The Impeachment of Bill Clinton

It starts with a piece of candy... Or ass in this case. We can't have presidents braking laws and not being held accountable. Its sets a bad precedence.

Since they spent the money to impeach the SOB, they could have at least bothered to remove him from office.

Hardly the highwater mark in the history of the nation but arguably the logical conclusion to the game of 'Gottcha' that started with the attempt to impeach Nixon. The legitimate business of the nation's law makers was put on hold so that the details of a presidential blow job could be examined in depth, in fact to a far greater degree of detail than any blow job in history. That was what mattered to the American people in the late 1990's.

Oh come now (or don't, it makes a mess), this is going to be looked upon be future generations as THE turning point in presidential matters of this era...

Politicians have been horn dogs since day one.Europeans must have pissed themselves laughing at the prudery of Americans.While running around while married may be wrong,it's petty compared to robbing taxpayers of a fortune to crucify one lousy adulterer,even if he is the president.Reckless spending,anyone ?

A largely inconsequential event.

Hey anyone with half a brain knows that the whole Monica thing was staged by a party or parties trying to get rid of the most successful Democratic President! The scandal was planed from the get go; the dress, the women etc! The most amazing thing is that he was impeached for perjury, but it is on record that; Clinton left office with the highest end-of-office approval rating of any U.S. president since World War II! Now I don't agree with his sex scandal or him committing perjury! But as Presidents go he did a phenomenal job with the economic state of this country! Now I know Regan started the ball rolling, but Clinton on his own admission said that he tweaked and played with the economics of Reagan’s plain! It turned the country around, Big time!

Political power play. Clinton was a moron, true, but his actions only ruined a cigar, his relationship with that harpy wife of his, and a blue dress. Other presidents, such as Nixon and Dubya, lied about things which led to the deaths of thousands of US servicemen and untold thousands of Vietnamese and Iraqis. It amazes me how little historical perspective so many people have.

No big deal! It looks even smaller after all these years. Would not survive the historical importance test.

It amazes me that President Clinton can commit perjury and all he got was a slap on the wrist. He in effect made it lawful to lie on the witness stand. If I were to commit perjury on the stand I could say I was doing exactly what Clinton did. He set a bad example, being the Chief law enforcement official. It's not like we did not know he liked women, with Hillary out there trying to stave off all the bimbo eruptions.

It was so damn entertaining. . .it was a lot of fun for the media and us PR types. . .and historically it will become more and more unimportant. . .

In comparison to what Dubya is doing, has done, and inevitably will do, it's a sand flea on the tail of an elephant.

No one will remember anything about this 20 years from now. As a president I think Clinton could have gone down as one of the best-he's no Washington or Lincoln but I'd say maybe top ten. Because he couldn't keep his fly zipped and he lied to the grand jury he moves down about 10 notches. I agree with the rest of you when you say he made the U.S. the laughing stock of the world. If these people would just come clean and admit to their wrong doing from the beginning people would respect them a lot more.

Very unimportant in every way. Bill Clinton was one of the greatest leaders this country ever had, and so many people turned their backs on him after he did so many great things for this country. Why anyone would want to do a job that is so unappreciated is beyond me. Ungrateful is an understatement...

No, it only served to make the US the laughingstock of the rest of the world.

This event will definitely not have a lasting effect on history.

I'm in total agreement with irishgit and zuchinibut. As embarrassing as it was for the country and how disgusting it was looking back to when Bill Clinton promised us that he did not have sexual relations with that woman, it is seemingly unimportant when compared to everything else listed here.

This event could not be any less important to the 20th century. For one, it came near the end of the century, and would not have had as much time to effect the century. And two, who did this affect? It gave comedians plenty of material for a couple years, but the impeachment vote didn't even get rid of him. This was a non event in the grand scheme of things.

Arrogant, incompetent, greedy, oblivious to the concept of customer service, and completely void of integrity. Go to your small hometown bank or credit union. Steer clear of this vile institution.
