The concept is pretty good, but like others I question the cartoony look of the logos. I can see it being something that people new to the site would use more than the withered crones like myself, and anything that generates more traffic is a benefit (now that we can screen the fucking morons out of our "river")

I played around with the new home page for a couple minutes yesterday, and I guess I'd say I'm ambivalent. I can see how it would help new reviewers who weren't used to the site by altering the river to show reviews from selected broad categories they might be interested in. That being said, for me personally (and so probably other regulars as well) it's not that useful. The categories are too broad for me. Why click on on sports and get baseball and soccer reviews in my feed when all I really care about is basketball, or music when all I really care about is country when I can add those specific things as keywords to modify my feed if I want? Of course it doesn't make much difference, as I'm automatically logged in when I go to rateitall.com, so I don't see this page unless I logout intentionally. So basically I see it as something that could be useful for new or potential reviewers, but too simplistic for those who are already familiar with the site. If it brings a few new reviewe... I wasn't joking about the Microsoft BOB comment. You treat adults like kids and they'll hit the road quicker than you can say "I hate puppies" Microsoft proved this conclusively. Note to self: Magellan has an unnatural affection for puppies. As for the art, from what I understand Lena did the work. Nice job. My negative review should take nothing away from the hard work you put in on the site and the fine work you did. As someone else has stated, replace the cartoons with pictures and it will enhance the page. There may be copyright infringement issues with this, though. Still not sure if I like the base idea, but that's a personal preference. You asked for opinions and I gave you one. Frankly you should focus on the search engine. To put it mildly, it blows. I don't know if it's the way the DB is set up or the programmed sql code. As a former DBA, it could be one or the other, or both. Delay the site enhancements and focus on this and the site will be much better for it. I consider ... Read more

It's what I use in place of the (as far as I'm aware) now defunct 'Recent Reviews' page. It would be nice to see 'Music' as a link in the top bar though...

I hate to throw a wet blanket on a new idea... but "cute" doesn't quite cut it. If I happened to be surfing the net and this was my first visit to the RIA home page... I hate to say it, but I'd keep surfing without a second thought. The icons don't work for me... they're kindergarten... they're Sesame Street... they're Mr. Roger's on a product craze. Where's the sophistication? Where's the lure? You don't have to answer... but it begs the question... Who is your target audience? It seems incongruous to offer adult topics of discussion via child-like iconography. I have no doubt that advertisers would willing offer classy images of their products (and pay you handsomely for it) if you reached up just a little higher.
