Fri Aug 22 2008I have had 2 toshiba satellites. The first I still have on it's 3rd hardrive. The monitor is just about completely separated from the case, but it is still working. I bought another after I swore I would never again and it is doing ok. They dropped thier prices is why I did it. They must have had to. I have the warranties on both, but the first one had structural issues 2 days after the warranty ended. I must say the support on the piece of junk was very fast and efficient. I will look for a different laptop manufacturer next time.

Thu Apr 10 2008After 9 months, I'm finally happy with my Toshiba Satellite. Within the first month of purchase, I had to have my hard drive replaced, then three months later, had to have it replaced again! Not to mention that it was sold to me with Vista, but the computer's memory does not support Vista! I had to spend $200 to add 2 ghz of memory. I will be sending a very nasty letter to them but in the meantime, I'm rating them as awful!

Wed Oct 03 2007Satellite A80 after 8 months mother board died, it was repaired under warranty. Its now 8 months since the repair and the mother board has died again. Toshiba will not replace it. Never buy Toshiba again!

Sat May 12 2007We all chipped in to send our nephew to college with a Toshiba Satellite S45, it was an expense $1.3k++ with great sale and rebates. After 6 months or so it started to behave badly and causing lots of trouble and sleepless night to our nephew who was computer savvy and thought he could repair it by reinstalling software etc. It turns out the motherboard was becoming gradually unstable, freezing applications more and more frequently until the laptop became unusable for any work. It was too late for any sort of warranty by then. This laptop was very good for a few months, it became a burden and a waste of time very quickly. The rating is ZERO star. Our nephew switched school, used a loan to switch to a Mac book. Toshiba did not help. Never bother with Toshiba notebooks any longer, they use to last forever -- NOT anymore!

Tue Mar 20 2007Bought a Satellite A105-S4054 for a good price of $799 in August of 06 and haven't had a problem yet. It does come with way to much pre-installed garbage, but what big brand computer doesn't now. Good for what i am using it for, college work, internet, music and dvds. Good quality sound for a laptop, good bright LCD screen. Battery life is sufficent for my uses, but I'm sure some find it a bit short. Overall a good product so far, especially at the price i got mine at.

Sat Mar 10 2007I have a Satellite A100-VA1. Great little laptop. Only 2 problems with it, battery pack is only 6 cell, so runtime is extremely limited. And the other problem is the left click button is very tight to push, it doesn't feel like it clicks. However, this could be something to do with my exact laptop, and it hasn't gotten any worse. It doesn't bother me.Overall, great little laptop. Vista Home Basic is a bit too much for it though, but that could be just all the OEM software loaded on it. A clean install of Home Premium worked amazingly, and had AERO Glass enabled by default.

Mon Jan 08 2007I have TOSHIBA Satellite M45 and I am pleased with it. However, as former older pc owner. I was used to removing the keypads and cleaning the board myself. Is it even possible on laptops? Do you need special tools? I hate to think I need a shop visit just to get crumbs out from the keys. Yes, I do have air in a can!

Fri Dec 22 2006Mine began repeatedly shutting down with no warning recently. It shuts down when running programs like Norton or when surfing the web. Frustrating!!!!!

Thu Dec 14 2006Can someone tell me if the Toshibia M-25 notebook has to use any specific kind of DVDs?

Tue Nov 28 2006Had one for a year now with minimal issues. My son's machine, and he is a light user so it really hasn't been tested. Satellite M45-S169. I did have to do a recovery on the hardrive after repeated attempts failed to get it back on the internet. Some sort of problem with the router failing to recognize the machine. I may be wrong, but I think that was an issue with the modem or software for the modem. But for that, I'd give it a five. Good sized machine and nice display. Seems physically very robust and solid.

Tue Nov 28 2006Was an awesomely capable computer while it ran, but ours failed about 2 months after we bought it. We sent it back to Toshiba for repairs and they returned it to us unrepaired, saying we had damaged the electrical plug-in (on the computer) and that wasn't covered by warranty. We took it to a local repair shop, and they diagnosed a complete motherboard failure. They attempted to contact Toshiba to get a cost on replacement parts and spent 4 hours on hold without ever having their call answered. Bottom line? We now have a $2k doorstop. We are in litigation with Toshiba over this. I wouldn't buy a Toshiba for my worst enemy!

Fri Dec 23 2005No more Satellites!! I owned two. First one had a screen failure after 2 years. The second one had a modem failure within 6 months and a motherboard (!) failure after two and one-half years. Crap for quality control. I wouldn't accept another Satellite as a gift.

Sat May 07 2005I had a Satellite series and it worked great. So I bought a new one. Within a few months the modem went bad. When I took it to a local Toshiba authorized repair center, they said they had seen a lot of the new Toshiba Satellites with this problem. I had UPS it to Toshiba for repair. They have had it for a month now and their excuse is that they don't have the parts in stock. When I asked for it back so that I could use the computer until the parts came in, I was told that was not an option and they had to keep it. When I asked if they had a loaner program, again they said no. Since I use my laptop to earn a living this is a real hardship. To my knowledge, my computer is still sitting on their workbench earning nobody anything at all. P.S. The local repair shop said I should plan on the power port on this notebook computer to go bad at some point. It's a great machine, but Toshiba's repair service is far from user friendly. Make sure you have a backup computer.

Fri Jul 30 2004Great! I have a Toshiba M30 Series with a centrino processor, 60GHz HD. So far no problems with the hardware acting up. It runs games such as FIFA 04, rally 04, UT 04 like butter. I can have a bunch of applications in the background and it doesn't feel like it. Toshiba laptops definitely top 10!

Sun Mar 07 2004I own a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4300 and have had it for 4 years. It has been VERY reliable, never had a problem. It can handle the rough rugged abuse. My next computer will be a Toshiba.

Fri Feb 13 2004I have the P25-S477, I love it. Great clear picture and very reliable. I've had it for almost 7 months and have had NO problems at all, not even minor.

Sat Jan 10 2004Almost no problems. Bit awkward formatting though.

Sat Oct 25 2003Wireless mouse and keyboard are a great plus in many situations, and performance seems to be quite good on all applications I have run during some six months of use. Unit is heavy and bulky, not convenient for carrying via airplane. The biggest drawback is the short battery life; there are longer lives in other brands. Have had little customer service contact to date, but what I have had was time consuming and not heavily customer-friendly for relatively minor items. It is also rather pricey, and as with almost all makers today the accompanying written support is inadequate. Overall it performs well on functions for office work.

Fri Feb 07 2003I've got a 2400-S201, and I've been relatively happy with it. Support, to be warned, is useless--at least with WinXP--because all they'll do is tell you to system restore and, if that doesn't work, reformat. Do a bit of Googling instead, you'll get better results. But on the whole, the machine itself is reliable, and has a pretty good price-to-performance ratio.

Sat Dec 07 2002PLEASE READ! TOSHIBA CLASS ACTION LAWUIT http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,103700,00 .asp I purchased a Satellite 5005-S504 last December and have faced multiple problems with the DVD/CDR, it turns off automatically, my battery only lasts me 20-30 minutes....a good reference is the Toshiba Yahoo Group. The laptop is aesthetically appealing and the specs look good on paper, but the thing gets sooo hot! Read the article.

Tue Nov 12 2002Great desktop replacement - a bit heavy for travel. No problems after 6 months - we own two 1400-s151's, plenty of power. Works well in both dialup and dsl mode. Great value - look for free throwins, like printers.

Mon Aug 26 2002I have the 1905. Very reliable for anything you want to do. Built-in speakers suck, but what do you expect from a laptop. Cooling system makes the computer shut down once in a while when I play a complicated game, but it's not too big of a problem. The computer is definately at the top of it's class.

Tue Mar 05 2002Very good machine. Almost no problems (I have it since 5 months). Do not hesitate to buy one, believe me!!!

Mon Jan 15 2001Lot like the IBM 500. The keyboard is very nice and easy to use. A bit of a problem with the button mouse though.

Mon Jan 15 2001It is cheap, but the performance is pretty good. Service is worldwide.

Fri Jan 12 2001Top of the line at this moment. These are the best. Very reliable, never crashes. Very fast. Hope it does not get outdated soon.
by yusufdd2
Fri Jan 12 2001Even though mine has 475 Megs, it still feels a little slow. I think performance wise, its adequate, but I could have spent less on a computer with those same features.

Fri Dec 01 2000Toshiba makes pretty good laptops. They are quite dependable and durable. And more importantly not too pricy. I've had Toshiba for 3 years now, and it is not giving me any problems. Great for writing papers and other daily uses. Because it is a laptop, it is not recommended for watching DVD's! If you the computer is for entertainment purposes, get a desktop.

Thu Nov 30 2000The system I use is an old P133, but it is still hanging in there. I've had none of the problems that my friends hae had with their systems (crashes, reboots, file loss, etc.). I would definitely buy another one.

Mon Nov 27 2000The best bang for the buck. The weight is average at about 6-8 lbs., but the bonus comes from the price for what you get. Plus the stylish magnesium alloy case is always a bonus.
by ac3939dc
Wed Nov 08 2000Z PCMCIA slots are a plus. Crisp LCD. The beep when the screen is closed is horrible. The laptop cannot be carried around as an MP3 player due to this beep. This machine has poor 3D capabilities.
by m3nidad
Wed Nov 08 2000I have a Satellite myself and I don't think the performance is all that great. I think all models should have pentiums because AMDs don't make it perform to its potential. However, its size and weight is very good. Another thing that is slow is its boot up time.
by omni6692om
Tue Nov 07 2000Good laptop. Little bit expensive but it will run all your applications. Customer service is poor. They will transfer you from place to place and most of their numbers are not toll-free. It is expensive to upgrade or buy accessories for this laptop. Try HP.
by playerjay118
Wed Nov 01 2000The mouse is terrible. It is very hard to control. It is also very heavy.
by iloco9b3
Wed Nov 01 2000Satellite series notebooks perform well if you don't abuse it. Mine has suffered major bumps-n-brusies but still works. It was a good buy.

Tue Oct 31 2000Excellent notebooks. Very economical. They are bulky.
by germy21
Tue Oct 31 2000It is reliable and ideal in size. I don't like the mouse.
by jquach
Mon Oct 30 2000Average, which is good for a student. It performs okay at the task I need. Very affordable.
by sinceresfc
Tue Oct 24 2000For price, these computers are great. Great features, great price. Satellite has the integrated heat sink/fan cooling system. This means a longer lifetime on the motherboards of laptops.
by jleonard
Mon Oct 23 2000My Toshiba is very reliable. I have dropped it several times, and it keeps on working. It has plenty of memory and speed. The main thing I enjoy about it is its durability.
by slayer34
Wed Oct 11 2000TFT screens are horrible. Reasonably priced. Average sized at 2 inches thick.
by arizvi
Fri Oct 06 2000The Satellite is poorly designed, as demonstrated with Toshiba's recent (and last) class action lawsuit. Most Satellites are made with small hard-drives which are virtually impossible to replace.
by low_8785om
Wed Jul 19 2000The weight of this laptop is good compared to its competitors. It has a long battery life. It has a high resolution screen similar to the Dell Inspiron series. It is expensive compared to the Sony Vaio series. I wish Toshiba would use AMD microprocessors instead of Intel.
by paul8495om
Wed Jul 12 2000I like my computer. It was not too expensive. I don't like that the screen freezes on me sometimes. It's annoying. It's good because it has internet access, and has a lot of RAM.
by bija8432om
Tue Jul 11 2000The best in terms of value of the product and the features available. It has good multimedia capability and very good support available.
by mney7869om
Mon Jun 26 2000The hardware on this laptop is fickle. When I got mine, I couldn't make the A: drive work. It finally did after three months. It's kind of slow and heavy, and not very portable. The lack of memory and installing new software is a pain. The programs didn't mesh well.

Mon Jun 26 2000This notebook computer is good as far as power and function, but it's hard to find parts. I needed a simple power cable and I had to order it on the internet. Also, the mouse on mine is one of those little nubs. It's very difficult to use, and doesn't always work properly.
