I read so many of the reviews, obviously written by persons who never sat in the car. We have two Prius, a 2001 and a 2005 both of which are wonderful. They have given us few problems and have been such a pleasure. To the gentleman that was 6'4' and 250 pounds and said the car was too small inside I say at least be fair and admit that the current Prius is relatively large on the interior and you probably have difficult fitting inside anything except the largest cars. The Prius is a significant improvement on the internal combustion engine with regard to gas consumption and environmental damage. Although I don't insist that everyone drive one, no one should put the car down. Some people actually realize we all have a part to play in our and our children's futures.

Hybrids are pretty great for now if you do have a long commute. I'm pretty annoyed that car companies seem to be using them as a way to stall the proliferation of hydrogen vehicles until Big Oil figures out how to monetize that, however. Additionally, I think it's kinda of nonsense how some people decide to trade in a reasonably fuel efficient car that's not terribly old for a shiny new prius when there isn't a significant savings in mpg involved over the life of the vehicle. Conspicuous consumption at its finest, I suppose, thanks to marketeers, but there are still overhead environmental costs associated with manufacturing and vehicle transport when you buy a new car of any kind, even if it is a hybrid.

I'm hopelessly in love with my Prius!  I've had it since 2005, and I'm almost evangelical about it.  I get 50+ mpg, it's a zippy, easy-to-drive car, and the hatchback fits a lot more than one might think.  I would buy another Prius in a heartbeat.

Right idea for environment but missed the target...expensive and not many incentives to own one.

This rig is way too early on technology for me to be horsing around with it.

I'm a little sensitive to the smugness factor, but this is a neat little car. It's super quiet to drive, and it just feels like you're getting great gas mileage (which you are). It's a gentle ride, and the fact that you're pushing buttons and moving levers to start the car makes it feel futuristic. I'm not dying to buy one any time soon, but it's fun to drive one with city carshare from time to time.

This is one slick car, if you don't own one, you should. Check out Yahoo autos web site, it crunches the numbers for you on the economics of owning a particular vehicle. The Prius actually costs less to own than many cars priced less initially. Yes, we do keep our cars more than 5 years. Our truck was 11 years old, the Sienna is 7 years old, still gets 23 on the highway loaded down. The Prius----48.5 avg.

I LOVE this car! I haven't felt like this about a car since my '69 Mustang in college. I love the design, the mileage, the electronics, the "greenness" and of course, since it's a Toyota, the dependability. I bought mine used and it did not cost me more than a comparable vehicle. My next new car will definitely be a Prius.

Great car. I have friends over 6'3" that said it was very comfortable and roomy even when driving ???  The car does as much as advertised. Handles great - good power, excellant mileage 45-60 mpg with a heavy foot even in the hills. Sub freezing will decrease the mileage because it uses the gas motor for heat. I don't know why Toyota didn't make the A/C a heat pump? Still worst mileage I ever got in sub zero was 43 mpg and even that was hills and hwy driving. The only place that is cramped is the trunk area but it will still accomodate a full size suitcase or golf clubs. The hatch is great plus the rear seats will lay flat so the entire back of the car can be converted to open space.

My wife and I own 2 Toyota Prius vehicles. They are excellent cars with lots of room and we average 55-60 mpg with aggressive driving. I haul my 18 foot sea kayak, mountain bike, and road bike on mine. They are very low maintenence and simple to operate, hard to steal, easy to keep clean, and exceptionally quiet. If you are 6'4" like the last guy, most cars are too small for you, so buy a van man. Or a motocycle if you want to be eco-concious.

So it get's great gas mileage, but what's that supposed to mean if I can barely squeeze myself into the thing? Now, granted I'm a big guy (6'4", 250 lbs.), but I'm definitely not a giant. Is it too much to ask for cars that will accommodate someone my size? I drove a Prius for a few miles one day, and I could never own one of these cars. No leg room whatsoever, both in length and width. If the shifter was any lower, it would be literally impossible to drive, as it sits about a quarter of an inch above my knee. And even with the steering wheel all the way up, it was still way too low. A little all around increase in the space for the driver wouldn't hurt the gas mileage that much, and would actually make this a practical car instead of just a novelty.

I've driven a friend's Prius and it handles well. It really does handle gas milage well. I'd love to have one but they're out of my price range.

I have had for two years and since stoneage08 who obviously does not own one had to put a 1 star I am entering a review to offset with a 5 star. The truth is - best reliabilty ever made in a vehicle. Look at the 2001 models still going strong at 200,000 miles +. Gas mileage is actually at 50 mpg or better. Power is very good. Fit and finish is as good as a Lexus. Even handles better in ice and snow than my old Jeep at 5 times the gas mileage. Great hwy crusier too.

Had it for 2 years and it's the best car I've ever owned! Really does get 55-60 miles to the gallon. It's understandable why Toyata is kicking American car manufacturers' butts. American car manufacturers and our government are the ones feeding our oil addiction. Only we consumers can stop them.

kingofmexico is clueless - this is the best car ever built and it is 100% japanese made with some US assembly. It is rated at "near zero" emmissions because it runs mostly on electric. It does kick in the gas for a little boost when needed but that is not that often. Plus the gas power is still ultra efficent when it does run. Power is great I average over 51 mpg on the hwy at 74 mph and that is driving in the hills of Appalachia. I also have a Lexus and build quailty is just as good but I rarely drive it anymore since I bought a Prius. I have many friends that are going on thier 3rd and 4th year with a Prius and have had no problems at all. It seems like anyone that criticizes this car does'nt actually own one.

I work for toyota and trust me when i say that this is the worst car the company has ever put out. yes it get good on gas but look at the big picture unless you just plan to lease it the car is not worth the big bucks you will be spending down the road. Oh and to all the environmentalists out there just think about this for a sec, yea it puts out less Hydrocarbons,Nitrogen oxides and Carbon monoxide but think of all the electromagnetic radiation that these hybrids put out your just tradeing one bad thing for another in my opinion hybrids are a faulse sence of securty there just as bad for the environment as a disel suv just in a difrent way

This is what I'd like for my next car. Cool design, top reliability ratings, and obscenely good gas mileage. Innovation at its best.

Excellent. I recommend this car to everyone. The Prius is a very fun car to drive, has excellent perk, terrific accleleration, and is quiet and is easy to drive. This car also gets exceptional gas mileage, so you fill up less.

Toyota just passed Chrysler, oops, DaimlerChrysler, in sales for the US. This is one of the many reasons why. When will our big three, or is it now big two, catch on? They've been throwing all their effort on the easy money, SUV's and pickups and lost the car market. Stupid.

I love my Prius! (Obviously, that's where the screenname comes from). Anyone who is used to driving a compact car but could afford a midsize should give the Prius some consideration.

An excellent choice for a compact. Its half gas, half electric. Sure, it won't win any races; but it does have enough power to get you around. Enviormentalists will love it. The Prius is much better than the Insight, it actually has a trunck and a back seat. But don't think you'll save any money when buying an electric- The Prius starts around $20k, deep in midsize sedan territory

The Japanese have again beat everyone to the market with good design and product...These vehicles will undergo several modifications, but this model is ready to go and is the first step by a major manufacturer to reduce fossil fuel consumption.
