR5. Excellent stereo and the 16-in P265 tires give a great ride.

When it came time for me to buy my first new vehicle, I chose Toyota because my ex-boyfriend's father had an ancient Toyota truck that he swore by. So I bought a 1999 Tacoma 4x4 extracab automatic and it's been wonderful! I have now put 108,000 miles on it, have been pretty hard on it by doing alot of 4x4 offroading (I still love to play in the mud!), and the only problem I have with it is that the horn sounds wussy. :) Great looking, great running truck!!!

Have a 2003 Doublecab V6, great truck. Zero problems so far. Noticed most of the low ratings on this site are jealous Ford/Chevy owners. I've owned both, never again.

Bought my '96 Tacoma 4x4, shortbed, 4-cyl, 5-spd new. Has 214,000+ trouble free miles. Have yet to replace starter, alternator, fuel pump, exhaust system, rear brake shoes, no valve adjustments, no fuel injector replacements, or even the clutch. Has tackled Elephant Hill in canyonlands of Utah more than once uneventful (rated 3.5). Totally stock. No leaks on any gasket anywhere on the truck. Can't say the same for any domestic vehicle ever owned. 10.8" min ground clearance with stock suspension. Shooting for another 214,000 and expect to get it. I do maintain it well; use Marvel Oil in both oil changes, and each time I fill tank, Valvoline MaxLife 5W30 all year for seal conditioner value, and limit rpm to max of 3,000. No need to turn it higher.Anyone wanting to go faster than a crawl over rock trails is just wanting to waste money on repairs. Underpowered with a flimsy body that rusts when you look at it cross-eyed. I find most Toyota drivers to be wimpy looking spindly boys with baseball caps, earrings, goatees and Vermont license plates (So one could infer many things from that.) who have little too much attitude while driving and are generally discourteous snits.

turn this baby down for 4runner. i test drove a 4 door tacoma. GOOD: rommy, looks..... BAD:... (price: the truck does not worth the price), (POWER: this thing cried like it is about to die when i barely press on the accelerator), feeling the road too much..... BOTTOM Line: unless we are rating on different vehicle... i have no idea why this truck get such high rating.

its funny when people put lifts on their "toys" (ha ha perfect name for those things) and cant keep it over 65 miles an hour in 5th gear !

I currently own a 1999 Toyota tacoma- with the TRD Blower. Truck runs great, and no problem at all with it.

TOYOTA RULES!!!!! They ARE American made (Fremont, CA) & will outlast, out perform &, when it comes to off-roading, out-wheel any full-size Big 3 on the trails right off the showroom floor. I've been driving & wheeling Toyota trucks since '84, so I think I can say this. Design & ability = Toyota. Get your money's worth.

I previously owned a '97 regular cab V-6 that I had zero problems with. I traded it for a 2000 extended cab for more room. I think I made a mistake. Already had to grease the U-joints (at less than 7,000 miles, all on-road), the tires/wheels shimmy (been to dealer 3x, still not fixed) and for almost $23,000 you would think that they could tighten the negative battery cable....at least the v-6 motor runs strong and gets decent mileage, too.

Interior feels cheap, not much room at all. Body material flimsy. Head gasket problems. New '01 model looks terrible. Should have stuck with the old design.

ok, but pricey

The best small truck money can buy. I owned a '91 Toyota pickup, 3.0 V-6 auto, Xtra cab, 4 x 2, bought used in '95, at the time it had 118,000 miles on it. In Dec of last year when that stupid b**ch from Tennesee hit me, with her peice of chit Chevy, it had 271,000 miles on it. Other than the usual oil changes, brake and tire changes, I had to do nothing else to it. Meanwhile most of my freinds who own Ford's or Dodge's or Chevy's, have had to replace tranny's, and other major parts. So here I am with $6500 in my poctet, and what do I do... I go and buy a '98 Dodge Dakota, as of May it only had 76,000 miles but has needed the following work done to it repair tranny, replace tranny, replace AC unit, replace rear rotors, replace front rotors and replace starter. Thank god most of this happened under warranty. After the tranny went for the third (wonder how many times befor I owned it???) time, I gave up, so I traded it in on a '95 Toyota 4 x 4, 4 cyl, manual, 174,000 miles and I've not... Read more

Too Small..... Too expensive.. Body is weak.... When it comes to buying a solid truck, you want to buy a domestic.... When it comes to cars, thats another story...

The engine, the ride, the warranty, the actual "quality" that has gone into building this truck is unseen. The brain washed knuckle dragging truck buying masses will eventually grow tired of replacing transmissions and going through their vehicles like old socks. "Noise Equals Power" is a domestic corner stone, but truth be known, a 245hp 315torque double over head cam sequential multi port engine is the half ton truck call of the future. "Come on you Ford tuff, like a rock GM heads (I won't mention Dodge, shock treatment isn't legal anymore) come over from the dark side" I have seen the future and it has four pistons on each brake caliper.

Best truck buyable. Engines are always reliable. Body looks great, and doesn't depreciate. Buy it if you want a real truck.

Over all it is very good. Engine has a "noticeable critical at 60mph" Poorer gas mileage and poorer torque than my 86 Toyota had. Reliability and cost of ownership are excellent. Both are 2wd 4 cyl 5spd.
