Sun May 18 2008Agree, The whole armies of the world could never do more damage to America than the internal reactionary elements who are bound to bring her down. We have a serious cancer here, and I sincerely hope we will not have to get radiation treatment or chemotherapy, IYKWIMAITYD.

Tue Jul 19 2005Once the capital of the world was Rome now it is the United States which in this page of history is the pinnacle of a world government infrastructure they are like many empires before them rich in culture, numerically superior in all departments of defence, and boast some of the most learnt men in the world,to help further advance their position in world leadership however, where there is greatness there must be a sacrificial temperament in order to achieve these goals which as a result causes political unrest;alas'assassinations, poverty, invasion of other countries without plausible cause,etc...may attribute to this claim(you are your own worst enemy)as an outsider looking in I can only marvel at the height of her(U.S.A)power yet dread the retribution that will befall her if this power is not tamed and manipulated with care what lies in the future is many of her sons and daughters will feel the full weight of its collapse....I hope I get to visit Nashville TN. someday I enjoy the music!

Fri Mar 18 2005Afraid so. Hubris writ large on world history, and in writing too large to read unless you are thousands of miles away.

Mon Feb 14 2005Americans are not their own worst enemy. Im sure as in ANY country there are many who dissagree with the norm and stand up for what they see is right dispite what their government might tell them. It is a sad fact though that some Americans have been taught to fear what they dont understand or had information distorted or hidden from them all together. It is human nature and survival instinct to want safety for those we love. We just have to learn to extend our family beyond our back yard or suburb or country for that matter. And in a way it is true that our own fears and hatred may destroy us from the inside. This applies to anyone narrow minded enough to think they have enemies, not just Americans. If we'd only ask why others hate or fear us and vise versa and not always think of ourselves we may realise its all for nothing.

Wed Sep 29 2004Seeing the disagreements marked for the most well thought arguments such as Poison Tongue's, shows me some people don't want to hear the truth or do anything about it...that makes them their own worst enemies.

Sun Sep 26 2004In some respects we are our worst enemies because we don't see beneath the surface and are naive or lazy enough to believe the b.s. churned out by Bush and company.

Sat Sep 25 2004Strangely enough, we are our own best friend and our own worst enemy.

Fri Sep 24 2004Yup. Americans can't live with the obvious fact that the war in Iraq is a rich man's war and a complete sham. Question the gov't and you are called unpatriotic. Thus Americans are willing to send more soldiers to die because they lack the conviction to question. On occasion, we are our own worst enemy.

Fri Sep 24 2004It's an imperfect system of government, no question. But, ordinarily it doesn't change, it evolves. PoisonTongue, we have a process for electing our leaders, the same as most democratic republics, and I don't think we're going to change that because some Canadian thinks our process is less than perfect or because he thinks we should have signed the Kyoto Treaty. The primary responsibility of our elected leaders is to protect and preserve the US Constitution and, by extension, US citizens. Now and then, we get someone who is unclear on that concept. Sometimes we punish him (Nixon) sometimes we don't (Clinton) but when you are the only military superpower, many people and factions are going to hate you and some will even attack you, as futile as that may seem. How silly we were to have forgotten (for 8 years)what a dangerous world we live in and to have portrayed such weakness to our enemies around the world. It makes today's struggles so much more difficult.

Fri Sep 24 2004We don't want to rule the world at all. We have the best spot on the planet already. If we wanted to rule it we could though. You are describing the arab muslim world here not the US. Americans are helping the world more than trying to rule it. We're always sending our resources to help the poor and needy in other countries because their stupid, wicked egomaniac rulers, don't care about their own people.

Thu Sep 23 2004America, you are your own greatest enemy. You have a poor habit of putting your most disgusting, diseased foot forward. Why not put greater emphasis on your charitable deads? Why do you let giant corperations and idiots run your country? Why didn't you sign the Kyoto treaty? You have created your own enemies through the people who you let represent your country to the rest of the world. It is not entirely your fault, you don't exactly have much choice in leaders, but hey look at Canada, we may have Paul Martin as the big Primo Minister, but we could have chosen Steven Harper. America, you should demand more choices in who runs for your leader. Find the people who would be your greatest assets an make them your leaders, create more parties the two major parties can not possibly speak for all of you. You are the world leaders in charitable works and donations, so why do you not elect someone who encompasses this compassion. Why does money play such an important role to your government le... Tue Sep 21 2004Why does Australia have no enemies? Because they keep to themselves and stay out of the business of other countries. So, America is its own worst enemy, because, in general, we are power-hungry egomaniacs with an agenda to rule the world. If we weren't this way, we'd probably have no problems.
