Sat Sep 27 2008I started using this my senior year of high school and it was amazing...! Let me tell you! I remember talking to one of my best friends senior year and telling them about my acne problem. They didn't believe me, i told them I was on a pill and that normally my acne was horrible without it. To be honest it worked wonders and made graduation so much easier because I could hold my head up in confidence. BUT I took this medicine every night. All the sudden I was getting horrible horrible pains when I ate. I couldnt eat anymore. I lost nearly 10 pounds in a week which dropped me to 110. The doctor immediatley took me off the pill and put me on nexium. Apparently one of the pills got stuck somewhere in me and caused an ulcer! My face stayed clear for awhile after I was off the pill but after a couple months started to become severe again! I went back to the doctor and I got back on tetracycline again. I have been on it for about 3 weeks now, I have already seen improvement and am super excit... Read more

Mon Jun 30 2008I've been using oxytetracycline for 2 months and can see a massive difference in my skin, i've got another 2 months left to finish my prescription and make sure it's completely gone and hopefully there'll be no need for another batch. You need to make sure you take it on an empty stomach so it can be absorbed properly though and i've learn to avoid milk since it makes me feel sick and can also stop absorption.

Mon Jan 14 2008I've been on retin a for over a yr now, & erythromycin. Both worked great at 1st [6months], but then the acne started coming back & my derm prescribed dianette. Been on that for 2 months ish n it seems to have had no effect whatsoever- I'm worried that all the drugs ive taken [had anova 1 b4 erythromycin] have developed some sort of resistance/immunity. Want to switch erythromycin to tetra but not sure its a good idea? Ne1 taken dianette with tetra or had this sorta resistance??

Wed Dec 19 2007I've been taking tetracycline capsules for about a month and already I've seen a significant improvement in my acne. Since I started taking them I have had no new spots forming or areas of acne developing and the existing acne has faded in colour and has also become a lot smoother in texture than before. Prior to taking this medication I tried Retin-A cream for 2 months but that had very limited success in regards to reducing my acne and had major drawbacks in that it made my skin very red, sensitive, dry and flakey for the entire 2 months. Tetracycline has done 10 times as much for my skin in half the time. The only negative point I could find in this is that it frequently causes me mild stomach upsets and rumbling for about an hour after taking. The capsules also happen to have a 'chicken' type of smell and makes your breath smell of this for a while. However these little problems should prove insignificant to anyone who has suffered from acne for years and wants a solution, ... Read more

Tue Dec 04 2007i'm not a fan of ingesting things to make my face look nice. this stuff was OK. it helped keep the cysts to a lesser amount, but i still got them. i ended up just not taking these when i started using benzaclin, cuz that stuff actually cleared up EVERYTHING on my face (for a while). i recommend DUAC topical gel, as its the only product i've had no reaction to and has worked the ENTIRE time!!!

Tue Nov 07 2006I don't think that it's healthy to go on any antibiotic for a long period of time. I went on this when I was much younger and it never did anything. I found much better results from topical treatments and watching my diet.

Mon Jun 19 2006I got on tetracycline when i was a senior in highschool. I used it for about 6 months and it worked pretty well. I then stopped the medication and broke out horribly. Tried going back to Tetracycline but it didn't seem to have any effect anymore. It was good while it lasted though

Sat Jun 10 2006This worked well for preventing monthly premenstrual breakouts. It stopped working well after awhile, but this is true for any antibiotic one bacteria develops a resistance. For the time it did work, it worked very well

Sat Jul 03 2004I'm in my first month of a two month prescription of Tetracycline to treat painful diabetes-related cysts that I developed in my underarm and and some other areas of my body. I can say that it is working well to clear up the condition, though I have never been on an antibiotic for so long, and it's a drag to be on this stuff in the middle of summer when I really want to be in the sun and at the beach.

Tue Jun 22 2004did nothing, i took it for a year. sometimes i wonder if the allergies i know have to many antibiotics came from long term use of this, plus the other antibiotics i was given over a 3 year period.

Sun Jun 13 2004I was on tetracycline when I was a teenager, when I used to get huge painful cysts all over my face and back. It worked great for clearing up my cysts, but I am now in my early twenties and still get alot of pimples on my face (but not my body). I preferred the tetracycline to topical medication because my face is so sensitive. It was the only thing that cleared up my bad acne cysts, now I am just looking for something that will clear up my pimples :)

Sun May 16 2004I have been on Tetracycline for six months. My skin is healthy, clear and my teeth are not white! I saw results within the second month. I stopped taking it unless I have a bad breakout.

Fri Nov 14 2003This stuff worked great for me with no side effects. One in the morning with water 2 hours before lunch and one at night. I had very severe acne on my face, and within 3 weeks of taking this it dissapated. I continued taking it and using an anti-bacterial cream for about 6 months and my face cleared up completely. I stopped taking it and never had another breakout since.

Thu Sep 25 2003I used Tertracycline when I was a teenager and it was a miracle pill for me. I also used it in combination with Azelex (cream) and I noticed a 100% recovery from my acne. My skin was practicly flawless! However, now that Im in my twenties my acne is back with a vengence and Tetracycline no longer controls it like it used to. It was hard for me to measure success with it because Tetra only treats pustule like acne or deep cysts. I now have closed comedone acne which Tetra isn't made to effect. Also Tertraclyline is a killer if you have any acid indegestion! DO NOT take this medicine right before bed if you have any heart burn problems. I stopped taking this medicine about two months ago cause it either caused or help attribute to terrible heart burn. This is a great medicine however if you are careful to use it properly AND consistantly for three months straight. Patience my dears, patience.

Thu Jul 31 2003After my acne got better with tetracycline after about 2 monthes. However, after about 3 monthes my skin went back to the way it always was. Take in care what you use.

Fri Apr 04 2003I had mild cystic acne (kind of like hard bumps under the skin) and once I had been using tetracycline for a month or two, I started noticing changes in my skin. I'm still on the medication, and from time to time get a few small blemishes, but overall, the stuff really works.

Sat Mar 08 2003My acne was at its worst when i finally went to the dermatologist last year and got put on Tetracycline. After a few weeks of using it, along with topical Differin Gel, my skin started getting better and clearer. I loved Tetracycline and it totally helped my skin out for the summer that i took it. I was on it for months with absolutely no complications or adverse side effects. I woke up one day, though, feeling a sort of intense heartburn/sorethroat/cold/allergy. The only thing i could think of that caused it was the Tetracycline, so i stopped taking it for a little while and the sickness went away. But i tried to get back on the program and got sick from it again. I blame it on my dermatologist. I'd never seen her before when i first went in there and got my prescription. She barely even looked at my face. And she didn't tell me how long i was supposed to be on Tetracycline. I found out only recently that i shouldn't have been taking it for such a long time. So that must h... Read more

Sun Feb 02 2003Worked extremely well for acne on my back, chest, and shoulders. Facial acne appears to have reduced after 2 months, but I still get new whiteheads, smaller then before, but still noticable and they sometimes leave scars. If you go on this weigh the risk, it can have some really adverse side-effects. Be sure you brush and use floride, I have yet to see any darkening of my teeth, but a lot of people complain about that side effect.

Sat Oct 19 2002Tetracycline did nothing for me! I have mild acne I guess, although to me it feels a lot worse! Well I was on this for about 6 months and my acne stayed the same! Also its not good to take it for a long period of time because you can get sick from it...which unfortunetly happened to me. Maybe its not for everyone but I thought that it sucked at clearing up acne.

Sat Jul 13 2002Was prescribed Tetracycline when I was a teenager. I didn't like it. Benzoyl Peroxide products helped more than anything.

Wed Jul 03 2002I took Oxytetracycline for many years (around 7 years) and like others, I found it worked well on the acne but caused indigestion since it must be taken on a an empty stomach. I found if it is not taken correctly (ie everyday at the same time and on an empty stomach) my acne would strike back within a couple of days. I also found that taking this drug within a couple of hours of going to bed caused stomach pain during the night and eventually I had to stop taking this drug due to stomach problems caused by the long term use. I found the best and most effective times to take it was at 09:30 and 16:00. I'm now trying Isotretinoil - see http://www.acne.homestead.com for my user diary.

Thu Jun 13 2002Took this over 5 years ago, don't remember details except that it didn't work. which is why i've tried 5+ new products in the years since. I have also heard it yellows/stains teeth, which is another reason I went off it. What's worse than having zits?? Having zits AND yellow teeth!

Tue Feb 12 2002Not a great alternative but it can help with some cysts.

Sat Sep 22 2001I used this for a month and a half and I had to discontinue it b/c I experienced muscle weakness and dizzines. This either works well or does not work at all. If you are given it you should use it for atleast 2 months to see results.

Sat May 12 2001Effective, but be sure not to take it WHILE YOU ARE PREGNANT.

Fri Jan 12 2001I personally haven't used Tetracycline but I know a lot about the medication. It is really powerful stuff. It is a cycle of 3 months (I think) with very explicit instructions. Your face starts to dry out and peel (my roomate from college used this and her face totally peeled off). It is harsh on your stomach too. After she put in her time on the medication though, her face was so clear and looked great.

Fri Jan 12 2001Tetracycline is effective in preventing acne..however it doesn't do anything for scarring from previous acne (I am not sure that anything does). Unfortunately, you have to take it on an empty stomach and you can't eat for a couple hours after taking it..the bad part of this is, it can cause dizziness and an upset stomach and having to take it on an empty stomach doesn't help. It definitely decreases the number of break-outs easily (without having to follow a lenghty skin care program of cleansers and moisturizers that rarely work).
