Toyota Camry

I have been driving a 2011 Toyota Camry hybrid for the past month. It's a visually attractive car, and does get really good gas mileage, however the hybrid part is kind of funky. It's very quiet and I doesn't make a noise when it shuts off. Twice now I have pressed the button to shut it off, went to bed, and come down in the morning to hear it running! I don't believe it is the car from Knight Rider so I need to figure out what's going on.

I own an 06 Camry which has really been a good car overall. Resale value could be better since it is a Toyota, I just expected good resale and when I tried to trade it, well I saw how much it lost. But overall, a good reliable car. Only had two minor problems in four years and they were minor. If you like the way this car runs, you can't go wrong. I would look for a used one though, saved the money on the used I think is better. We also have an 08 Honda Accord. My family all agrees the Honda is a much better pick. We have had zero problems on the Honda, not even a lightbulb go out. Also, the Hondas have the best resale value hands-down, there must be a reason why. So to wrap this up, I can tell you the Camry is a great car. We've owned two over the years and both were very reliable and did the job. In fact we still have out '91 Camry that my daughter uses for college. But buying a new car in this class, I'd have to give it to Honda hands down. The Honda Accord is the better choice. ... We have owned Camrys for over 15 years, our latest being a 2007 model. They have been very reasonably priced, trouble-free and reliable cars. Our current Camry was subject to the accelerator recall, but we never had any problem with it before the recall. The Toyota dealers we have patronized have always been courteous, efficient and fair. Also, their technicians seem to know what they're doing. We will continue to take our Camry to the dealer for servicing. It is true that the Camry is a plain-vanilla, ho-hum car. But this is the way we like - reliable and no-nonsense. If you don't want to spend time thinking about or worrying about your car, then choose a Camry.

Overall Im let down over my 09 camry xle. It drives very smooth,engine is vey quiet,I should have gotten a 6 cylinder for sure Because on the expressways the engine surges and gears tend to shift loud and hard. Luckily I drive mainly on surface streets. The negatives are all the RECALLS I keep getting. and also the moonroof will not budge,and had to take it back and the dealer several times.

I got behind the wheel of my inlaws' Camry, and after adjusting the seat as low and as far back as I could, and after putting the steering wheel all the way up, it was still too small to drive comfortably. In a pinch I could drive it easier than my wife's Corolla, but these cars are still too small.

I've been driving my 1998 Toyota Camry for more than 10 years. No major problems yet. It was getting water inside, but that's because I never cleaned out the drains for the moon roof. I'll probably still be driving it for another 5 years.

Crap.  The 2007 to present generation is poorly built.  The interior quality is horrible!!!

UPDATE: The 2009 Camry Hybrid is unchanged from the 2007 model that I have. Here's a recent (8/08) favorable review of the 2009. ORIGINAL COMMENT: Love my 2007 Camry Hybrid. Usually get 36.5 mpg/combined city/highway. Has plenty of zip for me--the 4 cyl. gas engine combines with the electric motor to produce 187 hp instead of the usual 158 hp for the 4 cyl. alone. The seats and driving position are quite comfortable. Suspension system is great--smooth ride and hugs the corners better than any other car I've had. Stability control, traction control, and ABS are standard, as is a continuously variable transmission--took me a while to get used to not hearing a shift in gears when accelerating. Slight whine when the brakes are applied, which is the regenerative braking system charging the high-voltage battery. I've been driving a 2008 Camry LE with 5-speed automatic for about 9 months and have not had any major issues. The car has decent acceleration, all the standard features you'd expect for a $20,000 car (power everything, keyless entry, cruise control, CD player with MP3 hookup) and it rides more quietly than the other two cars I own, both of which are 2003 Hondas. The transmission sometimes won't shift as quickly as expected, and the interior is a little bland, but the car gets great gas mileage, especially on the highway. I highly recommend it for the dependable $20,000 sedan category.

Just purchased the 2008 camry hybrid,and am thrilled so far,I've had it a week and still have over half a tank of gas in the tank,i previously had  the 07 accord hybrid, before I wrecked it.and the first thing i noticed when driving the camry was the quite ride at high speeds,and very smooth accerleration,and it came whith tons more standand equipment such  auto climate control,than the accord,which was a great car as well,and if I was still able to drive it I would,but the camry is a step up from at least the 2007 accord I had   The new accord which was just redesigned this year(08) is much larger than the 07,and more refined but for the options on the camry xle fully loaded was actually cheaper than the new accord. and Im glad I did.

Used to have one. Very reliable car, no major problems. Abuse this thing, and it'll just ask for more. Would still have it if it wasn't for an accident it went through.

Definitely would buy one.They are a high quality made car,and owned a couple of them over a lifetime.They are moderately priced,and equipped well.The best thing you acn say about this vehicle and other models of Toyota is that they are quickly becoming one of a couple of automakers that pour money into our economy and our people unlike the "BIG THREE" automakers who closed plants locally to go to Mexico and Canada to take advantage of the cheap labor and leaving americans who supported them faithfully for years in the unemployment line

My 4cyl 2003 Camry LE is everything a car in its class should be. 60,000 miles and it is running as wonderfully as the day I drove it off the lot with 10 miles on it. Also, the 4cyl has more than enough get up and go!

This car is awesome! It is very reliable, quiet and quite comfortable. Even the base model still had power windows, lumbar cd with steering wheel controlls and cruise control, automatic lights. With other cars you have to start well below those features. It is certainly not meant to be raced but it is very respectful and comfortable. Not to mention great on gas! Im averaging 30 mpg for a full size car! Oh, plus it has pleanty of leg and head room.

I find this car to be boring and benign. But personal preferences aside, it is( the current model anyway) dollar for dollar the best car built.......IN AMERICA!?!?! Also, the powertrain upgrades in recent years, have given it a slightly more sporting flavor than is usually custom in the Camry.

Toyota, clearly the leader in the car industry with the most cars in the Top sold list in all genres. The Camry doesn't lose here either. With both Toyota and Honda racing to see who can be the most creative and plain at the same time, these car manufacturers are constantly looking for the middle of the road buyer. The buyer that makes up over 80% of the marketplace. The only thing these people are looking for is price, reliability, and safety. In the back of their minds might be looks, but pretty much that isn't the case. The Camry is a great car. Far better than it's competitor, the Honda Accord, in almost every way. The Camry is styled much better, has higher build quality, better reliability, and has a better feel of durabilty around it than a Honda does. The Camry also has a smoother ride, which translates into a luxurious feeling you simply cannot get in an Accord, no matter what trim level. The Camry also has the availability of many options to each of it's trim levels, unlike with the Honda where you have to go up to the next level to get a specific item (for example, sunroof and ABS are offered on EX only, whereas those items are standard or optional on all Camry trim levels). The sales charts prove this, as the Camry continues in first place, and the Accord is sliding far down. Enough said.

Best buy on the market in it's class and maybe any class dollar for product. Honda accord has no where near the interior room of the camary. Smooth ride, dependable and durable. How many times have you seen a camary (or any Toyota) on the back of a tow truck?

Best car ever. My mom had one for years. I want one that is '95 or before.

Two words - engine sludge

Ho-hum, yawn, just plain boring.

'96 Camry, 130K - Would be a good engine, if it had come with some kind of good rubber, seals. Leaks oil like sieve. Valve seals, multilple engine seals, hood rod seals. If its a seal, its failed. Have owned Nissan, Mazda, Subaru, never had this kind of problem. Sad to say, I'm done with Toyota. Forever. Back to Nissan.

I have a 2001 Camry and so far its amazing but it has some bad qualities: 1- Should have parking sensors 2- Should have a cruise control 3- Power Stearing is not as strong as an american car 4- Should come with atleast a 15 tires ( Standard ) 5- Body should be a bit solid Good Qualities: 1- Economical car it terms of fuel comsumption and spare parts 2- Powerful engine specialy the V6 3.0 LTRS 3- Powerful AC 4- Standard sound system is not bad 5- Clear and smooth dimensions to see 6- very comfortable seats 7- Amazing saftey features Therfore guys its strongly recomended for families who are targeting a combination of a luxary and an ecnomical car with an attarctive look

I have had my 1988 Toyota Camry for nearly 7 years. It has over 210K miles and has been absolutely flawless mechanically. It provides good gas mileage due to being a 4-cylinder. My only repairs are regular maintenance (tires, brakes and such...). I will continue to purchase Toyota products in the future. Sure, they are more expensive than their competitors, but you get what you pay for.

My old 1987 Camry is the best car I ever owned. Fast, reliable, with a full set of electric help such as electric windows, sun roof, door locks. The tempo mat is nice and the 5 gears manual box is quite nice. I gave away my former 1996 Pontiac Grand-am and switched for the Camry. I will never regret.

Well, I've owned a lots of cars down here in the UAE and to be frank i wasen't so proud to own them but when owning a reliable car, with an extremly working and perfect performance you should be really proud Coz you have a camry boy,, Mine is 2001 AT tarnsmission Full options .. its amazing and perfect so far but there are few comments -The Wheel is quite rough -Parking Sensors are not available -Tires Size should be bigger 16 to be exact. and guys you can't imagine the camry or toyota's in general is having a high resale value so its like investing and enjoying !!!

I have just learned that the V6 engine in my 1996 Camry has to be thoroughly overhauled to the tune of $4,000 because the engine is slugged. This translates to the oil system failed and allowed the engine to get all sludgy inside. This car has only 70,000 miles on it and now burns oil worse than a 56 Olds! That's bad valves to me. We bought this thing because of Toyota's rep as one of the most reliable cars on the market. What a crock.

Best car I ever owned. 390,000Km on 1992

Love my Camry 1988 237,757 miles currently replaced transmission at 225,000 1 alternator that has been it since I bought it 87,000 miles ago. P.S. I drive an average of 35,000 miles a year.

When I sold my camry it had over 222,000 miles on it! I purchased it with 130k miles already on it. Great car, it held up really well although I drove it heavily. Its not the 'perfect' car, but it has very responsive steering, good power, a decent amount of room and VERY reliable. It had a variety of problems when I sold it, but these issues where things that tend to deteriorate over time (such as engine seals, belts, etc.). How many cars can you think of WONT need to replace belts and seals at 222k miles? Exactly, a Toyota Camry. Great car!!!

A very reliable car with more power then we needed. It did very well in the mountains. but no matter where you drive its V6 is hungry for gasoline. But it is a great car. If you are looking for a very powerful and reliable car get a camry

BTW camrys are the most sought after car on the market.... the chop shop market that is.... these cars are stolen like no other especially the older ones ; my aut lost hers that way, and my step mom's got robbed. they have no security system, and they arn't the most exciting thing around. but when it comes to reliabilty, the only thing that beets it are the accord, civic, and or corolla... but hondas are overrated, and the corolla is just as blase as it's big brother.

2001 camry ,worst car i've ever had . seats very uncomfortable. steering and handling is terrible. steering wheel is too far away from you . Not as reliable as claimed, many problems. Take advice from someone who's been there, don't buy a camry, you won't like it.

I have a car (91 Camry), not a hobby. It's a great car for those who have a life and need to get to it. Those who believe that a life will somehow fall into their laps because of their vehicle are doomed to be disappointed by the Camry, as well as generally in life. It won't beat many cars off the line, but it handles well enough to be easily controlled at well above the speed limit on the highway (don't try this at home, kids ;-). The few minutes which I lose to more powerful cars initially I easily regain once up to speed, as the owners of more conspicuous cars slow down to avoid yet another speeding ticket. Their higher insurance rates and deplorable gas mileage make me smile while I zip past them. If you're a mechanic and like to spend time fixing your car, base your self worth on the attention that your car gets, have money to burn, or simply don't have anything better to spend your money on, then the Camry is not for you. Im changing my comment. I really do hate giving a Toyota a rating this low, but I think its right. Ive been reading report after report about the oil systems just completely malfunctioning and ruining the entire engine. This has also happened with the Sienna. Many of the problems have been between the years of 1996 and 2001. The problem has happened to both engines available, although the V6 has more reports. It should be noted that the V6 in the Camry is also in the Sienna.

I have a 1999 LE with 57k miles. Nothing fancy or exciting about this car, infact, it is rather boring. But it is the best car I have EVER owned. I average 30 mpg, it has never broken down and it has never been in for warranty work. While the lure of other "more exciting" cars is out there, this work horse is hard to beat.

I can't believe the morons on this site who still believe that building an "American" car is a process relegated to the Big Three automakers. In case you didn't know, almost all the import auto manufacturers have assembly plants and design centers located in North America. So it is utterly idiotic to denounce the off-shore automakers based on the fact that they're "not American" and that they take jobs away. They simply build BETTER cars. End of story. I have always owned "imports" and I will never ever waste a dime on a domestic car for patriotic reasons. A smart buyer purchases a car because it's good, not because of where it's made. Obnviously many people agree, otherwise the Camry and Accord wouldn't be trouncing the Taurus, Impala and Intrepid on the sales charts, while winning endless awards and accolades!

I bought one of these years ago because Consumer Reports rated them LEAST likely to need repairs. Well, somehow I got one of the rare lemons because it gave me trouble constantly, even to the point of breaking down on the road countless times. No matter how many mechanics I took it to, no one could figure out what was wrong, so it never got repaired. I finally started driving Hondas in 1993 and have been happy with the results.

Pillow car... that's what a camry is! Ever rode in a car feeling that you're seated in really, really soft pillows? That's the kind of ride you get from a camry. Other cars have only soft seats but not the ride, baby...not the ride.

We bought our 97 Camry based on experience with our 91 Camry (an excellent car), as well as Toyota's reputation for quality. We have been sorely dissapointed - valve seals failed at 70,000 resulting in blue smoke at startup, a common problem of many Toyota's of this vintage (they hardened the valve seals in 97 and won't assume full responsibility for this design failure). Timing belt replaced at a mere 36,000 miles and looks like it needs it again at 75,000 miles, hope tis isn't a pattern. My Toyota has been plagued by frontend rattles as well. We've also had transmission problems as well as electrical problems. Toyota made great cars in the early 90's, but something has gone terribly wrong, and they won't stand behind their product like they should.

For some reason Toyota seems to feel that quality/reliability and style/dynamic ecxitement are mutually exclusive qualities. And there are obviously many who share this view. Wintess yet another in a long line of well-built, reliable and entirely forgettable automotive appliances: the new Camry. Of course there is nothing really terribly wrong with this vehicle. Except the complete absence of a soul. It is as dull and uninspiring as a bar of soap - no doubt there's a class-action liability suit waiting for all the "drivers" who fall asleep while operating a Camry. There are many loyal Toyota fans who celebrate this very absence of any discernible personality as a virtue. I am not among them. An automotive sensory deprivation tank will never be my willing vehicle of choice. Face it - the Camry is nothing but a well-built Buick. Yawn. Somebody wake me when Toyota does something interesting.

I own a 2001 Toyota Camry LE, 4 cyl. I love the car very much. I like the comment by "liddlebopeep" about having an exciting lemon hot rod over a boring dependable car. The Camry will keep going and going and going. Wondered at first whether the 4 banger would have enough power. Emphatically yes, the 4 banger has plenty of zip! I am into environmental issues all the time and driving a car that was environmentally friendly was important too. We need to strive to insist that our government pushes laws to make sure that car manufacturers make fuel efficient vehicles! So yes, I am very happy with my Toyota Camry!
