Mon Feb 09 2015Before starting guitar lessons with Tom Hess I was watching YouTube videos trying to find a way to build my speed and I was going nowhere. After the first few lessons, I can see that I am progressing. So that is good. He definitely has helped me understand some new approaches to fixing mistakes in my technique and this has translated well nto smoother and cleaner playing at high speeds. He's given me some cool materials on non-speed topics as well like improvising and getting better at playing solos. I've enjoyed them too.

Wed Dec 31 2014I started lessons with tom hess because I wanted to learn how to play solos like EVH, Yngwie, Rhodes, etc etc. I never really thought it was possible to play as good as these guys but Tom showed me a ton of stuff I never knew about playing faster and cleaner. I can now keep up with my favorite players (I can now play several different solos without making mistakes).... plus I've gained tons of confidence in my overall speed and technique. Still some progress to make before I get to their level of course.. but I'm on the way.

Wed Dec 10 2014Tom Hess uses a very organized approach for guitar lessonsthat is very different from the random approach of other teachers I’ve taken lessons from. For example, I told him I wanted to learn how to play much faster and more clean, then over a period of several months he based my lessons on this... often showing me new perspectives for developing speed that I never thought of. In the end, I’ve reach my speed goals and have since determined new goals (which we are working on together right now).

Tue Dec 02 2014The best part about taking guitar lessons with Tom Hess is how he takes “getting results” so seriously. Anytime I am struggling to improve in my playing we talk by e-mail or I send him a recording and he gives me constructive criticism to solve the problem. My lead guitar technique has improved tons since we’ve been working with each other.

Tue Dec 02 2014Tom Hess is without a doubt the best guitar teacher you can get for becoming a faster and more technical guitarist! My sole purpose for taking lessons with him was to be able to play solos, and now not only can I play solos by some of my favorite players, but my technique and improvising skills have gone through the roof! Truly a top notch teacher for any serious guitarists out there.

Tue Dec 02 2014Tom Hess is one of the most serious and dedicated guitar instructors I’ve come across. The results I’ve got in my playing since starting lessons with him have been nothing short of amazing – I’ve gone from being a slow guitarist to a true shredder in just a matter of a year or so. He’s very good at keeping in contact and pinpointing problems in your playing to keep you progressing.

Wed Nov 19 2014Some guitar teachers are good players but have no idea how to teach – This is NOT including Tom Hess. Every lesson I get from Tom is extremely helpful and always shows me a new, interesting way to get better as a guitarist.

Sun Oct 26 2014I've been making more progress to become a better lead guitarist than ever while working with Tom Hess. I'm surprised by how he's been able to help me improve my technical playing skills in such a small amount of time. I've always been a rhythm guitar player, but now I see a whole new world in terms of soloing and improvising. All thanks to Tom and his guidance!

Sun Oct 12 2014I’ve been taking lessons for a couple years now and the progress I’ve made since we first started is unbelievable! I can play much faster than before (over 1000 beats per minute for most techniques) and I don’t struggle with playing clean either. Tom Hess really takes you down a path toward achieving your goals and coaches you the whole way. Greatest investment I ever made!

Sun Oct 12 2014I’ve never taken guitar lessons with anyone close to Tom Hess’s teaching level. He’s very good at identifying and fixing my problem areas. It’s only been a month and I’ve already started to sweep pick pretty advanced arpeggios when I always failed at it before. I always feel excited when I get a new lesson because I know I’m going to learn something new and make progress.

Sun Oct 05 2014I've been pleasantly surprised by Tom Hess' guitar lessons. I'm learning tons of new things I never knew that make my playing more efficient, and reaching the goals I set when we first began taking lessons. Tom designs a clear-cut plan for you to accomplish the things you set out for on guitar and doesn't let up! I've never taken lessons as good as this. Tom is very good at keeping you on track toward the things that are most important to your playing so that you don't waste time on stuff that doesn't matter. Anyone looking to get better on guitar should work with him.

Sun Sep 28 2014Taking online guitar lessons with Tom Hess has been the best thing I ever did for my guitar playing. He has helped me find direction and stay focused so that I make consistent improvement. Tom's lessons don't just cover general ideas, they are very specifically based on your goals (and he guides you throughout the learning process so that you never aren't sure what you should be doing). Im a much better guitarist now after spending only a few months taking lessons than I was in the 10 years I spent trying to get better on my own.

Mon Sep 22 2014Taking guitar lessons with Tom Hess has been a breath of fresh air because finally I am making a lot of progress in my playing. I've taken lessons with several guitar teachers before, but none of them had the expertise Tom has. Additionally, I've never met someone as committed to getting big results for me - I work with a strategy he created to fit my own needs and reach my goals. This has helped me advance very quickly and feel confident that I am always moving forward. My favorite area to work on in my playing is soloing. I used to just play a bunch of cool licks and try to make them into a solo, but after working with Tom, he got me to actually create entire solos on my own (plus improvise freely whenever I want). Very awesome stuff! Without a doubt, Tom Hess's guitar lessons are the best I've ever had. I recommend you to check them out if you want to get better really fast.

Sun Sep 21 2014I've been making progress much faster with Tom Hess's Correspondence Guitar Lessons than with anything else I ever did before. Before I began working with Tom, I was doing things by myself and it was really frustrating. I believed that what I was doing was right, but once I started guitar lessons with Tom, I instantly saw that these things were wrong. For example, how I was using way too much motion in my picking technique that was slowing down my playing or tensing up my muscles while picking (keeping me from playing faster) or not keeping my bends in tune - just to name a few. Then he helped me apply the new concepts he was teaching me very quickly.. Within only a couple of weeks my playing had reached a new level. I've become such a better musician by working with Tom! I wouldn't be the great player I am today without his dedication to helping me.

Sun Sep 14 2014I've made a ton more progress taking guitar lessons with Tom Hess than I made in the previous 10 years of working on my own and with other teachers. I've always been into playing rock/metal, so naturally I chose to take lessons with Tom Hess (being a long time Rhapsody fan). At first, I thought I would just try a few lessons to see how it went... but after only the first one I knew I had found someone who could really help me do all the things I wanted to on guitar. One of the things I wanted to learn most was how to sweep pick really fast and clean. For most guitar teachers, this would be a tall order, but from the very first time I took lessons with Tom he began showing me exactly what I needed to know. He helped me with any questions I had through email and sent me killer videos as well as written lessons. In the end, I've become great with sweep picking and have learned a lot more about playing lead guitar and being a better musician. Unlike most guitar teachers, Tom Hess has al... Read more
