Explain World Trade Center 7 collapsing hours after the initial attacks into it's own footprint after not even being hit by a plane, only some debris. Explain how the two towers collapsed due to fire and melting steel and how this has never happened before or since. Explain how, of all of the hundreds of cameras at the Pentagon, not one was able to capture an image of the plane hitting the Pentagon. Explain how the plane in Pennsylvania produced virtually no debris upon impact, only a rather small hole in the ground and how witnesses heard a massive explosion and saw an unmarked plane leaving area. Explain how NORAD was not able to scramble jets to intercept the second plane after the first plane hit the North Tower. These and about 1000+ other unanswered questions deserve an answer but none seem to be forthcoming.

I heard about this and looked up the theory, and as with most the details varied everything to missiles following the planes in, to delta squad planting bombs inside, from Osama being ordered to do it, to the government jumping on an oppurtunity. Then looked at the evidence debunking everything, some of which I had already debunked. Absoloute ludicrous from start to end, it never fails to amaze me what people will believe. Look it up, both sides if you can`t explain it yourself.

I will admit, I think the government has their hand in a lot of things that most Americans probably don't even know about. But this is one of the lamest things I've ever heard.

This 'theory' is a red herring designed to distract from the fact that the Bush administration failed to prevent 9/11 and then cynically used the tragedy to promote it's plan to invade and occupy Iraq (a country that had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11)..

Yes, after just nine months in office the person you claim is so stupid was the mastermind behind the greatest international coverup in history. Luckily he was able to convince the previous administration and members of the opposing party to express beliefs that fit in with his plan up to five years before he was even in office, not to mention forcing terrorists who had attacked American targets before to do it just one more time.

I really don't believe that they staged it. I do, however believe that they had foreknowledge of the event, but they just didn't have a "pinpoint" time of when it was going to happen, or even where.

As Mr. Ripley said, you will "belive it or not". Actually it is more correct to say that groups within the government were responsible.

This says more about the national psychology than the attacks.  Whenever something really terrible happens, people search for off-the-wall explanations, and typically pick *what they hate most* from which to build their explanation.  Just as some nut jobs deny the Holocaust, because they already hated Jews, in the case of 9/11 the conspiracy nutters already hated the Bush administration, and found a crazy theory to pin on it.  This conspiracy comes mainly from the left, just as the Clinton body-count tin-foil-hat-nutters come from the right. Remember that Occam's Razor is your friend.  Since we already know we have Islamists, terrorists, and airplanes, you don't need to invent extra entities such as explosives, CIA agents, and secret missiles.

This happened to us because of hubris. Despite all the warnings, we didn't believe that the Mohammedans had the knowhow to pull this off. Well they did. Now that we got wind of it, I think it will be much harder to pull this stunt off again.

I'll preface this by saying I'm not convinced that the government orchestrated the attack. That said, the Popular Mechanics article doesn't do a very good job of debunking the theories. I had the opportunity to watch a couple editors from Popular Mechanics appear on "Democracy Now" to debate a couple college students who had made a video about 9-11. Although one of the two students was clearly quite agitated and didn't do a good job in the debate, the two men from Popular Mechanics were less than convincing. They repeatedly used the term "conspiracy theory" in answering most of the questions, thereby utilizing a classic diversion technique in the debate which I was quite surprised to hear two editors of a, by all accounts reputable magazine, invoke. The debate is available for free on the "Democracy Now" website.

Give me a break. There is a larger body of evidence that this government and adminstration couldn't orchestrate a conspiracy to cover up the kind of donuts they eat in the Cabinet meetings, let alone something of this magnitude.

It's an interesting theory. The people who believe it are either gullible or angry but, man, do they ever believe. The idea that our government could orchestrate a cohesive foreign policy for a single day is laughable. These people believe that this could be carried out, nobody snitching to the press, not a single person with any conscience (which is slightly more believable), the jets all struck "A" target and the right people are killed and the planners survive. Right.

The 911 attacks happened because of negligence by the very people we elected to defend and protect us. I have found no eveidence to say the US Government staged the attacks on the other hand the conspiracist have had a field day with many unanswered questions about the 911 attacks such as why did World Trade Center Building 7 collaspe seven hours after the collaspe of the WTC 1&2. It was not struck by any aircraft and had only two small fires on the 5th and 7th floor which is backed up by video proof. Most disturbing is the way the building collasped in a demolition fashion which can be viewed on the internet. Also the 911 commission did not even bother to investigate why a 47 story 570' building collasped in the worst attack on American soil. FEMA however did investigate and said that WTC 7 collasped because of the two small fires on floors 5&7 when in fact no skyscraper in the history of the planet had ever collasped because of fire. The 911 commission also failed to investigate and ... Read more

That's just sick. The government did get caught with it's pants down because of intelligence failures but in no way were they responsible for the attacks.

What proof exists of such a claim? 9/11 happened as a result of gross negligence on the part of our federal government. Simply put, they weren't putting much attention to intelligence suggesting that there was a plan afoot to attack our infrastructure. The problem was never with our intelligence agencies, which always understood the domestic threat international terrorism posed. The problem was more with NSA and other executive branch agencies whom at the time weren't putting as much attention on anti-terrorism issues as they should have been doing. I believe it was totally preventable; as such plots had been foiled before, most notably a plan to attack LA International Airport in 1999. It was just a failure of the system to deter an attack.

So much has been said about this as a new industry is born. But few theorists have bothered to read the single book put out by Popular Mechanics to debunk the theories.
