Groan! I did something shitty around the house, and to make amends with Martha, I went to this movie with her. I thought it might be a sequel to Purple Rain that came out the year before, and I figured I could sit through a little more Prince. You can imagine my astonishment when onto the screen marches Oprah Winfrey, Danny Glover, and the cherry on top of the putrid sundae? Whoopi Goldberg!More feel good Spielberg crap. I had to chew Tums for a month in order to keep down any food.

The historic points were too overshadowed by the racism.

Color Purple is one of my favorite movies. I'd owned it on video and decided to purchase the DVD. I didn't know that it would have a side "A" and "B" but that's fine. I've always loved this movie and have gained even more appreciation for it over the years.

This movie has to be one of my all-time favorites! The cast is superb and the story is so compelling. I love all the depth and richness of it! It will make you laugh, cry, and scratch your head. Each time I see it, I see something I missed on a previous viewing! A MUST see!!!

The video got here really fast. I haven't watched it yet but it was in new packaging so I'm assuming it is new with no defects.

Underrated 80's movie- terrific acting. A powerful drama. The fact that it won zero Oscars is still one of the all-time embarrassments of the Academy.

Touching movie but hard for me to watch b/c of the abuse/violence. I have a hard time watching these kinds of movies.

Excellent movie. Everyone did a great job, Oprah, Danny Glover and Whoopi Goldberg. Sad movie, but I enjoyed it. It makes me happy that we are not living in the early 1900's...

Great movie !!! Even I shed a tear or two in this movie, especially the scene early on when the sisters are separated as young girls, not to see each other again for many years.

This is probably the most moving aspiring and most touching, riveting, movie I have ever seen! It's the life of a poor young black woman (Whoopi Goldberg) who's sold off into a marridge where her own kids and husband hate her, but soon this woman makes her own living and makes her own revenge and prosperity. I reccomend this movie to everyone.

An outstanding movie, just as good as the book, with great performances and beautiful cinematography. Steven Speilberg should have won an oscar for this movie, because it is one of his best. Thumbs up on the casting!

Steven Spielberg should have at least been nominated for an Oscar for this movie. This movie is disturbing, but important in understanding our history in a realistic way.

One of the most unforgettable and beautiful films of the last generation. Vivid portrayals all around, and writing that brings the pain, poignancy and joy straight to your heart.

A movie that I could watch over and over and over. I loved Oprah in this. Whoopi was excellent as was Danny Glover. A real life picture from the african american view in the early 1900's.

A really beautiful movie. Whoopi Goldberg was spectacular. That first time she smiled, when Shugg Avery was there, it made me cry. She was so raw, so real. I think that is possible the best acting I've ever seen. She did a wonderful job in very few words.

Whoopi was really good in this movie. I love the way she made her eyes sparkle with joy (even though she was just acting) when she smiled. She's one of the best. Looks like such a nice woman and friend. I'd love to meet her.

This movie was so sad. I must have seen it at least ten times and I still cry. The music is good. I don't know if I would have been able to survive in that time period as a woman. Whoopi did a fabulous job. This movie makes me hate men. It brings out a lot of emotions. Very powerful.

It was a really good movie. Whoopi Goldberg, Oprah Winfrey and Danny Glover acted excellent in this movie. Danny Glover abused Whoopi and treated her badly, took her sister away- but at the end reunited them back together.

It may be a movie with a mostly African-American cast, but the women in this story exist in all races and face the same choices. Whoopi Goldberg shows pain and strength. As she grows, so does the viewer. Oprah Winfrey seems strong, but shows defeat very well. The strength and importance of sisterhood is a message women need to learn and remember, but men need to see this too. You'll enjoy the film, but the book by Alice Walker is even better.

I saw the Color Purple a long time ago and didn't really get it until I was older. It is actually a really moving movie. There are a lot of sub stories. It definately touches on women topics more than mens. The themes are domestic abuse, friendship, family values and many other issues. I love Oprah though.
