I love me some steak and potatoes but I think people have forgotten it by now. I can't imagine how this is healthy.

Another diet for damn fools. I'm waiting for the Scurvy diet or the Rickets diet. I'm sure they'll show up soon.

I think it was overrated at one time, but I don't hear much about the Adkins Diet anymore. It seems like every few months there's something new to take the place of the "old".

All of the folks who are strickly following it will need to take a look at their livers in about 20 years.

In the long run, this diet is very unhealthy. Eating all of those high fat foods with little complex carbs clogs your arteries and gives you an one-way ticket to heart disease.

As with most fad diets, the Atkins diets has seemed to lose much of it's power (thank God). This diet is extremly unhealthy and really only gives false hopes to those who go on it. I could understand it if you wanted to go on this diet to lose a certain amount of weight in a certain amount of time but otherwise, look for something that will last a life time.

I don't know why people rely on these diets. They simply don't work. You have to exercise on a routine schedule if you wanna drop those pounds.

This diet goes to show whatever bait the media lays on its hook, the american people bite at it like mad! The Atkins diet is obviously a step in the right direction because it allows individuals to become more conscious as to what they are eating but this diet is far from suitable. What most people aren't aware of is fat is burned in the furnace of carbohydrates, if you cut out your carb intake considerably, most of the weight you will lose is water weight which has been shown by the majority of people on the diet. I'm gonna stop because I could go on forever about the flaws of this diet.

Kind of burnt out, as these types of gimmicks usually do. No matter how you try to go around it, there's no better way of losing weight than a moderate and balanced diet and exercise.

It's ATKINS, as in Robert Atkins. This is a wonderful diet for those it suits, especially the heavy eaters who need to lose 100 lbs or more. It's a regimen they can stick with. Contrary to what most people think, blood lipids, blood sugar and blood pressure often improve, sometimes dramatically, and people who have suffered heartburn for years throw away their antacids and purple pills. Dr. Atkins did not invent the diet - in the 1960's he refined the anti diabetes diet of Frederick Banting, MD (1891-1941,) and Dr. Atkins did not die of a heart attack shortly after - he died from a fall on an icy street outside his New York office in 2003. He did suffer from heart disease for which he took many of the neutraceuticals described in his book Dr. Atkins Vita-Nutrient Solutions, a unique contribution to a little known field and a great read, just like his diet book.

I don't think eating as much greasy bacon as you want could possibly qualify as a healthy diet.

Dr. Atkins died soon after he came up with this diet from heart problems, whoa what great results :P

While most of us need to cut carbs, we do not need to eliminate a complete group of foods. I think it's pretty obvious that this can be dangerous in the long run. You need carbs for energy. The key is to eat enough to give you energy and to USE that energy up with exercise and other activity. That way you stay toned as well as satisfied with the content of your meals.

It's been proven that the Atkins diet reduces the intake of energy and can even affect the brain. Even more, many healthy vegetables and fruits which provide vitamins and minerals are not allowed--or at least warned against--in this diet. Seems to be fading, thank goodness.

General rule of thumb: Avoid anything pimped by that Idiot Jared from Subway. The day when we got overwhelmed by every food company offering Atkins-Friendly Subs, Pizza, Pasta, Beer, and Candy was the day when Atkins jumped the shark. While there is some scientific sense to how Atkins can make you lose weight, asking people to eat like Velociraptors for the rest of their life is unrealistic. We are now seeing the Atkins crash as low-carb food companies left and right go out of business, and the majority of people still are fat-asses. Eat sensibly, have an exercise routine and you will not need any gimmick diet.

It's a great diet and works well, it's Atkins though not Adkins. I lost 30 pounds and was able to keep it off for over a year, better than any other diet I have ever been on.

GoneAway is right again. This diet works fine if you want to only eat meat, salad, sugar-free desserts, and fried pork rinds for the rest of your life. ME, I need me some bread puddin'. You can basically eat whatever you want if you increase the amount of exercise to burn your claoric intake.

I think that diets in general are overated. My view on staying slim is excersise. Take it from me, as I weigh 120 pounds. Eat whatever you want, but you need to excersise.

Pretty overrated in that people tout it as some sort of miracle. The fact is that is does work. However, don't go on it if you have any type of heart trouble or biochemical imbalance. Prepare to be constipated for at least two weeks until you enter phase 2 and are actually allowed some fiber. The reason this diet fails is because people don't follow it correctly or they realise that it takes a lot of work. Don't fall for these stupid Lo-Carb marketing ploys, either. The point is to have as few carbs as necessary for the induction phase. There are no such things as safe levels of carbs. Any carbs at all, any sugars, will interfere with the process. These are a marketing scam and are counter-productive. The diet does work, but like anything you have to be dedicated.

Ever notice that people on the diet have no energy due to lack of carbs? UPDATE: points to StanUzbeck for pointing out that most of these carb freaks aren't even on the real plan.

All diets are overrated. If your ass is fat, eat less- run, and play basketball until you drop. Do this 3-4 times a week and the pounds will fly off.

. . . if I see Atkins-Friendly at another restaurant, I'm going to scream. I love the version of the low-carb sandwich that many fast-food joints do now: they take off the bread and leave you with the meat and lettuce. I'm sorry, but without some type of bread, isn't it no longer considered a sandwich? What's next, is the Italian Restaurant down the street going to be Low-Carb, too? Is it going to be just meatballs and tomato sauce? (If that has already happened somewhere, don't tell me, I don't think I wanna know). Sorry, you're not going to lose weight by eating bacon, quit trying! For the best description of this, you gotta hear Budweiser's Real Men of Genius commercial for the Over-the-top Carb Counter; . . . because the only thing better than meat and potatoes is meat . . . and meat.

I don't see the logic in this diet. To me, the best way to lose weight is to watch your calorie intake and to exercise.

My common sense and my general education tell me that a healthy diet consists of food from all the food groups eaten in moderation and combined with moderate exercise appropriate to one's age. This diet is another in a long line of fads. It appeals to people who just don't know the meaning of healthy discipline.

For one, it has been proven to be unhealthy over long periods. Two, if people would eat less and get off the couch more they wouldn't need Adkins!
